Welcome to Brick CIty, a Toronto Raptors association. I will be posting weekly game recaps, then bi-monthly league and team recaps as well as the occasional chapter for the story of my association, entitled "Brick City Chronicles". Obviously, the name is from the fact that Rudy Gay just shot 11-37 from the field while DeRozan was 6-22 a few games ago against the Rockets, I mean that must be a record right? Passing is like a UFO to this team perhaps. It is also frustrating to watch Rudy Gay pretending not to try in real life, which is why I made this association as well. Maybe he thinks he's too good to be in Toronto? Anyways, possible goals may include Gay making the all-star team, or DeMar doing the same, Raps making the playoffs, Valanciunas being a premier center in the league, etc.

Chapter 1: Aboard a sunken ship

Masai Ujiri arrived at his office 10 minutes early. It was his first day at work as the General Manager of the Toronto Raptors. However, he noticed something rather odd as he entered the door. A man in his late 40s, wearing an expensive suit, was on the phone. "Well, which one's the worst decision? OK, go with that." It was his former mentor, Bryan Colangelo. Confused, Masai stood in front of the man, looking dumbfounded. "Uhh, Bryan? You don't work here anymore?"

"Oh hey Masai. Didn't notice you there. I'm just making some calls. I gotta call Dougie and put his name on the new article about how efficient we are when Andrea Bargnani is on the floor. I stayed here all night writing it up."

"Bryan, I-"

"And take a look at this! That right there is the mail." Bryan interrupted, holding a handful of letters. "Now let's talk about the mail. Can we talk about the mail, please, Masai? I've been dying to talk about the mail with you all day, okay? Pepe Silvia. This name keeps coming up over and over again. Every day, Pepe's mail is getting sent back to me. Pepe Silvia. Pepe Silvia. I look in the mail, well THIS WHOLE BOX IS PEPE SILVIA! So I say to myself, I gotta find this guy. I gotta go up to his office. I gotta put his mail in the guy's goddamn hands otherwise he's never gonna get it. He's gonna keep coming back down here. So I go up to Pepe's office and what do I find out, man? What do I find out? There is no Pepe Silvia. The man does not exist! Okay. so I decided, ohhhhh shit, buddy. I gotta dig a little deeper. There's no Pepe Silvia? You gotta be kidding me. I got boxes full of Pepe. Alright, so I start marching my way down to Carol in HR. And I knock on her door and I say "CAAAAAAROL. CAAAAAAAAAAAROL. I gotta talk to you about Pepe." And when I open the door, wha' do I find? There's not a single goddamn desk in that office! THERE. IS. NO. CAROL IN HR. Masai, half the employees in this building have been made up. This office is a goddamn ghost town."

Masai, getting annoyed, replied, "OK, Bryan I'm going to have to stop you right there. Not only do all of these people exist, but they've been asking for their mail on a daily basis. It's all they're talking about up there. Jesus Christ, dude you need some help. You know you don't work here anymore. Find another job."

"Oh, get a job? Just get a job? Why don't I strap on my job helmet and squeeze down into a job cannon and fire off into job land, where jobs grow on little jobbies?!”

"Security!!" yelled Masai, as Bryan was dragged away by a couple of men out of the office. As he sat down on his leather chair, Masai contemplated looking at the team's roster on his computer. He knew he had a lot more work to do in order to make the team relevant again. "What a mess that psycho made," he muttered to himself. He made a few phone calls looking for offers for Landry Fields to no avail, then left for the Casino Rama, where the Raptors would be holding an intra squad game in the same afternoon.

Masai was standing on the end of the bench when he asked one of the coaches where Austin Daye was. He was told that Daye missed the intrasquad game as he was placed on a stretcher and taken to hospital earlier after attempting a push up before the game.

"KYLE!! KYLE!!! Lob it!! Im streaking!! Im streaking," yelled Rudy Gay on what seemed like an easy fastbreak opportunity.

Kyle, looking like he could care less whether Rudy could catch it in mid-air, dunk it and what not, made a half-assed pass. The ball ended up getting stuck between the rim and the backboard. "Oh shit, you gotta get that Kyle. You threw it all the way up there nigga."

"What do you mean, in case you didn't notice I'm a motherfucking dwarf. So unless you got 10 foot pole or something you do it yourself." Kyle fired back at Rudy.

