Can the Jazz become a Powerhouse in 5 years?

Postby Hiteshom on Fri Jan 03, 2014 3:16 pm

I was just wondering what you guys think about this.
Think about it
Burke
Hayward
(Parker, Wiggins, Exum, etc.)
Favors
Kanter

Burks 6th man

Add in a couple veterans can do you think this can be a power house team?

Veterans like LeBron and Bosh. In 5 years, they'll be willing to join the team with shit load of talent to play a role of current Ray Allen. Imagine those vets coming off the bench behind the true superstar like Julius Randle and second fiddle stars like Gordon Hayward, Trey Burke. Game Over. The Jazz are the new Heat. Only the lockout will be able to stop them now. I need someone to make me a new sexy Jazz signature.

Powerhouse? I'm not too sure about that. Let's see how some of those players develop, how the team drafts and whether or not any quality free agents do actually sign there. I think it's possible that they're back in the Playoffs within the next five years though, somewhere in the 5th to 8th seed.

No way to tell really. Maybe if they get lucky like Cavs and use it properly. In 5 years, Celtics will have finished their rebuilding process. That's something I can tell

Biggest problem is probably being able to keep those players long term without trade demands and what not. Utah doesn't strike me as a city that up-and-coming players would really want to stay in long-term, let alone one that would attract key free agents (unless they become a powerhouse a little quicker than 5 years).

It's a pretty nice core though, with a lottery pick coming up next season.

In 5 years? Heck why not, It took OKC I think 4 years for them to get into the playoffs.
What's concerning is that Kanter is coming off the bench because he can't play defense, Burks comes off the bench in the favor of R.Jefferson, speaking of Favors, Favors doesn't get fed the ball that much. The Jazz has a nice foundation, they just need to keeping developing it.

The Thunder had Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook to build around, though. No one on the Jazz is near their level.

I think OP is assuming 2014 draft consists of those talent and the Jazz somehow hits the jackpot. Exum, Parker, Wiggins, and then there is Julius Randle, all of whom known for superstar potential. LeBron's draft class had some nice players like Wade, Bosh, Melo, and Darko. It's comparable, the Jazz lands a superstar and current roster develops nicely especially that Trey Burke isn't too bad. With a superstar and a star on top of solid depth, it's possible the Jazz could contend in 5 years.

They're on right path stashing on young talents. As long as they develop right and Jazz avoids overpaying them too much, I should say they'll be fine in 5 years. But who knows, lol.

Plus, the Jazz secretly have the Brooklyn draft pick of this year via Deron Williams.

No they don't. What they do have, is Golden State's picks for the next several years for taking on one year of expiring dead weight salary. Atlanta will likely own Brooklyn's pick.
