that 1 isnt very good, too many of those tip ins, even thought that was the feature, but wasnt the feature suppose to be "freestyle air"?

that video seems so old, weren't you able to tip-in, and put backs in '03 and '04.

I can't get that white "outline" look of the players outta my head... Hopefully that's a problem for the consoles and not PC.
Wed Aug 18, 2004 2:25 pm
I hope you can turn that shit off. Thats that kind of lighting you get when you play basketball at night.

The new features are nice but what i had noticed is the player models are still unrealistics. Lack of muscles, Yao ming arms were too short & not proportional to his height. But i wish EA could still fix it but over-all it is going to be a better sim game & best edition of nba live.
Wed Aug 18, 2004 6:42 pm
I think the outline is bad because of the quality of the pics but when you see the game in motion it should look alot better
And i didnt notice how short mings arm was until you said something. Wow, but i can deal with that if the rest of the game is legit i think thats from EA using that one body type different model formula they use with madden

I happen to like the white outline personally...adds a little style to the graphics. The tip-ins..i have a little problem with them - they seem to go in from too far a distance. Tip ins are usually done fairly close to the basket when they are successful.
Thu Aug 19, 2004 12:18 am
The outline is probably barely noticable when everything's moving.

They have to fix the hair...well the braids and cornrows at least, I've seen a couple shots of Carmelo and a vid of Darius Miles and its like their hair is stuck to their head, cornrows stick out a little if you all get what I mean. I think ESPN 2K4 had good cornrows because they looked a little more realistic. And I remember in Live 2004, that if you have Ben Wallace on your team, I think he always switches his hair from afro to cornrows... well when you create a player that has cornrows but switches to afro sometimes, you should be able to choose the option for the person to switch, like for instance if you made Hot Sauce, he switches sometimes.

The shine on the players looks kinda realistic if you ask me...I dunno why everyone's complaning about something that's supposed to make the game look better. Anyway, the new net animations look pretty good though they're not as good as the ones in the e3 trailer video.
And I'm a little worried about the whole freestlye air thing myself. Didn't EA say that the first time they implemented something like this they usually made it pretty easy to abuse?

Ah well, as long as there's more offensive rebounds I'm happy
Oh and...did anyone else notice that the ref just disappears into the scorers table after the tip-off?
Edit:

Well now that you bring that up, I just noticed that Ben Wallace has a fro in the new vid...didn't they have him with cornrows in one of those screenshots?

That's exactly what I think. That's probably a 'problem' (I don't really think it is one) you would only get for screenshots, or if you slow it down in instant replay. Everything looks mahvelous, I can't wait.
Thu Aug 19, 2004 5:02 am
Yeah when you look at the videos, you don't really notice the outline

. And anyways, some real life photos show sort of an outline

. I think it is pretty well done personally

.

I didnt see any freesytle air in the movie. just lots of tippin and putbacks. i read somewhere that you can control it with right analog to switch hands, switch lay-ups to dunks, or switch dunks from layups, while you are in the air. i assume all of you saw this movie already; http://Gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_nbalive_2k5_e3_2k4.wmv. watch the layups that jason kid's 360 lay-ups and kg's lay-up and blocked dunk. i just dont see that kind of moves in the freestyle air movie. i hope its not just a hype.
Thu Aug 19, 2004 5:42 am
qballer, if outline is on console its gona be a PC, and i doubt it will be that bright in the game, those are are just pictures
Thu Aug 19, 2004 6:11 am
I don't know if it's just me, but I think Yao's arms look short because his arm is cocked back, and it just so happens that the angle of the shot makes it look like his arm is outstretched...
The thing I don't like about the tipins is it looks too spaced out. It's like the ball flies to one guy all alone and he jumps up and swats it back in, whereas when I watch a game it's like elbow to elbow everybody trying to get the ball...

Freestyle Air really refers to the seperation of the put back buttons. Modifying layups in-air is a seperate cattegory (I believe?)

Ok, i read it from EA sport's interview with the producer of 'nba live 2005'. its on their nba live 2005 website. you can also see the jason kid's 360 layups here;

i know most of you all saw it but im curious to know if you can really do it in game play.
EA SPORTS: What is EA SPORTS Freestyle Air?
Tim Tschirner: EA SPORTS Freestyle Air extends Freestyle Control to the air.
With Freestyle Shooting you now decide whether you want to rebound, dunk or tip-in a missed shot attempt. In the past this was decided by the CPU for you, but now you have full control -- press the Jump button to grab the Rebound, press the Shoot button to tip it back in or press the Dunk button to attempt a put-back. This helps tremendously with Offensive Rebounding and makes battling for position in the post much more important.
In addition, when you go up for a dunk or a lay-up and you see a defender attempting to block your shot you can alter it in mid-air and switch from a lay-up to a dunk or from a dunk to a lay-up.
EA SPORTS: Are those the only additions to Freestyle Control?
Tim Tschirner: Absolutely not -- we've added quite a few other things as well. Freestyle Control is in its third year and there are a lot of brand new moves that put even greater control in your hands. A completely reworked Post Freestyle move set combined with further player differentiation and signature move packages on the perimeter create the deepest Freestyle system to date.
You'll also notice that CPU players now utilize the complete Freestyle move set often and very effectively -- they can do every move that you'll be able to pull off.
I hope EA will keep their words this year.

I hope Ben's Fro is out, and it actually moves this year.. that'd be badazz... But Look at the crowd in those pics. The arenas look pretty good. and u can see alot more of the crowd.
I thought Freestyle air was going to be where you can adjust your own dunks in the air... ?
And it looks like Sheed is actually dunking ON Dirk.. Dirk isnt just sliding out of the way like in past games. this could be an upside.
Also i was wondering, If you miss a tip-in, could someone else come up and tip it back in ?

Detroit Champs wrote:I hope Ben's Fro is out, and it actually moves this year.. that'd be badazz...
that would be huh.... it'll be like flyin' all over the place, getting in players eyes, messin up them from catching the ball. that'll be tight.
Detriot Champs wrote:But Look at the crowd in those pics. The arenas look pretty good. and u can see alot more of the crowd.
Now when we play, it'll probably be full instead of a ghost town.
Detriot Champs wrote:Also i was wondering, If you miss a tip-in, could someone else come up and tip it back in ?
I hope so. I hope so.