Rudy was getting sick of Kyle barking at his face ever since he got in Toronto. "That figures. You want all kind of set-asides. Special treatment 'cause you're handicapped. You're all the same."

"Special treatment? I'm 3-foot-fucking-tall you asshole! It's a matter of physics. Draw me a sketch of how I get that ball up there, huh? Sketch it up, you fucking moron. Fucking Leonardo da Vinci." Lowry continued.

"What did you call me thigh-high?"

"I called you a fucking guinea homo from the 15th-fucking-century, you dickhead!" Lowry was on fire running his mouth to Rudy. Demar, getting sick of Kyle as well, chimed in, "Hey I'll do it" as he leapt up and tipped the ball.

On the next possession, DJ Augustin, the Raptors back up point guard, was bringing the ball up. Rudy and Kyle were still on the other side of the court, barking insults at each other. "Hey, hey hey I'm open," Demar yelled at the top of his lungs. "I'm on fire I made one shot." Augustin, still puzzled by the idea that making one shot suddenly makes you on fire in-game, dumped it nonetheless to a wide open Demar as Rudy and Kyle continued yelling at each other on one side of the court. Demar then proceeded to brick a 20-footer with no man in front of him while Rudy and Kyle were throwing punches at each other. Watching Rudy and Kyle exchange blows, Psycho-T got into it as well and started punching everybody else for no reason. The crowd booed as Jonas, who finally got the ball for the first time in the game, ran on the wrong end of the court for a dunk, then afterwards screamed "WICTORY BABY!!" At the end of the team's bench, Masai stood quietly, covering his face from the embarrassment that he is now responsible for.

Raptors Drop Home Opener to Celtics in Rondo's return

Though he was a bit rusty shooting the rock (3-11 FG), Rajon Rondo's return to the Celtics lineup was well received by new coach Brad Stevens as he helped the Celtics spoil the Toronto Raptors' home opener last night. Rondo was back to his old self, hounding Kyle Lowry and forcing him to turn the ball over 7 times. Former Raptor Kris Humphries added 19 pts, 7 reb for the Celtics, while DeMar DeRozan scored 19 to lead Toronto (8 of them coming in the opening quarter). Raptors' team ambassador, Drake, was at the game last night, hired as part of a massive offseason staff overhaul done by MLSE executive Tim Leiweke.

Despite Lou Williams pouring in 29 points (6-14 3PT), the Atlanta Hawks couldn't handle Rudy Gay (32 pts, 10 reb) and the Toronto Raptors last night at the Philips Arena. The Raptors, trailing for most of the first half, took a 62-57 lead with a minute to go in the third quarter. Gay's jumper ignited an 8-0 run for Toronto heading into the final period. DeMar DeRozan knocked down a 3 pointer from the corner to extend the lead to 88-74 with 2 minutes to play. Williams and Teague both hit threes down the stretch to cut Toronto's lead 90-85 but it was a case of too little too late for Atlanta. Amir Johnson had 4 pts, 4 reb and 5 blks for Toronto, while Al Horford added 12 points and 9 boards for the Hawks.

LeBron James scored 38 points, 5 in a late run by Miami in the last minute of the game as the Heat held on 99-92 to victory against the Toronto Raptors. James, who had 15 in the 3rd period, shot an efficient 15-25 from the field. Miami took a 4-2 lead to open the game and never looked back. But the Raptors were right in their heels throughout the game as a pair of three pointers from Rudy Gay and Kyle Lowry got the Raptors within 3, 90-87. Lowry tied the game at 92 with a driving layup over Shane Battier, to which Miami answered with a 7-0 run to end the game. DeMar DeRozan led Toronto with 28 pts, 6 reb. The Heat led by as much as 13 during the third quarter, holding a 72-59 advantage at one point.

Kemba Walker (12-12 FT) led the way for the Bobcats with 25 pts as he helped his team to their 2nd win of the season in 5 games. Charlotte, who led by as much as 18 midway in the third quarter, held a 79-63 lead with just under 3 minutes to play in the third when the Raptors went on a 22-5 run to end the quarter, capped by a 3 from Rudy Gay as the Raptors took an 85-84 lead heading into the fourth. But the Bobcats were able to regain the lead back on a layup by Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to start the 4th. The Raptors had a final chance to send it to overtime after Walker missed a jumper with 14 secs left in the game, but Rudy Gay clanked a couple of threes in the last possession for Toronto.

