Is there an easier way to import lightmaps other than through hex editing?

I recently watched a tutorial video of jaosming regarding lightmaps and i am having difficulty with hex editing, I noticed that the video was about a year ago so im wondering if there is an easier method now that I can use? Thanks in Advance
