Talk about NBA 2K14 here.

Most people are probably aware of the issue of CPU controlled players leaving their man open on the three point line far too often. I'm creating this thread so that the discussion doesn't overrun the general impressions thread.
Feel free to vent if you must, but since solutions regarding the sliders and defensive settings have been suggested, it would be far more productive to discuss and try to fine tune those solutions. So, go ahead and post your suggestions and results here.

"Next Gen", the version of the game made for hardware inferior to mid range PC's, has the answer to this. It's "Lens Flare!"

As said in other threads, just download a roster with original coaching profiles and it is fixed.

This might be tedious but the people who are 'pro' the game seem to do it: guard the ball handler/receiver using the quick switch change player on defense. Once the ball is passed by the cpu press the pass button so the player you are controlling on D will automatically be changed to your player closest to the ball handler.

This is some bullshit. Really. The game is just broken. I wish this bug was fixed by 2K so that I didn't have to switch to players I don't want to guard and the stupid coach profiles and sliders and game settings are all broken.
But I'm going to keep playing the game so I can be frustrated until 2K fixes this. LEFTOS fix this. I hope they read this and fix it. You guys really think this game is worth playing? It would be if they fix it. Do you guys know any basketball sim game where they don't defend you at the three point line? I do not. I hope they fix this. Do you guys have solutions? Don't post them because I'll try them and they won't work because the game is broken. It is a MAJOR bug and it needs fixing. I don't understand you guys keep playing it when it's obviously broken.

you think your sarcams is funny? oh jesus...
anyway problem is that F'N OPPOSITION PLAYERS LEAVE MY PLAYERS OPEN! not opposite!
if you score 55 pts in 1/4 on 9minutes period on Hall Of Fame with hitting almost 20 threes with 80% shooting and you say or think or whatever that this is no problem, then you and me have nothing to talk about
Fri Oct 18, 2013 5:43 am
Does this happen even with the proper coaching profiles? Give me as much information as possible so I can propagate it to the proper people in the team. And yes, I am keeping track of any and all community-reported bugs. You have my word on that.

i dont know about proper coaching profiles,i have that one who comes with default game..
i see that few guys mentioned that with new rosters, coaching attributes was reseting everything on 50,thats why i didnt test it

Some questions:
- Does it happen on any and all difficulty settings?
- Does it happen on HUMvsCPU as well as CPUvsCPU?
- Do both teams' defenders do that?
- Does it happen on default sliders?
- Does it happen on default coaching profiles (not the all 50 ones)?
- Any particular teams that you see this happen with more often?

-Yes, I play on Hall of Fame and the same thing happens
-It happens when I play CPU, CPU will hardly guard the 3 point line. They come up 2-3 meters away and just relax until I shoot. Take your player, go to the 3 point line and let go of your controller. CPU will come up and relax 2-3 meters away and do nothing. They don't pressure you, don't try to steal the ball. Does nothing. I can go take a shit and come back and my guy will still have the ball and cpu is still just chilling!
-The same thing happens, when cpu comes up to the 3 point line, my defender just goes up and chill 2-3 meter away too
-Yes, on default sliders. You can also adjust the sliders all you want and shit happens. I have 3 point set to 0. When I shoot, it gets an air ball but the defender still just comes up and chill.
-U can adjust coach setting all you want, I put on-ball pressure to 100 and nothing happens. I even increased a player's on-ball rating to 100 and no change.
-It happens on all team, you can play against the heat and the same thing happens
Now this doesn't happen with 2k13. In 2k13, you feel the ball pressure and they guard you really tight on the 3 point line. They are both essentially are the same game. The only difference, I found is that in 2k14, they did drastic changes on player's tendencies. In 2k13, most of the players tendencies for "hard fouls" are really high, above 60. In 14, they decreased a lot of players to 20 only. In 2k13, most of the players tendency for "take charge" is really low, like in the 20. In 14, they are really high in the 60-70s.

- Does it happen on any and all difficulty settings? I play on superstar and I know it does
- Does it happen on HUMvsCPU as well as CPUvsCPU? honestly cant say because Im just playing mc right now
- Do both teams' defenders do that? no my team is a more drive or post up team
- Does it happen on default sliders? yes
- Does it happen on default coaching profiles (not the all 50 ones)?yes
- Any particular teams that you see this happen with more often? I see it with more 3 pts teams suns timberwolves ect I see it a lot when certain teams pass the ball around the perimeter and a defender slide over a little leaving a good 3 point shooter wide open
I think it has something to do with the playcalling

completly same thing,so i don't have to write it all over

I changed "go for on ball steals" to 75 (both pc and cpu) and it got better a little bit. It also depends on the defensive abilities of the player who is guarding the shooter. E.g. don't expect S. Nash to play some "The Glove" like defense.
And finally, as shadowgrin already said: switch to the shooter and guard him by yourself.
All in all it's not perfect, but it works well enough for me.
Edit: Also turned "help defense strenght" to 75.

ok thought i was just playing bad D
they kept shooting 12+ 3 pointers in 5 mIn qtrs
and hit over 50% every time
what I am doing is Putting
CPU 3 Point Tendency = 25
CPU 3 Point Rating = 25
Hopefully this will chill them out with the 3's
also the idea of help D increase did that help?

I haven't seen much of this but I always changed my controller over to the CPU and set their defensive matchups against my team then play as my team with my own defensive matchups.
With the individual settings (sag off/deny ball) I have not had much of an issue. Everything appears true to reality for me.
Sat Oct 19, 2013 5:10 am
In defensive strategy (click left arrow on dpad on gameplay) pick "pressure shooters" option and you won't have this problem.
Sat Oct 19, 2013 5:16 am
but how to solve problem for opposition team? they are not guarding me
Sat Oct 19, 2013 7:15 am
You might want to try increasing the CPU "contest shots" tendency - I have it at 70 and it looks ok. If it's not enough, raise it further and/or increase their defensive awareness as well. Gotta say though, the CPU wasn't leaving me open THAT much to begin with - some people are even saying it happens on every single possession. I'm playing on the starting roster with default coach profiles though, if that has anything to do with the issue.
To fix your own players sagging off, set "deny ball" defense on every good outside shooter on the other team. If you set "play tight", the defender will still sag off. "Deny" makes them more or less act as if they're told to play tight - they won't really deny, but they will quit leaving the shooter wide open.

Also Coach Profiles > Run Plays = 100
Take 3pt Shots = 25
PHI made 1/3 instead of 7/15 last time i played them

1/3 in one game has what kind of statistical significance?
Sun Oct 20, 2013 9:35 pm
Can't you fix it by putting play tight or deny ball on the players you don't want left open in the defensive settings menu?
Mon Oct 21, 2013 2:07 am
No that won't fix it imho. The problem seems more to be related to defensive help strenght.
Tue Oct 22, 2013 8:48 am
"Can't you fix it by putting play tight or deny ball on the players you don't want left open in the defensive settings menu?"
No, that does not address the problem. The player, even told to deny ball and play tight, leaves the shooter open at the 3PT line.
