Best bball game ever?

Tue Oct 28, 2014 3:39 am

Setting aside the graphics, is this the best bball game ever made in terms of gameplay and features? I'm really enjoying this year's offering. I remember last year got me raging with the team momentum nonsense and the online matchup limitations (random strangers and random teams with no selection). Some year's 2k's and NBA Live's had problems with rebounding, assisting, hand checking (in one of the NBA Lives, you could shove any non ball handler on his butt with no calls, haha).

But this year's seems to be solid. The graphics are amazing. The gameplay seems to be well balanced. Dribbling is awesome with the right stick and added size-up moves. There are 4 types of passes now which is crazy cause I always missed lob passing over the guy fronting the post. Cheesing moves have been removed (offensive fouls, spamming steal button, spin dunk, dunks in general).

The only complaint I may have is that shooting is way overpowered and defending the shot is really tough. But this can be fixed with sliders. All in all, a terrific game so far.

Maybe too early to say, but I think it's definitely a candidate.

Best bball game ever?

If that's the case no point in having NBA 2K16 then.

Time for Leftos and rest of the NBA 2K devs to work on WWE 2K instead.

No, that honor goes to NBA Live 2003.

Andrew will probably disagree, edit this post to write NBA 2k15 and ban this account.

For a sim, this for me, is the best basketball game ever, but only if we're just talking about gameplay. As a total package, I can't say that it's the best ever when all these features are missing.

That game :bowdown2: This was the first basketball game i played and it made me really love basketball because i played it really much even though it has flows comparing to newer games. But the soundtrack  , this game with live 2004 have best soundtracks ever. The memories... But if i try to be objective i'd say this year's game, it's really somethign new, on another level, really enjoying the progress of basketball simulation gaming.

For me, it's a bit too early and at the current state I'd have a hard time calling it the best. If I had to make a list of my all-time favourite basketball games this would be:

1. 2K14 (modded)
2. 2K10
3. Lakers vs Celtics THE NBA Playoffs
4. 2K9
5. TV Sports Basketball
6. NBA Live 96

At the moment I think it'd go at number 5, one spot below 2k9. If it's modded / patched and the game changes considerably it might be top 1-3.

I don't think taking modding into account is fair.

For me, this game doesn't top 2K11, which doesn't quite reach NBA Live 2005, which doesn't come remotely close to Live 2000.

2K15 is better than 2K12-2K14 by a bit of a margin. Nice to see it rebound, 2K14 was the absolute pits in my opinion.

If this game had had a coaching mode, it might've been my second favorite all time, but it doesn't. Still, fourth place isn't too shabby.

Only real annoyances being the hair glitches and how they decided to handle rosters this year.

Graphics and gameplay yes

I also like how you can create draft classes and load them every start of the season

But there are some basic things that 2k omitted that are major issues to me

1. Not being able to do a "save as" or make multiple copies of your association save file
2. Not being able to turn off autosave

These 2 things severely limit flexibility of the association and I hope 2k addresses these. I'd take a more association depth more than anything (i.e. myGM, Mypark etc)

Im also worried about modding potential of the game, I wonder if we'd see a reditor for 2k15, that one is a great tool that I would definitely miss

With the 2 major issues plus possible lack of modding potential, I rank 2k15 below 2k11 and 2k14. But if these concerns were addressed I'd say 2k15 is way ahead of any previous basketball game

Perchance I was an official entity (magazine, website etc) making an official list, I'd agree with you. In that case only vanilla versions should be taken into account. Granted, 2k14 vanilla (PC) would be way below in that list. However, I'm just an individual making an honest personal list.

But I'd also like to state what else is not fair and actually a much bigger injustice: 2K purposefuly removing game assets / modes, downgrading visuals from one edition over to the next, or releasing inferior versions for the PC. Bear in mind that most mods for 2K14 either borrowed features / settings from previous 2k games or features from the NG version.

For overall fun and, this game is it.

