Talk about NBA 2K14 here.

Hi All!
I'm playing 2k13 with my laptop:
Intel i7 Quad
nvidia 640M 1gb
8gb RAM
Win 8
here it comes my biggest problem: if I play with vsync on it' very smooth....if I play with vsync off there's a sort of micro stutter (randomly). It's not that's unplaybale is just annoying ^_^
Now the problem is that I really like the feel and player response when vsync is off.......with vsync on there is sort of delay between commands and player response....any suggestion about solving the micro-lag when vsync in off?
Thx

Your post is a little confusing, but I'm assuming that you mean it's smoother without vsync, and the lag occurs when vsync is on (which is perfectly normal), is that correct? Vsync is basically only used to make sure that your fps doesn't exceed your refresh rate, thus not causing the screen tearing issue (which I personally can't stand), but unfortunately it tends to make the games a bit laggy and less responsive. Have you already tried enabling triple buffering via your Nvidia control panel? That usually helps with that issue. You can also try "adaptive vsync" if your card supports it, also via the Nvidia control panel.

I gather he has frame rate fluctuatinos with vsync off, but good response with the controls, but with vsync on, the frame rate is smooth, yet there is a delay in the controller responsiveness.
Go into your nvidia control panel and set pre render frames ahead to something less than 3. Turn v sync on. If there is still a delay, set it lower. You should be able to remove the controller delay while keeping the frames smooth.

Pdub got it right I'm dl latest NVidia drivers...

ok I've make two different run's with the latest drivers and two different screen (DELL U2413 and a Samsung 22 inch TV screen):
RUN 1:
pre rendered frames:3
vsync:0ff
triple buffer:on
result: very nice responsive controls...a little tearing/lag when camera moves...but overall acceptable....RUN 2:
pre rendered frames:1
vsync:on
triple buffer:off
result: very very smoth from the graphics side.....control is tight but not as tight as the first run with vsync offboth screen response was good and I didn't notice any differences....

I think I found my "nirvana settings" with current laptop I'm playing this game.
-Vsync on
-frame skipping 1 (nvidia panel)
-triple buffer off
no graphics lag...game smooth as hell...and controls are really really tight....
with everythint at max level of detail

Glad you found something that works for you, but just as a tip, enabling triple buffering won't do anything if you're not enabling vsync in the first place (for the first try that you did). Ideally, if you want to avoid screen tearing but also want to avoid the lack of responsiveness that comes with vsync, you would want to crank up other settings that are gonna drop your fps just enough to be below your refresh rate and never really make you go over it.

nah...with my my laptop I won't go without vsync
-Vsync on
-frame skipping 1 (nvidia panel)
-triple buffer off
that's the way to go on this specific machine (nvidia optimius powered).....turning vsync off create just too much lag....

What is frame skipping?

sorry it was: number of pre-rendered frames from nvidia panel

On my 650M SLI setup (Lenovo y500), I had to turn vsync off in-game and change vsync in the Nvidia control panel to On (Smooth). Game runs perfectly at 60fps (no dips or increases) and controls are very responsive. The point is, you need to play with different settings to find what works for your specific setup. My recommendation, turn off vsync in-game since its horribly implemented by 2k.

So badman....suppose that your rig is running the game at 120fps...do you need a 120hz screen to "avoid" tearing?

I can honestly say yes, unless you enable v sync. I had a 60hz hdtv that would tear like crazy, even with v sync on sometimes. My 120hz monitor has zero tearing. The smoothness is oh so sweet, too.

I still get some tearing whenever fps exceeds 120hz, but for the most part, yes it avoids most of the tearing and you don't even have to reduce your performance by having to enable vsync.

Hi all!
I try it with this settings:
-Vsync on
-frame skipping 1 (nvidia panel)
-triple buffer off
then i cahnge tripple buffer on, frame skipping 1, vsync off, then frame skippping 3 , but always same, in the start the game very smooth then later after 6 min start stuttering, why?
Maybe becasue the driver? i downloaded the newest driver then driver from 2013 october but same always:( PLS hlep me guys
