 I forgot to mention Cormega who I love (Dangerous ft. Vybz Kartel just came on th playlist,) I was debating him at 5. Then forgot to include him entirely. Also forgot Guru of Gang Starr, and Chuck D of Public Enemy (whos' like Pac with more MC'ing skills, but I'll get into that later). And I'd say Eminem when he's not trying to be funny/dissing his mom or Kim/and general appeal to the white suburban kid (like Rabbit Run off the * Mile OST.) This is what I think of 2Pac. I feel that for someone of his supposed caliber, he's weak in verse construction and his MC'ing skills are nothing special. This is not saying he is bad at this, but he's not as good at either as anyone on my list at those parts (except Guru, Eminem, and maybe the Blackstar guys.) 2Pac's rhymes always came across as very simple. A Biggie (and Mobb Deep + Goodie Mob) song just came on my playlist, and here's an example of how complicated Big gets with his rhymes.

"I make your mouth piece obese like Della Reese/When I release you loose teeth like Little C/Nigga please blood flood your dungarees/And that's just the half of my warpath" - Biggie, 'Kiss Your Ass Goodbye'

Yes Pac makes a statement, which I love about the guy. That's pretty much all I really like about him. I don't even think he makes the best political statements. That recognition goes to Chuck D of Public Enemy fame. Those two are very similar MC's in my mind, their style isn't all that different (Chuck's is better, IMO of course) and they like to make a statement with their rhymes. I also think Chuck D is the smartest man in hip-hop. I saw an interview with him once on Much Music's (our MTV) Rap City once and was just amazed at how much he seems to know about everything. And he was at a function of some kind at an art gallery for the interview, which was kind of wierd. But shows he is an intelligent guy with an eye for everything.

Now remember, I do like 2Pac's music. However it is overrated in my opinion. I would rather listen to everyone I've mentioned so far (minus Eminem) for an extended period of time instead of Pac. Don't take this offensively though.

PS: I really like how much you (and others here) know about rap, can't talk to anybody at my school about this kind of stuff. They're mostly too trapped in white suburbia thinking stuff like Jay-Z is the best. There's a few others, but they don't even know of people like Cormega.

It's all personal preference. Whether you like emotional, conscious, word play, structured, etc.

I dont try and convince people who I think is the best because its what you feel in your heart. Obviously if you grew up listensing to Pac at the time of his arrival to his death than you would feel a stronger connection to him.
