Kenyon Martin retires

Postby Kevin on Fri Jul 03, 2015 6:24 pm

Veteran forward Kenyon Martin is hanging up his sneakers and retiring from the NBA, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reports. “It’s been a great 15 years,” Martin told Spears. “Thanks to all the fans that supported me over the years. But a time does come when you have to walk away, and the time is now for me. I’m ready for the next chapter of my life. I would like to thank the Nets, Nuggets, Clippers, Knicks and Bucks for the opportunity to play the game that I love. It’s been real. Thanks for the love.”

He had a solid career but never lived up to that number 1 pick selection imo.

I enjoyed watching him play for the knicks but he was often injured and you could clearly see he didn't have much left in the tank.

I wonder what his next move will be.

That fifteen years has gone by really quickly, it feels.

As far as number one picks go, he's certainly more Joe Smith than LeBron James; no doubt about that. But he had a solid career, and when you look back at that 2000 Draft, there's not a whole lot of players you'd take ahead of him. Michael Redd has the strongest case, and his career kind of fizzled due to injuries.

True, they always said at that time that the 2000 draft class was really really weak

So much potential, only realised in video games. Darius Miles, Stromile Swift, Marcus Fizer, DerMarr Johnson...Martin, Redd, and Jamal Crawford would be the standouts, along with Mike Miller and Hedo Turkoglu to a lesser extent. Joel Przybilla, Desmond Mason, Quentin Richardson, DeShawn Stevenson, Eddie House, Eduardo Najera and Brian Cardinal had fairly long careers, filling roles here and there.

Kenyon Martin was amazing.

When he signed with Denver Nuggets, he couldn't give the performance at Nuggets as he did at Nets.

I don't know the background of his signing with Nuggets, but why leaving a successful team?

The Nets traded him to the Nuggets.
