Heat bring back Beasley

Gotta say, I didn't believe the rumors leading up to this signing. I'm still somewhat to excited to have Beas back in a weird, sadomasochistic way. I don't see him getting any PT though behind Battier and Lewis. What do ya'll think?

Over Lewis yes. Battier maybe not. The Heat play small ball so he's probably going to play a lot of mins at PF anyway. Remember Beasley plays better around superstar talent. He's at his worst when he has to create for himself like in PHX. The expectations are not going to be set so high so he'll do fine. The key thing would be to knockdown shots which he is capable of.

It's now or never for Beasley. If he can't produce for Miami, I think his NBA career is done. That said, I think he'll pull through and be a good scoring option for them off the bench.

As much as he's regressed over his career his scoring usage probably buys an extra minute the Heat can get along without one each of the "Big Three", maybe a couple minutes for Bosh/Wade, maybe even a couple without two of them especially playing with LeBron.

Both he and Oden are low risk, high reward potentials. If they can get just five minutes of a hair better than expected play out of each they'll be pretty well off, if they can get ten minutes plus AND near-career peak levels they'll be pretty tough to beat yet again. This is exactly the types of risk title teams should take on instead of scooping up as many over the hill barely alive veterans as possible. (Similar to the Nate Robinson in Chicago move last season.)

Especially when you have the second best player in the world and a couple of pretty good side kicks. Not to mention LeBron James.

They should just lock Beasley in the gym with Ray, Shane, James Jones and Rashard. Plus fine him for every shot he takes at 18-22 feet during the season. Maybe LeBron can teach him how to post up instead of face up near the paint.

As benji said, it's a low risk move that could pan out very well for the Heat. As for Beasley, he probably could've found more playing time elsewhere but he could still find a role in Miami, while having an opportunity to be a part of a legitimate contender. Win-win.

Beasley's not a player you had to draft, and he's still not the player you've gotta sign. You wanna get younger? We already have Ennis, and NoCole. 14=15th spot could have gone elsewhere. Riley should have been more patient.

If the Heat don't threepeat like I will do in NLSC Fantasy league, it's all on this move.

This is the season Arison and Riley have to go all in and what we get is good-bye-Mike.Miller and hello-Mike.Beasley. Might as well let the LBJ bidding war start already! This isn't a low risk move but each and every move is a high risk because of what's at stake next offseason.

I doubt Beasley will be playing heavy minutes, therefore he can't possibly drag the team down if he doesn't perform up to par. In fact, I expect he'll have to work his way into the rotation considering his history. Plus, when you have retained the same core that's won two consecutive championships, one minor addition such as this one isn't going to kill their chances at a threepeat. It's not as risky a move as you're making it out to be.

As Axel said. With the championship core intact, it isn't much of a risk to add a player with Beasley's offensive potential. Worst thing for the Heat could be R. Lewis 2.0 which wouldn't actually that bad...

LoL I'd rather have kept Mike Miller, or have signed Mo Williams instead, or even be patient and see who turns up in the market, needn't hurry at all. There's a reason why elite teams like Suns and Wolves, lol, didn't want anything to do wit him.

This is a mistake, you know it but "still have trio" is clouding our vision. There's no potential with this kid. He's a headache and a burden. You don't want him stealing minutes from capable role players, let alone big three. This threepeat run is going to be super duper important in LBJ's decision next season. But instead this roster didn't upgrade much at all outside of 'potential'(Oden, not Beasley) but rather downgraded because didn't wanna pay for a versatile and sometimes a savior Mike Miller. Yet we've learned nothing from 06 championship team. You stay content you lose, you need to keep on improve.

Don't get me wrong. I like potential too. But I just ain't seein it from Beas. I still hope to see Riley to improve the roster in the future but plz, no more bs of potential. What we need is a proven vet yet still capable. Just open up your wallet Micky.

i will not disagree about keeping miller, they should have kept him, i still say beasley is a no risk signing. even if he does nothing at all this season or gets cut after 14 games they lost nothing but if he can provide a spark off the bench then its a win/win for both of them. gives beasley a chance to revive his career and net a ring and gives miami an athletic player with solid potential off the bench

There's still hope in Beasley. Just like Z-Bo, If you guys remember he smokes weed too but now he's a changed man. 2 NBA All-Star appearances, double-double machine a good team leader for the Grizz. Same for Beas, he need to turn things around and get better.

Beasley is considered one of the greatest freshman college basketball players of the 2000s. And if players like James Jones can be benched forever in Miami, I don't think it will be a problem for Beasley.

If he plays good then great, if he doesn't then "eh". Same goes for Oden. We still have a solid roster, not as solid as last season because MM13 isn't here anymore but then again the big 3 should improve by this off season. And who knows Bosh might have turned into a fierce 3 pointer

Even if there's absolutely no hope for Beasley, there's still no risk. There's no huge amount of guaranteed money tied up in him, he's not going to be called upon to play a huge role and they've still a roster that makes them one of the favourites to win it all. He can't really mess anything up long term; if he doesn't pan out, he'll be gone sooner rather than later and the Heat will go about their business as usual, with a roster that still has the tools to get the job done.

Except the Heat are trying to cut down on their luxury payments and Mo signed for a two year deal at almost $6 million, not a minimum not guaranteed deal. They could have fit him in with the mini-MLE (which they still have) but it would have eliminated half their savings from Miller. (Also to note, they still have to ACTUALLY pay Miller his salary, it's just lopped off the NBA's "books.")

Two weeks before training camp is hurrying? Who else is out there that they won't be able to pickup ala Chris Andersen if things don't work out?

You do during the regular season. Hell, I bet the Heat would absolutely love if they can get away with him taking big chunks of minutes from Battier and Allen (and probably Wade) so they aren't ground into dust by the time it's the postseason. Even if he doesn't play much better than he has in recent seasons.

I'd even argue that if the Heat are already at 35-40 wins by the All-Star Break then Beasley and some of these other bums SHOULD be getting 20 minutes a game after it. Especially if Indiana, Brooklyn and Chicago aren't looking like they're on track for 60 wins. (And maybe even if they are since you have to beat two of them anyway. Kick the Knicks teeth in for five games or so to get yourself in playoff mode and advance to the gauntlet.)

Yet we've learned nothing from 06 championship team. You stay content you lose, you need to keep on improve.

What about the '12 championship team, they added just two players who fit a need and repeated.

What about the '11 runner-up, they added just one player who fit an unknown need and won a title.

You really think Beasley is going to destroy the franchise with a locker room with Joel, Wade, LeBron, Battier and Ray Allen in it? Knowing that this is one of his last chances at making himself relevant? Not only that but knowing it's a chance to play even a hair above his half-assed game and look way better than he is on a franchise and in a location he's familiar with?
