i'm glad he's back with his old cavs' number. it's right this way. i also feel he did it because of the fans already having his #23 jersey.

Nah, bashers would say he is copying mj. He shouldve just sticked with number 6 and create his own legacy.

Let them. They're over a decade too late on that though, since he wore the number before he even entered the NBA. If anything, they might say that he's going back on his declaration that no one should wear #23 in the NBA anymore, but it's silly to hold him to that, too.

One can appreciate him expressing that sentiment, but bottom line, the NBA didn't retire #23 as the NHL did Wayne Gretzky's #99. No one should wear #23 for the Chicago Bulls again, and the Heat obviously did their tribute, but that's the extent of it. LeBron wearing #23 as he returns home seems only fitting. Good decision.

I think that number 6 might have a relation with Bill Russell and his 11 rings. For me, wearing 6 will not be "creating his own legacy."

It wasn't a surprising move. I bet he wouldve worn #23 in Miami if it wasn't already retired for Michael Jordan in one of the weirdest retired numbers ever.

It would have been more interesting if he pulled a Kobe and took # 6 and force the Cavs to retire both numbers.

Why must Jordan always comment on everything?

Because LeBron name dropped him as the main reason for changing his number from 23 to 6 when he moved to the Heat and it's only reasonable for Jordan to comment on it when asked since LeBron used his name in the first place?

He sent ESPN a text.

I know. It wasn't fair of LeBron to take back the 23 again after all the praise and petition talks he did upon joining Heat. But, I think this is more related to his past at Cleveland than Jordan.

Why would Jordan waste his time texting someone from ESPN (Broussard) if they didn't text him first for his opinion? Chris Broussard said so that he asked Jordan about it and Jordan was kind enough to reply back with a text.

Broussard went straight to the main source and didn't rely on his numerous and reliable sources, that's as confirmed as it gets.

That 'thescore' site linked a few posts above didn't give a link to the main ESPN story it referred to where Broussard said it.

it was obvious to me that they asked jordan. they probably called him about it and he replied by text knowing it was a stupid thing to talk about

If LeBron just kept quiet about that number, remember him saying no one should use "23". He just broke his own word. If he didn't made that comment before, he would've been receiving less hate XD.

I understand the ESPN thing. Though, I don't understand why Jordan HAD TO reply. He could have ignored it since it was a silly thing to talk about.

My question is why didn't Jordan say anything the first time when LeBron turned 23 into God? He was quiet then when he was actually name-dropped. But this time, LeBron didn't mention Jordan but Jordan went on with his "cool, I don't own shit" statement.

Jordan is like Maradona, only a bit more polite version.

To recap: LeBron's comments from a few years back are brought up in light of his decision to go back to #23, because there are people who want to make an issue out of it. ESPN reaches out to MJ for his thoughts on the matter. Jordan's response is basically "Yeah, I don't actually have a problem with it, why would I?", essentially supporting LeBron's decision and shutting down anyone who thinks he was out of line, because the one person who's supposedly meant to be slighted and offended by the whole thing doesn't feel that way at all. And somehow, Jordan's the bad guy in all this?

No, he's not. There is no bad guy here. No one acted inappropriately, disrespected anyone, or spoke out of turn.

I'm sure he was asked about what LeBron said about in 2010. But Jordan didn't care to reply when LeBron praised him but commented now when LeBron made a "faulty" decision and made a return to #23.

But maybe, I'm reading a bit too much into it.