It was much of the same for the Raptors last night as the Pacers blitzed on a 22 point lead early in the second quarter. The Raptors played catch up for most of the first 3 quarters, much like their game against the Bobcats. Except, this time, they woke up in the right time. Toronto, trailing 93-81 with 4 minutes to play, went on an 18-2 run to win their second game of the season. DeMar DeRozan sparked the run knocking down a fadeaway jumper at the end of the clock, a driving layup over Danny Granger and finding DJ Augustin at the top of the key for a wide open 3. Rudy Gay led the Raptors with 28 points, converting a three-point play dunk on the fastbreak to give Toronto a 96-95 lead with 40 secs to go. Kyle Lowry hit a long 3 with 12.5 secs in the game clock, his 5th in the game, to seal the win for the Raptors. Paul George committed his 6th foul early in the fourth period and his absence was greatly felt as Indiana's offense only produced 10 points in the closing quarter.

The Jazz continued their dismal start to the season, losing their 4th straight as they dropped one to the Raptors last night. Rudy Gay scored 29 pts for Toronto, while Terrence Ross came off the bench and added 14 pts, 8 reb as the Toronto Raptors clinched their first back to back wins of the season. The Raptors started strong with an 8-0 run to start the game and limited Utah to 8-22 from the field in the second quarter. Toronto led for most of the game, as Utah took the lead only once (during the third quarter). With the Jazz on top 59-55, the Raptors finished the quarter on a 13-2 run, capped by a fastbreak layup from Terrence Ross to end the quarter. Gay then did most of his damage in the fourth, as he scored 11 points to open the quarter where the Raptors took a 93-74 advantage and never looked back. Jonas Valanciunas had 12 pts, 8 reb and 2 blk while Kyle Lowry added 9 pts, 10 ast for the Raptors.

The Toronto Raptors have shut down Landry Fields indefinitely as he continues to rehab a strained hamstring. He is Day-to-Day. Fields suffered the injury against the Hawks on Nov 1. Toronto activated Julyan Stone and Steve Novak in place of Fields and Austin Daye, who was sent to the inactive list after a disappointing 6 game stint, for tomorrow's game against the Jazz.(Read more)

Harden surpasses 5000th point milestone in victory over Raptors

James Harden had 32 pts and 10 reb as the Houston Rockets blew out the Toronto Raptors, 109-96. Harden didn't need much help from Dwight Howard (10 pts, 8 reb) as the star swingman helped the Rockets open the game with guns ablaze, putting up 32 in the opening quarter while Howard sat out most of the first half stuck in foul trouble. Toronto couldn't get any closer than 11 points in the fourth period, where they got 9 points from second-string point guard DJ Augustin on 3 three-pointers. Aaron Brooks added 11 pts for Houston while Amir Johnson notched his first double double of the season (10 pts, 10 reb). Part of the Raptors' struggles came from DeRozan who missed all 12 of his shots from the field in the game.

Mike Conley had 19 points and ignited a 25-11 third quarter for the Memphis Grizzlies as they spoiled Rudy Gay's return to Tennessee since being traded to Toronto last season, 92-80. The Raptors blew an early 14 point lead that they built in the first half, and found themselves down by 8 at the start of the fourth quarter thanks to a Grizzlies run. Gay, however, turned in an incredible individual performance as he scored 29 pts (5-6 3PT) and added 2 blk. Gay went 4-4 behind the arc in the first quarter to help the Raptors take a 6 point lead.

It was the same old story for the Raptors as they blew another double digit lead, dropping one at home to the Chicago Bulls. Derrick Rose scored 33 pts and grabbed 4 reb to lead Chicago to win. The Bulls started slow, and found themselves down by as much as 13 before the fourth period. Chicago then went on a blitz in the final period, as the Raptors let the Bulls back in the game giving up 33 pts in the fourth quarter. Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan had 25 apiece for Toronto.

Rudy Gay sank a clutch three pointer with the game tied at 97 to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 105-101 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Kyle Lowry added 18 points and 8 assists as Toronto improved to a 4-7 record. The Raptors led at the end of the first half, taking a 53-59 advantage into the third period. But Portland kept fighting back and opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 blitz to put themselves on top, 84-83. Toronto responded with a 6-0 run as both teams traded baskets until Damian Lillard converted a fastbreak dunk to give the Blazers a 93-91 edge. The Blazers then struggled from then on as they only made 2 field goals in the last 3 minutes of the game.

