Talk about NBA 2K14 here.

http://www.operationsports.com/forums/n ... -look.htmlOn Potential ratings
What we have now is a number that remains stagnant. If you draft a player with 82 potental, he won't surpass that rating. I have only tested this with six players but the two most recent I did were Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller. The two have 86 potential and 82 potential respectively. Oladipo maxed out at 86 at 27 years of age while Zeller maxed out at 82 at age 28. The two both stayed at this overall until age 31 before dropping approximately1 or 2 points each year.
Free Agency Moves
While I wish that there was nothing but good news, I am a little disappointed to discover that the "improved CPU in regards to free agent signings" was... well I will let you make the decision. Several years in to the Association, Brandon Knight (80) signed with Cavaliers to back up Kyrie Irving (92). Jrue Holiday (89) signed with the pelicans to back up some generated rookie Wyatt Smith (90). And last but not least, brandon jennings (86) signed with the trail blazers to back up Damian Lilliard (93). And this is just point guards. I will be happy look during a new Association at other positions but for the sake of time, let us continue.
Generated Rookies Issue
For starters there are several new layup ratings since the inside shot rating is gone. When you allow 2k to generate a draft class, all of these ratings are 25 for ALL of the players.
Only four trades in year 1, two in year 2.

Welp, that's disappointing news.

Last year was the most boring trade deadline....
High rated players signing as a 3rd guard on a team is nothing new. Jarrett Jack signed to backup Kyrie Irving, he could have started on other teams. Most teams have three guards to be successful.....David West signing with the Pacers instead of the Celtics was "unrealistic" too.
I always find it funny when people talk about realism in personnel moves. There are so many non-basketball reasons players choose teams and teams trade players. A lot of trades are not beneficial to the team trading and are a result of extenuating circumstances, usually his teammates or fans hate him.
Anyway with Leftos and Vl@d's great work in recent years....I am hoping the in game association isn't needed.....crack the code.

Summary: Association remains a mess.

guess playing association with fantasy draft settings is still going to be frustrating

What team could Jarret Jack start for? How was David West to the Pacers unrealistic? I get the point but bad examples.
I've experienced in last years game Chris Paul and Deron Williams signing with the Cavs, that's unrealistic.

Utah, Dallas, Houston, Milwaukee, Miami, Orlando, New York, Toronto.....thats not even the teams he could play next to a starting PG.
David West was offered a deal from Boston....when this happened everyone was confused why West chose the Pacers (nowhere close to a playoff roster at that time) over the Celtics. People claimed it was "unrealistic".
Lebron James and CHris Bosh signing with the Heat was "unrealistic" too.
The NBA is full of crazy trade/FA signings throughout its history, you can't program all the reasons. Chris Paul and Deron Williams could easily happen because Deron Williams is a 2 guard in later life like JKIdd.

I don't see Jack starting for Dallas, Houston, New York or even Toronto.. And yeah, Pacers were so far from being a Playoffs team that they actually made the Playoffs a year before signing David West with whom they went on to finish as a 4th seed in the east, while it was obvious that Boston's time is almost up and they were gonna rebuild soon, while Pacers were young and rising to be great team which also guaranteed West a starting role instead of backing up KG... And LeBron + Bosh to Miami was a logic turn of events.. They play different positions for one and Miami had enough money.. Also, I don't believe that Cavs, having Irving, would sign Deron and CP3, I just can't see that.

To me there are 30 different GM's and 2k cannot program to what is "realistic". You and I have different opinions about what position Deron Williams should play. I see him as a capable SG and would have no problem putting him next to a top flight PG. Chauncy Billups, Jason Kidd, Gary Payton and Doc RIvers all made that transition. Other GM's would not....I see one opinion about 2k's realism being totally subjective.
Pacers went 37-45 and did make the playoffs before signing West. You are correct sir.
The Heat took on a different scheme....Lebron played PF for much of his time with the Heat, Bosh rarely played center in Toronto....Heat made a decision to play 5 guys....positions didn't matter. Something that some GM's would not see. Again a subjective opinion about what is real.

It is admittedly hard to gauge realism when there are headscratching trades and free agent signings in real life, but there's usually some underlying logic or reasoning. Chris Paul was quick to re-sign with the Clippers in reality but even if he was looking to move on, Cleveland probably wouldn't have been his first choice. Since the Cavaliers are building around Kyrie Irving and they're both players who like to have the ball in their hands, such a move would've been unlikely, though it happened a lot in NBA 2K13. At the very least they would've been starting alongside one another, but the game always relegated Irving to the bench.
I think it's more a case of there being some logic, some rhyme and reason, as opposed to moves that feel too random, illogical or highly unlikely, just for the sake of having player movement. Frequency is the other issue; while blockbusters and strange/unlikely trades do occur, they don't happen too often and the circumstances are usually fairly specific. You're not going to get 100% accuracy unless you control all 30 teams and make the same moves as they happen in real life, but I think most people just don't want to see half the league making major moves in the first few weeks of the season with five or six big names getting traded or a star from the defending champions taking a paycut to sign with a small market, basement dwelling team.

This was somewhat annoying in 2k13, especially when Chris Paul signed in Cleveland and Kyrie Irving was now a backup (89 OVR). My solution was simply to resign from my position as suns GM and become the GM of cleveland and trade Paul to a team that needed a PG and had a good SG/SF/PF/C in return.
A little annoying but it's better than the alternative

glad to hear about the stagnant potentials, makes it less likely to have so many high rated players a few years into association..
now to start editing my draft class spreadsheets.....

It's definitely disappointing, primarily the lack of change; some weird stuff will always happen, it's to hard to account for everything. I'll somewhat give them a pass IF we see some major improvements for the next gen title (even though I probably won't be going next gen until next year). It seems that the two versions are almost entirely different games and that's definitely a good thing.
Totally agree about the logic to personnel movement. Now we're getting into the realm of GM attributes or tenancies. I wonder how hard that type of stuff is to implement from a coding perspective.
