Additionally, we added new features that many PlayStation gamers have requested. You will now be able to listen to music in the background while playing games and access Music Unlimited controls on the fly without completely exiting game play or other apps.

I've gone from a huge PC gamer to more of a console guy in recent years. My desktop is still very capable and I enjoy games on both, but there're couple reasons I prefer to play on console these days. Simlicity, big 120' screen over 27' monitor, controller over mouse/keyboard, couch over desk, multiplayer with house guest. And not to mention some great console exclusives. I will probably go back to being a huge PC gamer when I get a new comp though.

720p should be a minor issue(can anyone really tell dif between 1080p anyway? Maybe on a big big ass tv... even then PC minitors aren't that big either). Give console game devs time to properly adjust. I mean next gen isn't even out yet. And NO, I am not a console elitist. I just find this entire PC is definite better argument silly.

My PC is hooked up to my main home theatre setup: http://htpchowto.com/wp-content/uploads ... 000b01.jpg . I can use a 360 controller for almost any game, or wireless keyboard or mouse from my recliner.

And I'm really not trying to prove anything. Just stating some facts and waiting for someone to come and help sway me to purchasing a console. Honestly I'm closer to buying a PS3 at this point for Last of US and GTA V, than a PS4 at the moment. While I agree 720p vs 1080p is pretty minor, it's just the fact that game developers like Dice are already having to make compromises to visuals. I pretty much read an article on how they were disappointed by the PS4 performance and haven't been able to shake it. Hell Titanfall alone might make me purchase a nextgen console.

And if you miss a console homescreen - Steam Big Picture fine as all hell

Very good point.

Again, I am not buying a PS4 to replace my PS360/PC, I am buying it for the basketball games and whatever PS+ wants to give me for free until the stuff that I know I will eventually want will come out. I fully expect the thing to still cost $400 for the next few years, and if I need to upgrade my HDD to 1TB to match future models, IMO worth it for the time I'll have it for and the free shit I get.

Titanfall on PC too. If you're a sports gamer, then next gen is the way to go. Just for NHL, NBALIVE, Madden, NBA2k (even though it might have next gen graphics on PC). Other than sports games I don't see much need for a next gen console. Just look up Nvidia Grid and Nvidia shield is only going to get better. Netflix and all that media stuff my smart tv or computer can already do.

Oh and some PS4 news

"Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that PlayStation Camera allows for voice recognition and we will look forward to sharing more details in the lead up to the launch of PlayStation 4 on November 29 [15 for U.S.]."

Fair enough. Cool set up there. I can see why next gen consoles don't interest you.

True. I don't think anyone is going to be truly amazed like before with such tech spec/performance. You gotta wish they'll be good enough to make great games on em, pretty much.

I don't think anyone wants to see this ps4 gen lasting a decade before next gen shows up again. Heck PS3/360 didn't really last a decade either. But then $399 is quite a fair pricing.

i do agree that the controller is better in some games, racing and sports mainly. i cant even begin to imagine diablo 3 with a controller and not a mouse

Diablo 3 on controller sounds just as awful as Dota/LoL on controller. Prolly the worst is Starcraft II though.

Btw, a lot of us should have experience playing GTA with both controller and keyboard/mouse. Which one did you guys like better? For me, it's easily the controller. I just feel more comfy with games like that on a controller. Recently I played saints row the third on keyboard/mouse and was crap compared to sleeping dogs on a controller(not the game but just control).

I'd say controller, though it's handy to have the mouse at hand for the sniper rifle.

don't know if this is the actual design:

is this the piece that puts the final nail in the xboxone coffin? or is sony just rubbing it in now? do you even care?

I'd go with I don't really care. Unless it's shown to have a practical use right out of the gate, with some worthwhile games that make good use of it, I don't think it's going to give the PS4 a bigger advantage than it already has.

The matter has been slightly complicated, but not derailed, by the growing industry support for Oculus Rift. Sony's device will be a categorical rival to Oculus, and for months there have been rumours suggesting the two companies are seeking a partnership.

If Sony pulls off that partnership then yes.

VR is definitely where it's at. I love watching the reactions of people putting on the Rift for the first time (luuuuk it uuuup). But this still depends how half-assed they support it.

If anything Oculus Rift is going to be used on games made by id Software.

That headset's been out for awhile but I am still not sold because reviews weren't that good generally. You're probably better off buying TVs. Unless there's been a huge improvement I would say it's not worth the price yet.

I'm basically too lazy to look it up. But does that Sony headset feature headtracking; ie. you turn your head left, your screen pans left in game? Because without that it is basically just a personal screen and pretty much incomparable to the Rift.

Guys, I don't think they've showed what the actual VR model is or what the price is. I don't believe it's going to be that one from Amazon.

Oculus Rift is going to be priced at $300. If sony can make a headset that's $150-200 then I think it would be low enough for consumers to buy. The problem would be if it's priced low, will it be not as good as something like the Oculus Rift. If it's a low quality product then I think it will be a flop. It will be interesting to see what Sony decides. Do they want a high end, high priced device that only "pro-sumers" will buy or do they want a price friendly device that can be purchased by many.

Whatever Sony does with their technology, it'll be a bonus for us the fans. I'm sure a lot of us bought Playstation 24' 3D Display though initial price didn't really attract us that much.

And I have to say I agree with Volsey. I always thought that'd be the true next gen element.

Anyone catch the Vita TV announcement?
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=672977

From the SCEJA conference, PS VIta TV is a device that lets you play Vita games on TV
  • Japanese launch is nov 14 2013
  • 9,480 Yen ~$100 for the console
  • 14,980 Yen ~$150 for the console + 8GB memory card and a white DS3
  • Accepts physical Vita cards
  • Plays PS1 and PSP games
  • PS4 remote play, so yes also DualShock 4 support
  • You can stream PS4 games through PS Vita TV on a tv in another room (!!)
  • *additional info from TSA*
  • There will be a system software update to patch in DualShock 4 support.
  • It can connect to other PS Vitas via ad hoc mode.
  • Two DualShock 3 controllers can be paired to the system, allowing for playing PS1 titles.
  • PS Vita can be used as a controller for some Wii U like functionality.
  • Will support “nasne”, a networked recorder and media storage device

Image
Image

I still want a real Vita so I can be portable with my next gen basketball games...heh, but this is pretty awesome. I don't know if I'd go for $100, but at $50 it would be a no-brainer for me...especially if I hadn't already gotten my hands on a Vita by that point.
Opinions are my own.

There's definitely a visual hit when you're using the PS Vita TV to play PS4 games. We played Knack, one of the console's flagship launch titles, and though it looked good, there was definitely something a bit off. In a way, it almost looked like we were watching a YouTube video running at 1080p--it was serviceable, and looked good, but had minor tinges of compression.

That's the (relatively minor) bad news. The good news is that it played flawlessly. During our 10-minute demo we experienced no lag whatsoever. It felt as though we were playing a game running on the hardware, not a game being streamed wirelessly to it.
Opinions are my own.