Tony Wroten (16 pts, 7-10 FG) hit a go-ahead three pointer for the 76ers with 55 seconds left in the game to send the Toronto Raptors to their 8th loss of the season with a 96-93 win in Philadelphia. Wroten hit only the 4th trey in the game for the Sixers but it was important nonetheless as they spoiled a late Raptors rally which saw their 10 point lead trimmed to two with two minutes remaining. The Raptors rode Kyle Lowry's hot shooting (8-12 FG, 4-5 3PT) but found themselves playing catchup again in the fourth as they blew an early 9 point lead in the first half. Toronto, who had the ball in the last possession, had the chance to send the game to overtime but Rudy Gay missed a potential game tying three at the buzzer. Jonas Valanciunas had 14 pts, 13 reb for the Raptors.

Kyle Lowry had 11 pts, 8 reb and 6 ast (4-11 FG, 1-6 3PT) as he led the struggling Raptors past the Wizards, 101-100. Lowry converted a game winning layup on the break with 9.8 seconds to play past John Wall and over Trevor Ariza. The Raptors trailed by 7 heading into the fourth when they went on a 22-11 run thanks to Lowry's hustle, who grabbed a season high 8 rebounds. The Raptors got their first taste of the lead in the second half with a 90-88 advantage when DeMar DeRozan tied the game with a layup cleaning up a miss by Rudy Gay (10-27 FG) and Jonas Valanciunas converted a putback of his own on a misfire by Lowry. But the Wizards were not going down easy as Nene and Bradley Beal ignited an 8-0 run of their own, capped by a dunk from John Wall. They took a 100-96 lead heading into the last minute of play until Rudy Gay went to work, sinking a fadeaway 3 to cut the lead to 1. Wall clanked off a 3 pointer at the buzzer to win the game.

Raptors 5-on-5: Rudy Gay's bricks and Kyle Lowry's hot shooting

The Toronto Raptors have been under-achieving lately, sitting last on the Atlantic Division and losing some winnable games over the Grizzlies and Sixers the past week. ESPN's 5-on-5 crew takes a look at some reasons as to why the Raptors continue their futility despite a capable roster, and some positive stuff to look out for.

1. Rudy Gay keeps throwing up bricks - 10-27, 6-27, 10-21, 12-25, 9-21, 9-23, 7-18, 7-16. Those are Rudy Gay's shooting numbers in all the Raptors' losses this season. And he's already attempted a team leading 269 field goals. The wins aren't that pretty either.

2. Terrible shot distribution - Maybe Dwane Casey's playbook is full of doodles. Every time Kyle Lowry brings the ball up the court, the Raptors go into their boring set of endless screens by a big on the left or right wing trying to get DeRozan and Gay open. Then once these two get the ball they get to do their own thing for the rest of the possession. Or when Kyle fails to make the entry pass, he ends up taking it all by himself. 269, 211, 114 - shot attempts by Gay, DeRozan and Lowry this season respectively. The next one on the list? 68 (Jonas Valanciunas)

3. Just too much Rudy Gay really - Rudy Gay's usage rate - 39.0. That's even more than what Kevin Durant (30.0) has this season. And Rudy Gay is no Kevin Durant of course. (Gay leads the league in usage rate by the way.)

4. Lowry can keep shooting behind the arc, he's on fire in fact. But he needs to drive as well - Before last night's game against the Wizards, Kyle Lowry was 14-22 from behind the arc in the last six games. But what about those layups, huh? Lowry made a total of 24 shots over the same span - only 10 made shots inside the arc.

5. The case for making Julyan Stone a regular rotation player - The Raptors score 3 more points when Julyan Stone is on the floor than when he is not.

