Closure of Modding sites

Thu Jul 31, 2014 2:20 pm

I've been noticing that a lot of Modding sites have been shutting down. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this???

nbaspot.com
nbasky.com

nbaspot.com and nbasky.com I think is the same site. I actually released my very first mod there (didnt know NLSC exists back then). Showform (their admin) hasn't been active in the forums because he said that he doesn't have 2k14 installed and other members completely abandoned the site since other sites are much more better (NLSC.). THE END.

Man, this is just a wierd thread lol, from my point of view i don't care for shit, if someone's site closes down, it's life, someone goes, something new comes. It's amazing how NLSC has been stable for such a long time, so be happy it exists :D Atleast less "people(patchers)" will bitch about there works being posted somewhere else, without there so called "permission", when those sites dies from inactivity.

Sites definitely come and go, but I am surprised to see sky/spot go down, like you said, inactivity, it happens.

I would be completely shocked if moddingway went down, that would be a huge blow to the community as a whole. Since their Facebook posted something about a PES mod being released on the 2nd, I dont think they are going anywhere anytime soon, which is good.

I wouldn't count on NLSC going anywhere though, even if it ends up with no one but team members using a public forum to talk amongst ourselves. Only 2 years away from the 20 year mark of existence.

Oh ok cool that was my main worry (Y) I definitely didn't want this site to go down. But hopefully Moddingway stays that is a great website also. We shall see after the 3rd.

This process always happens. I've seen lots of modding sites got closed.

nbalive.org, soccergaming.com, 4th-quarter.net are examples that I can remember.

Others were geocities, tripod, lycos, angelfire pages etc. These included some fine patches, but back the time, I never considered to make a backup of these fine patches.

Now, all are gone. Also the images that people uploaded to ImageShack are gone. Files that people uploaded to SendSpace, Uploading and mostly Rapidshare.de, are all lost.

This is a process, unless someone remembers to backup files.

In football games (what Americans call soccer), I've seen hundreds of modding sites closed. Much more sites than basketball modding sites.

For what it's worth, we definitely don't intend on going anywhere. We have our ups and downs, and the occasional technical hiccup (mainly when the monthly backup is taking place), but we're in it for the long haul and we enjoy what we do.

Sites usually disappear due to a combination of technical difficulties, expense of hosting costs, or a lack of interest and suitable amount of free time on the part of the people running them. Fortunately, none of those are issues for us at this time, and we'll do what we can to ensure that they do not become issues for us in the future. Again, we're not planning on disappearing anytime soon. :)

It's a shame to see other sites go down however, especially when their resources can't be preserved.

It's funny how patching "GODS" (i don't want to say names anymore) stray away from NLSC and go on their own making own forums or maybe joining other forums but yet here we are still alive (Y) :applaud:
