Live 04 CD Key problems with used game?

Wed Jul 21, 2004 11:19 pm

Whats up guys, I was purchasing a new copy of Live 04 for PC at my local EB last night, and the guy asked if I'd rather have a used copy for a few bucks cheaper. I figured why not, so I got it, but when I tried to install the game, it would not accept the CD Key on the back of the cd case.

It kept telling me it was invalid, etc, but I copied it straight off there a hundred times.

Do you think its because its used, so it may not let you validate the same copy on another machine? I considered that idea, but it didn't appear to be accessing the internet to verify the code, it just gave me an error message as soon as I hit enter.
Do you think this would be fixed if I returned it for a new (unused) copy?

I'm going to head to EB after work, but I wanted to make sure there was nothing else I could do before driving all the way over there.

Anyone know why that may be?
Thanks in advance!

Just by the new copy.

Thats what I figured, I should have just done that originally, but he pulled out a used one for like 5 bucks at the last minute, so I said sure why not.

I have to go over there anyways to pick up NFL2k5, so might as well just exchange and pay the extra 5 bucks.

I'll probably pick up a gamepad for my computer while I'm there as well.
Any recomendations?
I'm leaning towards the Logitech Dual Action if they have it there, it seems pretty good from what I've read.

I just read some horror stories on nbalive.org's forum about the Logitech, about the analog sticks going dead after a few days? That didn't sound very appealing.
:?
I'm sure there's probably topics on this here but I only saw the one on the first page.

Yea I'm usually a Madden guy, but I figured I'd give 2k5 a shot for 20 bucks. A little change of pace.

First: DON'T BUY the Logitech Dual Action. It will break in few weeks/months depending if you're lucky or not...but it will eventually break sooner or later.

Second: One explanation for you problem with the key on the CD case is that the guy at the store gave you a CD and put it in a CD Case that was not the original one for that CD. Ask if he's got another used copy and see if you can switch the case..maybe that guy messed it up.
If not..ask for a refund...walk away pissed off...and go buy your new copy at another store..it should be under $20

The Saitek P880 is a very good controller to have.

I'm gonna have to definately DISAGREE with the logitech contoller thing! I haven't a clue why people would say that?!? I have two of them on two different computers. One of them gets used all the time with no ill effects so far. I've had it since it was first released. The other gets used about half as much but works great!

I had heard that Logitechs first batch of the controllers were bad but thats just what I had read about. Make up your own mind but I've had GREAT luck with these controllers. The nice thing is that the buttons are already set to mirror the PS controllers!