DeMar DeRozan (28 pts, 7 reb, 5 ast, 10-17 FG, 8-8 FT) had his all-around game on display last night as the Toronto Raptors cooled off a red-hot Brooklyn Nets team, 106-101. DeRozan started off hot, going 6-10 from the field in the first half and had 26 points after 3 quarters. DeRozan scored most of the Raptors' points in the third (9 of 27) as they struggled shooting the ball coming out of halftime. The Raptors continued their slump in the fourth quarter missing their first 7 shots until Kyle Lowry hit a 3 to put Toronto up 82-79. However, the Brooklyn Nets failed to capitalise on the Raptors' cold shooting as they were cold themselves going 0-6 in the first 3 minutes of the quarter, no thanks to off nights from Paul Pierce (4-13 FG) and Joe Johnson (10-25 FG). Kyle Lowry hit 6 consecutive free throws in the last minute as Toronto pulled away late in the game for the victory. Jonas Valanciunas had 12 pts, 9 reb for the Raptors while Tyler Hansbrough came off the bench to add 10 pts, 7 reb. Raptors' second string guard Julyan Stone left the game early with an ankle sprain and will miss Friday's game vs the Heat.

Nate Robinson had 50 pts (30 in the first half) but his huge scoring effort couldn't lead the slumping Denver Nuggets to a victory over the Toronto Raptors. Robinson, who shot 12-20 from the field in the first half, struggled in the second half. He missed his first six shots and went 2-12 in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Kyle Lowry led the Raptors with 18 pts, 7 reb, 7 ast before fouling out with 2:14 in the game to play. Robinson's 30 point first half helped the Nuggets take a 56-51 lead to halftime but the Raptors responded letting Robinson shoot his way out of the game while outrebounding the Nuggets, 51-41. Rudy Gay had 21 points for the Raptors while Jonas Valanciunas chipped in a double double performance with 12 pts, 12 reb.

Steph Curry (37 pts, 6 ast, 6-12 3PT, 7-7 FT) continued his push for a spot at the All-Star team as he led his Golden State Warriors in their trashing of the Toronto Raptors last night. Curry, who found himself open for most of the game, made everything look easy as he dropped 21 in the first half alone. The Warriors came out of the gates firing on all cylinders as they put up 32 points in the first quarter. They finished the game connecting on 16 of 34 shots from downtown. Even the Warriors' bench had the hot hand as Kent Bazemore added 16 pts (14 in the 4th quarter) while the Raptors could not get anything going in the latter part of the game. 'Twas the night before the Warriors game. The Raptors were staying in a hotel in San Francisco. Our Rudy Gay had a dream which went something like...

The Devil was hanging around Memphis, basking in the glory of Graceland, and sustaining himself with the still lingering scent of banana-peanut butter sandwiches fried in two sticks of butter. Rudy Gay found him there as a young rookie. And yes our Rudy sold his soul for the sake of a maxed-out contract.

Now it didn't take long for Rudy to realize that it wasn't enough. He went back to the Devil and complained that nobody thought he was worth the money. "Can you find me one person that appreciates my abilities enough to see my contract as worthwhile?"

"Sure. But you already sold me your soul. What else have you got to give? You're getting to be a big pain in the ass", said the Devil. After some thought he decided he would send him off to Canada, where Rudy would be constantly reminded that he was a soulless motherfucker. "Bryan Colangelo will appreciate your abilities, but you will know many cold days in the hell that is Toronto. With nothing of any significance for you to see there, you will be forced to look inward, and the darkness of your soulless being will fall upon you. You will have Kyle Lowry insisting that he is like your brother. He will follow you everywhere. And the music of Drake will flood your ears."

Rudy took the deal. He could fight through the numbing cold. He could handle Kyle being in his face all the time. He could accept the darkness within himself. He had his abilities, and he would have Bryan Colangelo appreciating them. He would even be welcomed as "that fucking guy" up in that wintery wasteland. Bring on the Drake tunes, he thought. But the darkness within him began to dim his eyesight. He was not seeing the rim properly. His abilities were becoming diminished. And Bryan Colangelo got fired. It was starting to feel like a raw deal. He texted the Devil with his complaints. The Devil just wanted to be like the rest of the NBA at this point, and forget about Rudy Gay forever.

"OK. Fix ur eyes with laser surgery. Then look upon the face of Landry's newborn child. The godchild will B mine in return for your restored abilities."

But God himself intercepted this text, with the help of the NSA. He could not let this stand. He called upon his mightiest archangel, Michael, and sent him off to smite the Devil. And smote him he did. He found the Devil lazing in the Jungle room. He crammed every tastless piece of kitsch, all the items of nostalgia, all the garish furniture, the whole contents of the place, down the Devil's throat, and then smashed him open like hitchhiker Kai on a rampage. All of Graceland spilled out of the Devil like candy from a pinata. Oddly enough nobody would be able to tell that anything happened to the place, such is the wonder of God. But the Devil would forever suffer from double vision.

