Yeah, that's the problem. Does having 80 overall hurt his scoring ability? It doesn't as long as the scoring attributes are good enough. For example, look at Kevin Martin from his Kings/Rockets years. He scored a lot and scored efficiently, but did little else well. In 2K his overall was always around high 70s, low 80s at best. Did that take anything away from his scoring ability? It didn't, any attributes associated with scoring were high, but his overall was brought down by poor rebounding, passing, defense, etc. That's how Martin ended up both in gameplay and in simulation - a player who can torch you with his scoring, but that's it. If the attributes that represent a player accurately net him an 80 overall, so be it. What's wrong with that?

skoadam wrote:We all know overalls are just overalls, but in some way it gives you information about player play quality.

It gives very little information. Looking at the "basic attributes" that 2K has should be the absolute least you do if you want to learn about a player's abilities. Sometimes a very low rated player can be more useful than a pseudo-versatile guy with a higher rating who excels at nothing. Hell, in my 2K10 Association I had a 55-overall rated Brent Barry playing big minutes for me because of his high shot 3PT rating and very quick release. In simulated games, he also shot threes well and did nothing else.

skoadam wrote:So if i see Dwight Howard at 92 or 94 im 100% sure that he will be beast in offence, because his shooting ratings, offensive awarnesss must be high set.

Remember about the athleticism. After reading Andrew's article, I also remembered Josh Smith. Back when I was making rosters for old Live games, he would always end up with a super high overall and it's more of the same in 2K, so we know the athletic attributes are still weighted too heavily and that must be a big part of Howard's high overall. A vast majority of very athletic players will appear slightly overrated, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they really are. Besides, Dwight's post game is probably overrated, but he still scored 17 points per game on 57% TS last season, so he's not all bad.

Chalmers should be a 70 tops. He isn't starter caliber, just plays his role as a 3-point shooter and decent defender. 76 is way too high, I'd say 73 is high as well.
King Mellow wrote:Chris Johnson: 66 (Y)
I'm tired of 15th men and free agents being ranked in the mid-60s. If you don't even play minutes, you shouldn't have a score more than 55 or 60. Chris Johnson (I don't even know who he plays for, he's irrelevant and probably will be cut by whatever team he's on) is ranked only 2 points lower than Cody Zeller, who is likely to start most of the games for his team this year and likely contend for ROY. WTF???

I'd sign off on Zeller being the worst NBA player of all-time before I would him contending for RoY.

Please, i know the overall ratings could be easily debated in way to make it very, i mean, very clear that they doesn't really shows what's the player really ability inside a basketball game, as Andrew pointed out so well couple of days ago.

But if Lebron got a 99, i invite basketball fans to watch these vídeo about the old school methods against Mike...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adusCcba89o

No comparisons at the end of the day, imo, if James got a 99, MJ should get 110 at least.... :scold:

FINALLY, Back then there isn't only hard though hand checking - double - triple man defence with pure intensity and hard physical play... Nope.

To score you gotta have BALLS! Back then the game was design for men not punks, period.

Which glorious rookies does Zeller have to beat? Oladipo and McLemore are really the only real threats. Porter, KCP, and MCollum aren't going to have a huge role, Len and Noel are injured, Bennett just flat out sucks, and Olynyk is a long shot. Zeller will be contending for ROY and if he doesn't win it, he'll be runner up or 3rd best. Quote me on that in April.

btw, not just saying this because I'm a fan of the team he's on- thought he was going to be a steal in the draft and always had faith in him being a stud.

Really? Are you kidding me??? He's soft inside the paint, not a good rebounder only averaging about 8.1 rebs. in his sophomore year, he couldn't even finish a basket inside the paint then you're saying he will be a contender for ROY this year? lmfao. I don't think his play will translate well in the NBA. :P

One thing is clear, every next year the worst rookies we get. If i go back to the 80 or 90, ehhh lot of those rookies was star role from first NBA match.

Kobe Bryant : 93 (N) -it should be 94 or 95
Ben McLemore : 72 (N) - he deserves 75
Kevin Durant : 94 (N) - it should be at least 95

He'll be fine. He's more of a jump-shooter and athletic pick and roll player than a low-post banger which will be alright since Jefferson is our low post guy. Kemba is going to have a field day with both of them. He is going to surprise a lot of people. His summer league performance was impressive as well, though you can't take too much from that.

You're not remembering correctly if you think that Michael Jordan was subject to actual hand checking and brutal physicality during his super-stardom. He was the first player I can recall getting a foul called if defenders looked at him the wrong way, and to never get called for traveling. The NBA was different in the 90's for sure, but Jordan operated under his own set of rules; the same ones people now complain about when they are afforded to Kobe, Lebron, and other present day NBA stars. I love Michael Jordan, and really enjoyed watching him play growing up, but let's stop pretending he was more than he was, which was arguably the best player ever, and unarguably a Top 3 player of all-time.

Realistic since Marc Gasol wasn't included by the NBA media voters to the All Defensive First Team anyway.

No wonder you think Zeller is a RoY contender, you greatly lack respectable basketball knowledge.

I dont like Jordan when i was kid or later teenager, maybe philosophy for Bulls as a teamm with one guys shootin around 30 fga, i was prefering more team playin but i will never(for now) setup Jordan with LBJ at the same lvl. Jordan was pure leader, clutch player, put NBA to another level and basketball overall like no other player, Jordan era was the best era for NBA, can we say the same about LBJ?. So if we thinks global we cant, just cant give 99 to LBJ if Jordan get the same. But if 2k use only current roster formula LBJ deserve his 99. Now its a matter of point of view. Im lookin global on rosters so i never give LBJ 99 overall, not this season, maybe next, he still must prove every year-the same way like Jordan did-that he can be the best player in history. So if we back to 1996 we can easily say that Jordan deserve 99ovr, i dont have this feeling now when i watching LBJ...just no.

No Ratings for Spurs players. Maybe that's because we're the West Champions and only have 3 HOF players. We should try harder next season.
