2-year deal via Twitter.

Good deal for them. I heard somewhere that they will make a push for Durant in 2016 free agency so didn't want to give Ariza the long term contract he wanted. This fits in perfectly on the Durant timeline plus Pierce is a solid addition to a playoff team.

Oh my god, Pierce. You ain't getting another ring if you ask me.

i really wish he ended up back in boston to end his career. at least join a team with a chance to win.

What's the reason he joined the Wizards? Money?

stupidity. he should of taken an add out in the herald that said "i am coming home too"
Sun Jul 13, 2014 3:16 pm
Yep. Was hoping for him to say, "I'm coming home."

maybe.........

Interesting. Pierce was allegedly asking $9-10 million per season in a 2 year deal. Then was contacted by Doc to re-join him in LA. Then end up choosing the MLE from the Wizards.
1) Doesn't return to the long loving city of the Celtics.
2) Ditches Garnett whom he convinced out of retirement.
3) Doesn't want to win with his old coach.
Boston is a Brotherhood.

No sign and trade?
Sun Jul 13, 2014 7:56 pm
This is maybe the most puzzling move this offseason so far...
Sun Jul 13, 2014 9:08 pm
Completely unexpected. But i guess it's actually a good signing from the Wizards' perspective.
Sun Jul 13, 2014 9:45 pm
I wonder if part of his role with the Wizards will be to mentor Otto Porter?
Could be a good signing if he contributes on the court and helps Porter become a better player.
Sun Jul 13, 2014 11:30 pm
cool?

He's obviously nearing the end of his career, but he's still a good addition for the Wizards. He can contribute on the court, and should be a good influence on their young players.
Still, it's kind of a shame to see him become one of those players that has a long tenure with a team where he's an All-Star, then bounce around the league a bit at the end of his career. I'd have liked to have seen a farewell run with the Celtics.

I actually really like this. You can't really accuse Paul Pierce of being a ring-chaser since the Wizards' ceiling is getting swept in the Finals, but he should be a great fit on that roster. Between him and internal improvement, I expect the Wizards to improve their regular season win total and at least replicate their playoff success.
Deal is for only two years. Wouldn't be shocked if he was a bench-warmer for a rebuilt 2016-17 Celtics squad.
