Kings to retire Peja Stojakovic's jersey

Postby Andrew on Wed Sep 17, 2014 5:54 pm

Story @ Yahoo! NBA

The Sacramento Kings are planning to retire Peja Stojakovic's No. 16 jersey.

The Kings announced Tuesday that Stojakovic's jersey will be retired when they host Oklahoma City on Dec. 16. He joins Vlade Divac (21), Chris Webber (4) and Mitch Richmond (2) as the only players to have their jerseys retired by the Kings since the franchise moved from Kansas City in 1985.

Well-deserved I'd say, he's one of the best players they've had and was part of their most successful era to date. I was glad to see him get a ring with the Mavericks in 2011, since things never were able to come together in Sacramento.

Well deserved. As Shaq said, White Chocolate and C-Webb made other Kings players from that era think they could play when they couldn't. He still has one of the prettiest assists ever:

That announcer said Hedo Turkoglo instead since he can't pronounce Stojakovic properly... Is Bibby next in line? I'm kinda 50/50 on it but since they honor Peja I reckon there's a possibility he'll be next...

I suppose they could possibly retire Bibby's jersey at some point. For what it's worth, he apparently isn't retired, even though he hasn't played in the NBA since 2012.

Well deserved!
I really liked that Kings team. What a shame they didn't won a title together because of C-Webb's injury.

That is only one of the reasons. The kings emerged when the west already had the Lakers, Spurs and Blazers as strong/stronger with players that already won championships. When you add bad reffereeing to the mix you realize the Kings had a very tight championship window.

EDIT: Your fix is more in place now (Y)

Indeed a great shooter and a player.

I hope they do retire Bibby's jersey as well, one of rare Vancouver players that had success elsewhere, I'm definitely biased.

Thanks for being hot during the Lakers-Mavs series, Peja!

When Ben McLemore wore #16 I got suspicious if they wouldn't retire Peja Stojakovic's number.

One of the greatest players in Sacramento Kings history. One of the greatest shooters in NBA history.
