Sad but true...

Sat Nov 23, 2013 1:32 am

2K14... I just can not enjoy this game. And believe me, I tried. I want to like it and there are many things that are great about 2K14. Like better blocks, overall more fluent experience, adjusting your release timing (which is HUGE, imho), etc...

BUT - I just can't lose! I am 9-0 in my latest association and none of the games has even been close so far. The thing is, I have already lowered my shooting sliders to the point where I would miss a reasonable percentage of open shots. The real problem is that EVERY FUCKING SHOT IS AN OPEN SHOT!!! Seriously, what is this shit? I'm hitting .55 from three with Shawn Marion for god's sake! Jae Crowder shoots even better at .60!!! Only because those slackers won't contest any shots. My 3Pt-slider is at 41 at the moment at all-star difficulty. How can I get the CPU to play decent D on me? I try to slow the game down, running plays, playing smart, because that's what I've been doing for years. But I still end up with scores of 110+ every single game on 12minute quarters. But I just can't play this game on a higher difficulty setting, because then I feel stupid with the CPU ballhandler bullying his way inside way too often. Stopping him is not the issue, but only with steals, shot contests or blocks, not by forcing him to pass. Damn bastard won't give up the ball 8 out of 10 times! I've never been one to mess with sliders to the extreme, but is there any way to combat this? And I don't want to have to lower the sliders any further, because then I will miss open jumpers at a rate which is not acceptable for me. I won't cripple my offense just because the CPU can't defend properly.
Also, fatigue is even more fucked up than in previous years. After about two minutes, Dirk and Dalembert will be at ~75 stamina, while Monta and Harris are at 95. This was an issue before, but never so obviously wrong. Also, it can't really be countered by just lowering fatigue rate or giving the stamina slider a boost. Because then Ellis can play the whole game without ever going below 90. It wouldn't even be so bad if the players regained stamina at a faster rate. But playing a guy for 3 minutes and then having to bench him for the rest of the first quarter only for him to be back at ~95 at the start of the second is beyond reason. Granted, this is without timeouts. But even those don't seem to work consistently. Sometimes, a player will recover for 5-7 stamina, sometimes only 1 or 2. Why? WHY??? *shakes fist*
The new controls are not for everyone, including me. But damn your eyes, 2K!!! You can't just implement two control schemes for convenience and skip important stuff like alley-oop plays. Its lazy dumbassery like that which is really consistent in this series, and it just rubs me the wrong way.

I'm sad now.

dude this problem with poor defense was solved three weeks ago? i dont know about others because for me 2k13 is still better game but if u start searching for solution u will find one, its a matter of time. And like always not only sliders will solve every issue of this game. U must find good roster which is not focused on shoes or colors of atributes but which is deeply focused on coaching profiles/tendencies/ratings/plays/ etc. After premiere of every 2k(earlier same EA) nba game i've got the same feeling, i bought unfinished product with same bugs(or similar), with some non acceptable aspects of gamplay etc...but its still the best game ever haha.

How do I solve it then?

Increase CPU's defensive awareness, contest shot tendency and defensive pressure in their coach's profile. If it's still bad, might want to switch to the CPU team just to set the proper defensive settings (deny on every good outside shooter, it will actually result in the defender playing tight) and switch back to your team, though I can't guarantee that the settings won't get reset then.

CPU's point guard attempting to bully his way into the paint every single time can't really be prevented, but at least it can be stopped - contrary to 2K13. The only thing you could do is set the CPU tendencies for both taking inside shots and attacking the basket to 0, but it won't totally eliminate the problem. Stamina was worse last year in my opinion. If bigmen are getting tired way too quickly, just bump their stamina attribute slightly - should be easy enough, this isn't the next gen version. Scores haven't been a problem for me at all. I play 10-minute quarters and usually end up with scores anywhere in the 90-110 range. I play pretty slow in half-court, running plays and using almost the entire shot clock, but I also run fast breaks whenever an opportunity presents itself.

I don't like the new controls either and the alley-oops and flashy passes missing from 2K13 controls is just a typical, very sloppy 2K bug (just like inability to take off signature skills last year). Inexcusable, especially since there's been no mention of a patch coming, even for the consoles as of right now.

Mind sharing why and what exactly is now worse than it was in 2K13? Honest question, no sarcasm here.

I'd say that the next gen version has been occupying their time in recent weeks and fair enough too, but hopefully they can and will dedicate some time to creating a fix or two for the current gen (well, last gen now I suppose) version AND release any fixes for the PC version as well.

About the roster - I couldn't care less about shoes or gear. Any roster you can recommend? I loved your 2K13 project, btw. Think I'm gonna give it another whirl today. Last version I tried was .13

debiler, in 2k14 section i recommend slimms roster and use only teams which he already finished. Read carefully his thread to find the best gameplay for you, and try to set and test all things he mentioned there. He goes deep with editing all things, so he finished editing only 10 teams but it works how it should works. U must be more patient with sport games, after month 2k14 will be very enjoyable.
thx for kind word
