Request for feedback regarding micro-stuttering

Fri Oct 10, 2014 10:24 am

For those of you encountering microstuttering, if you go to

%appdata%\2K Sports\NBA 2K15

and edit VideoSettings.cfg where it says VSYNC=X (where X is 0/1) to VSYNC=2 (i.e. lock to 30FPS), does the microstuttering go away?

I'm not suggesting this is as a permanent solution, we don't want you guys to be locked to 30FPS, but it was requested to me that I get some feedback on whether this makes it go away, as it might help us track down the reason behind it.

Just tested. I'm still getting a good amount of stuttering. I normally use RadeonPro (to force Triple Buffering, Anisotropic optimization, Trilinear optimization and Surface Optimization) which eliminates almost all the stuttering for me, but I turned it off for this and set VSYNC to 2, but still getting microstutter. It's not as bothersome when you're capped at 30, but then again, it's cause you're capped at 30.

Also, for me and a couple of others, the microstutter seems to happen the most when bringing up the ball and passing half court. Things get choppy and frames start skipping a bit, then it resumes back to 60fps. This is also happening along with some audio crackling every now and then. Super annoying.

Thanks for addressing PC users here, nice to know we have someone on our side working for 2k. Any other things you need us to test, I can try.

the stuttering from nba 2k15 reminds me of nba 2k09...

With fast transitions, long passes, I usually faces micro-stuttering...

surprisingly i dont have the micro stuttering. It was unlike NBA 2K14 which was really bad I had to change something in the config file to remove the microstuttering *(LIMIT_FLIP_QUEUE_LENGTH = 2 to LIMIT_FLIP_QUEUE_LENGTH = 0 or 9)

specs

i7 950
6Gb RAM
AMD R9 280X

AMD did have a driver update a day before NBA 2k was released so Im not sure if it had anything to do with it

PLaying on maxed out in game settings (didnt touch AMD control center) on 1920x1080
Camera is Beluba zoomed in

It actually made my micro stuttering worse lol.

There's no more jitter, yea. So yea less micro-stuttering, but the fps is 30 haha

Also Leftos - I found there is no microstutter at 60 fps maxed out on blacktop games and very little if at all on classic teams at home

Those of you without stutter, can you please share the exact settings you're using? Does Fullscreen vs. Windowed (fullscreen) affect it? V-sync? AA/AF settings? Thank you.

CPU: Intel i7 3770K
GPU: AMD Radeon 280X
RAM: 16 GB

I notice the stutter during timeouts when you're all huddled up and stuff. Jerseys seem to shake a lot (weird physics?) too. I am playing on max settings, windowed (fullscreen), v-sync on with triple buffer through RadeonPro (it was suggested in another thread).

Seemed to help a little bit. Still got a jitter every now and then.

to clarify: just played as 87 lakers aginst 86 hawks - silky smooth. also the tryout game in mycareer doesn't have stutter. There is microstutter (before this 30 fps thing) for current NBA teams in quick game, etc. hope you guys find a fix ASAP!

Damn, maybe that's it! Because I've been testing my games on NBA Today quick games. I'm gonna have to test jitter out later on historic teams

Someone reported another thread that after shaking their audio driver the stuttering was gone.

Not shaking, disabling.

What do you mean shaking their audio driver?...

thank you @leftos, for trying to collect feedback and possible solution. i'm sorry for not being able to give you feedback from my end since i still don't have the game, but i would like to ask you to also pay attention to aspect ratio issue reported on several threads, where people would have black bars if they don't have 16:9 monitor.

for me this issue with aspect ratio is a deal breaker, since my monitor is 5:4 aspect ratio (1280x1024). i'm not buying the game if that's not fixed too (along with micro-stuttering).

thank you in advance!

Yes i did this and i got zero drops and zero stuttering on max settings. With Audio even on the lowest everything i get crackling and stuttering at times during gameplay. It only last for few seconds then it goes back to working fine. The stop/starts are annoying as hell though as is the sound it makes when it happens.

Thanks Leftos for gathering feedback on this issue, although I cannot confirm that my system experiences any stutters. I run the game maxed out (both in game and in nvidia control panel 3d settings) and play with default camera (broadcast stadium) on GTX 980.

Besides the stutter that most experience I believe as big of an issue is the aspect ratio thing/black bars on top and the bottom. For monitors with 5:4 or 16:10 ratios and resolutions like 1920x1200 we cannot experience proper full screen game unless we are ok to play the game with black bars on top and bottom of the screen. So if you chose monitors native resolution of 1920x1200 and apply option "Aspect ratio correction" the screen is not stretched out, but we get black bars on top and bottom of the screen. Switching option "Aspect ratio correction" OFF makes the image full screen but its noticeably stretched out.

Leftos, this set u propose to us is simple adoption vertical sync which is available from nvidia drivers and it not help, one thing it helps is full stable 30fps, stuttering is still here.

Re: Request for feedback regarding micro-stuttering

I had a minor breakthrough this morning, and it appears to be in turning off the in game vsync setting. Immediately, my stutters dropped almost to nothing. I use adaptive vsync with my Titan Black and when I turned off the in game, stutters dropped and even the graphical quality improved dramatically. It's still there , but not to the point of being distracting. I'm also going o try the "run as admin" that people have been saying is causing the game to run better. But I will say that turning off vsync in game did wonders. There are still some problems when I play with the AA options. With it on 2, the game gets really wonky. I'm going to try a full manual profile in Control Panel this evening, and use the override program settings option. Thanks for the help Leftos!

Damn, stuttering with Titan...

Re: Request for feedback regarding micro-stuttering

Yeah, reason I've been major bummed. But I'm thinking it's more about the drivers and the code in the game. So my having a Titan is the same as my 650ti in my other PC. I think they can fix it. Just glad to see they are all over this. One thing I've never liked about the PC version is that it never got patched. What is was, it was. This make me feel a heck of a lot better that it'll get fixed!

Hi everyone! I'm new at this forum :D
Stoped by just to say that i tried the "disable audio driver solution" and it worked! No stuttering whatsoever. It sucks playin' without sound, though.

But at least it's perfectly playable. Is it possible to report this to anyone at 2k?

Thanks!

Later...

stuttering with Titan? Card which cost 1000$? I can understand my specs but damn Titan, i wish that devs start talk about fixing issues because too many guys talks about little or bigger problems with this game.
