NBA Live 14 vs NBA 2K14 sizes

Postby beegees on Sat Nov 09, 2013 11:37 pm

I guess you know what happened today leaked on Xbox One, leaked to the web screens sizes games.
So:
NBA Live 14 - only 9 GB
NBA 2K14 - 43 (!) GB

Why the difference? Does that NBA Live 14 is worse?
I have a theory that 2K recorded many cut-scenes, and their latest news about the interview during the breaks ... Perhaps because of this?
I will pre-order NBA Live 14 - A series of my childhood in the old memory I will play. Latest news on Live pleased me ...

Remember, they said MyGM is like a whole game in itself. 2K has a lot of content, I can see it being around 40 gigs.

There's obviously a lot of extra content in NBA 2K14 that would naturally increase the game size and it looks aesthetically superior. As far as the gameplay experience itself is concerned, ignoring all the bells and whistles, the size of the game on the disc is irrelevant.

Madde25 - 12gb
Fifa14 is 8gb
Live - 9gb
All Ea sports titles are around the same size.

I think also important is the game engine structure, ability to compress it, not only content

2K probably left as much as possible uncompressed, from textures, animations and audio files.

EA most likely compressed like they normally do, and it's probably something they have done during compiling. Remember the large jpeg renders of Live recently released? The lettermark of the Cavs jersey shows compression artifacts on its border.

Keep in mind that compression not only reduces the data size of the game, but in many cases it also improves loading times because they are uncompressed on the fly by hardware or that todays processors are so powerful that there is little to no overhead in the time it takes to decompress versus reading the uncompressed file from the hard drive or disc.