I'm sure once 2k irons out the wrinkles, the game will be that much better

Ok ... I know I've been quite negative on 2k15. But after I managed to use radeonpro and make the controls responsive, I'm glad to say I'm on the "best bball game" bandwagon. Granted, there are still issues. Not being able to set nba rules (in order to lower the amount of fouls needed for a player to get ejected) , broken full court defense, bad floor textures etc, etc

Regardless of that, being able to play this game without control lag really made the true advantages of the game shine. Defense now works, intense d works... it didn't before I was able to use radeonpro, it was like I couldn't use 2 buttons at the same time.

I'm really glad, I've just played 3 games straight, lost to Atlanta, won vs Knicks and 76ers via wide margin. I've just raised CPU's sliders because the game is much more fair now. If I keep winning, I'll raise it from HOF/custom to HOF/sim.

2k15 is great (when it works as it should). I hope that 2k fixes some issues with upcoming patches and it will be a flawless experience.

definitly not nba 2k15.... mycareer is just a joke, no playoff stats, no playoff trees, you don't even know the qualified teams and the results while playoffs........ nothing...
I don't find the story too scripted, this is cool to see a bit assets, but hey 2k, you forgot the menus !!!!!!
Is there no way to reduce and save the replay and cinematics frequency, no shit, bullshitt.... oh i forgot, looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng times !!! for everything.... loooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng times.....

i probably forget much much things, otherwise gameplay is good, graphics,.... can't say good my 2k15 is uglier than 2k14 coz lags... wtf don't you test games before releasing em?

Sounds like you have a weak rig. My game runs fine. loading times are fast. 2k15 looks so much better than 2k14 PC

My opinion on this game has gone from crap to great to crap again to great again and finally I think I'm standing somewhere in the middle. Granted when I solved some issues with radeonpro it felt much better to play this game. Today I was playing a game vs timberwolves and although the game was close I just got bored and simed to end.

Having played it for almost a month now - if I'm not mistaken - I'm affraid the problem is that at the end of the day it's just not that much fun. I don't know if it's due to the cpu cheese, the broken defense, the problems in movement momentum etc... I can't pinpoint really what bothers me. The best way I could describe my feelings on the game would be this:

2K15 is like you're dating a supermodel. She's great to look at but she doesn't talk much, and the few times she does it just feels awkward and you wish she'd stay quiet. 2k14 on the other hand, is like the girlfriend who is not as extravagant as the supermodel but when you sit down with her she makes sense and she also makes you laugh from time to time.

nice metaphor, it's clear what you feel but ......

......isn't it too early to tell?
2K14 was quite akward too on the first date before she was all modded up.
The graphic mods, URB rosters etc etc
I'm hoping on Vlad and others here to make the supermodel not only look good.
After all, out of the box , I for one like the 2k15 better - graphics aside

Its not a crap for sure, but why after month of premiere i dont want to launch this game anymore. It was my last preorder for sure, next time i will wait for some youtubers.
I dont like cheesing in gameplay by cpu, sliders cant help, i dont like foot planting, i dont like pad lag, especially in defense. Save corrupt, poor quality courts, scripted gameplay, sometimes huge problems with multiplayer etc.
Animations, models and better players spacing cant safe this game, because like always gameplay and small details are most important. My grade is 7/10.
If Vlad and others wont create editor i see no sense to stick with 2k15, after few quick games i back to 2k13(2k14) and i feel home.

Same here. I was pissed I had to spend another 160 on top of the $60 game to get it working (new vid card). I have a love hate relationship with this game. It's infuriating when you feel like the game is scripted and team momentum/cpu assist is on. But then there are those moments either online or just vs cpu when you're like "wow, did I just do that? "

The problem with 2K15 (leftos please respond if you can) is, for Association guys like me, a lot of the options and flexibility that we previously enjoyed were removed

1. Save as (saving multiple copies of your save file) and the ability to name them
2. option to Turn off autosave
3. Ability to edit your CAP face (at least hairdo) outside Create a player
4. three way trade removal

with the exception of #3 which is minor annoyance, the rest are basic things that I dont understand why 2k removed. they were there already and they made association a much more fun and flexible experience!
