Don't know what happened/Game reset or something

I was curious on what the backup through steam was(I have the digital version) so I clicked on it and I went back to it about 5 minutes later and it said it had failed. I then started the game and before I could play there were a few updates. The game was set back to it's original state. All of my files are still in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\NBA2K14 and some of the cyberfaces are still in the game. I'm just really confused on what happened and am currently looking for a workaround. My saves and everything as well as mods are still there, just not showing in game. It's like Steam created a second disc and I need to get back to the first. I believe the update was 410 MG or something if that's relevant. So in other words 2k14 isn't using the files stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\NBA2K14. All the mods are still there too

Maybe I should use the condition zero method??

Just do a complete uninstall and reinstall, or do the Steam "verify game cache" option. Next time use JGSME
