He suffered what they call a Jones fractureThe Oklahoma City Thunder announced Sunday that Kevin Durant has suffered what is called a Jones fracture in his right foot. The injury usually requires surgery and the reigning MVP forward could miss 6-8 weeks of time with the injury. Thunder GM Sam Presti released the following statement:
“After practice yesterday, Kevin made us aware of discomfort in his right foot," GM Sam Presti said in a statement released to media. "We proceeded to perform the necessary imagining studies to determine the cause of his discomfort. At this stage, Kevin has been diagnosed with a Jones fracture. Traditional treatment of this injury requires a surgical procedure and recent NBA cases have resulted in a return to play in 6-8 weeks. We are in the process of collaboratively evaluating the most appropriate next steps with Kevin, his representatives, and Thunder medical personnel. Until a course of action is determined, we are unable to provide a timeline specific to Kevin's case.”
A Jones fracture typically occurs 3/4 of an inch from the base of the fifth metatarsal, or pinkie toe. The biggest issue with this injury, and the reason Presti doesn't state that Durant himself is expected to return in that time frame is because healing of the injury can be complicated by a lack of blood flow, which can prevent a re-joining of the fracture, or cause a re-fracture.
Westbrook, it's your team for the time being.

Kevin, why?
Westbrook, you better make up for that loss.

No Durant, no problem! Westbrook will save OKC!

Durant gets injured even before the season started because he's already afraid of Kobe returning.

NBA 2K clearly has their own version of the Madden curse going on. First Rose, now Durant.

He probably kicked his console after losing his myplayer and getting kicked from online play.

Man, we get some good mileage out of that GIF.

Any bets for what Westbrook's FGA per game will be?

the irony of him quitting usa basketball for fear he would get hurt

No doubt.
In all seriousness, a tremendous shame for him, and the NBA. You never like to see anyone go down with any kind of significant injury, and marquee matches obviously aren't quite the same without all the top stars. Hopefully he will be back in 6-8 weeks, and won't suffer any long-term ill-effects.

Kobe
But yeah, I think Westbrook wouldn't make any impact except making random 3-pointers when Durant is not around. But who do you guys think will start for the Small Forward position?

Yeah, he does come to mind. Of course, he has a much larger frame and played at times when he really should've rested, which wasn't a good combination for his recovery.

Saw a stat that Russ attempted 35 FGs in the 41 mins last season that he was on the court without KD. He's gonna be on that Kobe/Melo scoring binge til KD is back. Not to mention that the Thunder offensive sets are abysmal, with KD and Russ saving them usually by making shots. Good luck!
From the Thunder perspective, theyve got to hope that Lamb and Morrow step up scoring and shot-making (if Russ decides to pass any).

Injury's hitting the Thunder hard. McGary is out. Perkins is out. Neither are going to play in the season opener that's for sure.
Reggie Jackson and Morrow probably need to carry scoring load a bit more now. Steven Adams will need to pick up the slack as well.

No.They should just concentrate on defense and let Westbrook go nuts on offense. He'll learn to be a better player that way.