When it came time to ensure that Rudy's abilities were restored, the Devil saw Rudy's number 22 when looking upon Landry's number 2. All of Gay's abilities were transferred to Fields. God was pleased, but went further, and took it upon himself to have Landry's ineptitude visited upon Rudy Gay himself for the duration of his contract, thus forcing him to accept a buyout offer that included little more than free cable for a year. God recalled that Landry was meant to come to Toronto hand in hand with Steve Nash. So he gave Landry Fields all the talents that Steve Nash possessed as well as a strained hamstring to keep him out for a month. Toronto would be the NBA promise land. The team would be rebranded as the Toronto Snow Angels. The child of Landry Fields would be the second coming of Jesus. Elvis wept.

The LA Lakers used a 40 point third quarter effort to defeat the Toronto Raptors, 120-113. Kobe Bryant led the charge for Los Angeles, scoring 33 pts while Nick Young added 31 pts as the Lakers notched their 13th victory of the season in 20 games. The Raptors struggled initiating their offense in the third quarter, only launching 15 shots from the field while allowing the Lakers to make 16 of their 22 attempts. Rudy Gay had 23 pts on 9-26 shooting from the field and had 3 turnovers just in the third quarter, as the Lakers pulled away with a 33-15 run to close the quarter. Toronto responded by opening the fourth period with a 18-5 run, led by a couple of threes from Steve Novak and Kyle Lowry. DeMar DeRozan's layup capped off the run to trim the lead 97-92 but the Raptors were unable to pull themselves closer. The Raptors' frontcourt combination of Amir Johnson (12 pts, 7 reb, 3 blk), Jonas Valanciunas (7 pts, 10 reb, 2 blk) and Tyler Hansbrough (2 pts, 11 reb) outrebounded the Lakers' starting 5.

Ujiri shakes up roster with blockbuster 4 team deal

A four-team trade that would send Mirza Teletovic and PJ Tucker to the Toronto Raptors is complete, multiple sources told ESPN on Thursday night. A source with direct knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com's Marc Stein the Raptors will receive Teletovic and Tucker, the Phoenix Suns will acquire Dwight Buycks, the Nets will receive Aaron Gray and Quincy Acy and a draft pick from the Raptors, and the Warriors will receive Austin Daye. The Raptors also will acquire Festus Ezeli, a source told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard. The draft pick that the Nets will be receiving is a 2nd rounder from the Raptors (2014).

DeMar DeRozan had 29 pts, Rudy Gay added 17 pts and 11 reb as the Toronto Raptors avenged a nailbiting loss in Charlotte last month with a victory over the Bobcats last night. Kyle Lowry had 23 pts, 6 reb, 6 ast for Toronto as they improved to a 9-14 win-loss record. The Raptors established a huge lead early in the first half and never looked back as they led by as much as 20 and never fell behind since late in the first period. Charlotte was able to trim the deficit to 10, 90-80, with 2 mins to play in the game thanks to an 11-1 run sparked by Ramon Sessions, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Al Jefferson, but DeMar DeRozan answered with a layup and a 18-footer to push the lead to 14 as the Bobcats would never score again. Tyler Hansbrough suffered a strained MCL in the game and left early. He will be reevaluated as the Raptors fly to Dallas for their matchup on Friday night.

Devin Harris (34 pts, 13-20 FG, 4-7 3PT) had a vintage performance Friday night, as helped the Dallas Mavericks hold onto victory against the Toronto Raptors with a 113-111 win. The Raptors, who never led in the second half, slumped to their 15th loss in 24 games as big nights from Rudy Gay (31 pts, 7 reb) and Kyle Lowry (20 pts, 8 reb, 13 ast) weren't enough to get them the victory. Gay hit a long jumper from the corner to trim the deficit to 111-108 and then hit a 3 a couple of feet away from the top of the key to tie the game. But the Raptors fouled on the next possession on their attempt to get the steal as DeMar DeRozan sent Monta Ellis to the line to ice the game. On the next possession, the Mavericks defended Gay well as he was unable to launch a shot and the Raptors could not send the game to overtime.
