2015 Scoring Race

Postby Andrew on Mon Apr 06, 2015 9:18 am

James Harden and Russell Westbrook are currently battling it out for this year's scoring crown. Both are listed at a league leading 27.5 ppg, though James Harden is technically ahead by a very slim margin (27.68 ppg to 27.66 ppg). Westbrook just scored 40 points (as well as racking up another triple double), but Harden scored 41 to stay ahead. With a handful of games left, who do you think ends up being the scoring champion?

Personally, I'm hoping for a George Gervin/David Thompson scenario with some huge numbers from both players, or at least a David Robinson-type situation where one of them has a huge game on the final day of the season to pull ahead. I'll take James Harden to win it.

Harden. It's too little too late for Westbrook now.

Too little too late? If he scores enough points the rest of the way, he can certainly do it. He's 0.02 ppg behind Harden right now.

This is the scoring championship, not the MVP. ;)

Then saying "too little too late" makes absolutely no sense, given how close it is and the fact they could feasibly change places the next game they play.

Tough to choose between these two... but my vote went to Westy.

BTW can you guys believe it? These two used to be teammates. KD-WESTY-HARDON dynasty would have been just... (Y)

Looking at the remaining games for both teams, Bestbrook's going to clinch it.

Westbrook just to spice up the alpha-male situation in OKC a bit more.

With his 54 point outburst yesterday, Russell Westbrook is currently ahead, 27.9 to 27.5.

I honestly can't wait to see how casual basketball fans will view this Westbrook season in a few years.

It's going to be fun in OKC this offseason, and the next season.

Casual fans won't treat Westbrook much better in a few years mostly because he doesn't play for big ass market team but for the smallest shittiest city. If he was a Laker, he'd be a legend by now, two time league MVP, undisputed allstar starter from year 0 to retirement, so on.

I'm not quite sure. Westbrook has gotten himseld a lot of bandwagon fans in my area.

I said it countless times, but I can't wait to see how the OKC roster situation will pan out.

Still hoping for some ridiculous numbers from Harden and Westbrook to conclude the race today.

Clippers season is over so nobody can drop 71 on them with their consent.

I suppose the Thunderwolves could play that role.

Looks like Harden's done for the night, he has 16. Westbrook may or may not get back into the game for the Thunder, but he has 37. Looks like it's Westbrook after all.

Not the huge numbers I was hoping to see on the final night, but Westbrook did have 34 in the first half and Harden tallied a triple double, which has been Westbrook's thing this year. Had both games been closer, we might have at least seen another 50 point outburst from Westbrook.

Final numbers: 28.1 to 27.4. It didn't end up being the closest race to date, but it's up there.
