The Official PC/PS360 NBA 2K14 Impressions Thread

i'm starting to notice some derpy rebound animations. The loose ball stuff is cool and all, but some of the animations lead to pretty hilariously failed rebounds. I had Deandre Jordan jump for an uncontested rebound off a missed free throw... the ball passed inches in front of his hands and he totally derped it and it went off his foot out of bounds.
Speaking of going off of his foot... there are way to many kick ball violations this year IMO.

Having played a few games, it feels like an improvement on last year - I certainly wouldn't say it's any worse - but I'm intending to spend a lot more time with the game before writing up a full review or drawing too many conclusions. It does seem like there are a few too many loose balls and interceptions though. The blocks are nice, it's certainly great to be able to block dunks again, but they also feel a bit too numerous.

A few times I have found myself shooting the ball accidentally upon holding the right stick down too long on a dribbling move, but it hasn't been as problematic as I thought it possibly could have been. It hasn't been much of a learning curve, in my opinion. I haven't tried playing with last year's controls as I've been comfortable enough with the Pro Stick; it's unfortunate that they've left moves out of that control scheme and hopefully they patch it for all three versions, but I'm fine with using the new controls.

Having played +50 games I just love it. I play it on all star with default sliders and Dr. J and Kareem Roster 1.0 rosters (Dr. J and Kareem Roster) <- [b]these rosters have the initial coach profles nba 2k14 had (2k's latest official rosters made all coach profile settings @50, which fucked the gameplay up.[/b]
Played Bulls vs Wizards today and I could really tell how AI adopted to my style of play. I was ahead +12 after 2qtr's but lost the game by two in a thrilling ending due to the fact that I did not change my style of play but cpu really picked up defense! Blocks and deflections might be over exaggerated, but I have never felt more rewarding playing the game on defense. For the first time it really feels that work/hustle on defense pays off and its fun!

The defenders don't guard the 3 point lines. They come up and stay about 1-2 meters away and leave your 3 pointer shooters open. You can just shoot three pointers all day.

I'm playing the Bobcats against the heat. I dribble up with Walker, pass to Henderson at the 3 point line, Wade comes up to guard him but stays 1-2 meters inside the 3 point line. I just shoot with Henderson, goes in. I come back again, pass the ball to Henderson at the 3 point line, Wade comes to guard him but stays 1-2 meters again, I shoot open shot again. It's so stupid. If you have the ball, just dribble a little pass the 3 point line, the defenders come up but stays 1-2 meters away, you just shoot. This makes the game unplayable!!!

There are two sliders that should help with that. Jumpshot defense strength or affectiveness for gather and release. We could reason 3s last year as well. Those sliders helped. On ball defense might help as well.

So far I haven't found myself being left open all that much, though I've seen that issue mentioned and am looking out for it. Like I said, I want to spend more time with the game before drawing too many conclusions.

There are two sliders that should help with that. Jumpshot defense strength or affectiveness for gather and release. We could reason 3s last year as well. Those sliders helped. On ball defense might help as well.

I have defense slider set to 100 for all, on-ball defense to 100, and set coach setting to 100 for on-ball pressure and still same problem. Defenders don't guard the 3 point line and it's not a slider issue or coach setting issue. CPU defenders will come and stay 1-2 meters away and just relax until you shoot. With 2k13, the defenders come right up to the shooter and guards him!

Check the coaching sliders. If on ball pressure is too low, they will sag off.

I'm starting to have fun now after 2 weeks of playing

It's amazing how expensive it is to boost your speed. I have something like 88 speed and it costs 2,000 points to upgrade just 1 point.

I still think the number of turnovers/fouls/kicked ball violations is absurd. If I had boosted my Free Throw skill I would've nearly doubled my PPG.

Yeah, after building up my MyPLAYER for over a season in NBA 2K13, it's been a bit of an adjustment to start over with low ratings again, while still trying to do all the same things I have been.

I cheat engined my way up to a 73 overall rating so I woudnt get pissed the fuck off by sucking so much at even the most basic stuff.

This is why Young, on the Lakers, scores over 30PPG in cpu v cpu games. I set defensive pressure on him to high, with and without the ball, set his shooting tendency and 3pt tendencies to 0, set the opposing coach tendencies regarding D to max, but still defenders stay away from Young and he jacks up 3's all game.

Try setting the sliders regarding defense backwards one by one. I have the feeling some of the sliders and tendencies might be reversed like how Run Plays in the Coach Profiles last year worked backwards in 2K13 where a lower Run Play value resulted in the cpu running more plays.

im so f****** frustrated with this..
opponents never guard none of my players behind 3 point line,im always getting open 3p shots!
so whats the point of playing the game then? when i can have on every offensive play clean open 3 point shot...how can they make such a huge bug?! did they even test the game before releasing it?! can we expect some patch or is it managable to fix this with changing sliders?

Yeah, 2k14. Defenders don't guard the 3 point lines! It's really annoying! Also 2k14 didn't even fix the championship bug! The team with the better standing still don't have home court advantage in the championship game! I bought the game, tested it out, and I'm staying with 2k13. If they release a patch to fix the 3 point issue or the championship bug then, I'll switch over

Bro, this might help you cause it helped. I've read this somewhere in OS. Lower your Defensive Assist in Controller Settings to 20 or to (I use - 0) and play in Hall of Fame difficulty. If you find it too hard, just adjust some sliders.

For the Champ thing, we'll have to wait for skoadam's URB in 2K14.

R u serious? I lowered it to 20, set defense to "Intense D" and they are guarding me really well on the 3 point line now. I can't barely get a 3 point off anymore. It's actually become very difficult to score on CPU now. It's such a a big improvement, that I totaling loving the game now!

how to set intense d for cpu? dont get this one?

Go to main menu, options, my controller, controller settings, scroll all the way down, set automatic shot contest to Intense-D, and lower defense assist strength to 20. I don't know why but that also adjust the defense for CPU as well! If you set automatic shot contest to "always" then defense contest every shot, which is stupid cause they will even go for pump fake.

This did it for me! The game is now awesome! I can't believe how good it got form just switching that! By far the best basketball game, I ever played!

Probably something to do with the Coach Sliders?

I just played as the Thunder v. Nuggets and I COULD NOT STOP Lawson driving the lane. He was torching Westbrook almost every time. When I did manage to force a missed shot, it seemed like McGee and Faried just got auto grabbed the offensive rebound. I find the AI is just downright ruthless sometimes. I've played 20 hours total now and I'm still struggling against all star AI sometimes... which is a good thing.
I'm starting to get a bit frustrated with the high number of turnovers good PGs get though. You'd think Russell Westbrook would be capable of making a 5 foot post entry pass to Ibaka or Perkins in the post without derping it directly to the defender.
