Dwyane Wade Unhappy With LeBron James?

Image

After the Heats blowout loss to the Milwaukee Bucks last night, rumors have started surfacing of some disagreements in the Heat camp. This is the 3rd loss in a row this week for the Heat. Monday they lost to the Wizards in DC, Wednesday they lost to the Bobcats in Charlotte, and Thursday they got blown out by the Bucks. They are still top of the East. They do still have a 1 game lead over the Cavaliers. But LeBron has been criticising D-Wade and Bosh again. Even though they responded to last years criticism and won a championship. LeBron continues to beat the drum about his star teammates needing to contribute more nightly.

LeBron James certainly has not been a problem for the Miami Heat. He has been the one player who has consistently played like somebody who is dying for another ring. Unfortunately, LeBron has not had much help from his team's other two stars, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Instead of acknowledging his horrible play, Wade believes that LeBron and company just need to do a better job of putting himself and Bosh in better positions to succeed.

"We've got to do a good job of making sure me and Chris have our opportunities to succeed throughout the game," Wade said. "That's something we're going to have to look at as a team." "We've got guys individually who want to play better. But we've got to try to help each other out in this locker room and not leave it up to the individual to self-will it."

All 3 players have early termination options on their contracts this summer. LeBron has been rumored to opt out this summer. Win or lose a ring. That has bound to put the stress on Wade, Bosh and James relationship. Watch this space for further developments.

Bucks still have for sale sign out

Image

At a recent Milwaukee Bucks game at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, I ventured over to chat with Herb Kohl, who was sitting in his customary seat at midcourt, just a few rows off the floor.

No sooner had I approached the former U.S. Senator and Bucks owner, when he quipped, “What’s the latest rumor?”

Funny he should ask. After all, the hottest rumor making the rounds is that Kohl is seriously contemplating selling the Bucks. Yeah, there have been whispers of Kohl selling the team or taking on additional partners for years.

But the chatter among NBA insiders has intensified in recent months with many believing Kohl could sell the team outright or bring on board a partner who would eventually become the Bucks’ primary owner.

One well connected individual who has his finger on the pulse of the Bucks’ ownership situation insisted just a few weeks ago that Kohl would sell his NBA franchise, which he has owned since March 1985, to Michael Heisley, a billionaire from Chicago.

Heisley owned the Memphis Grizzlies until selling it in June for approximately $370 million. The scuttlebutt was that talks between Heisley and Kohl were at the advanced stage and a deal could go down as early as next month.

But when recently asked about buying the Bucks, Heisley said, “It’s a false rumor.” Some Heisley associates said Heisley has deep concerns about the viability of the Bradley Center, which opened in 1988. Additionally, I was told Heisley had inquired about the availability of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

While Heisley was — and perhaps still is — the front-runner to buy the Bucks, there’s another prominent person who reportedly has more than a passing interest in the Bucks. That’s Mark L. Attanasio, the Los Angeles-based investor who is the majority owner of the Milwaukee Brewers.

According to some sources, Attanasio has become increasingly fond of Milwaukee. His continual involvement in local activities strongly suggest that being the case.

Attanasio is also part owner of the Milwaukee Admirals, an American Hockey League team, and was a major sponsor in the Andy Warhol exhibition at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Three longshot candidates who would certainly have the resources, but bring the moving trucks with them are Chris Hansen (Seattle) and a group of investors from Louisville, and Kansas City. Seattle have the tenacity to pursue the Bucks, but no arena. Louisville and Kansas have the arenas, but no lead deep pocketed investor.
But I think its highly improbable that the Bucks are sold to someone who would relocate them.

Kohl, who is incredibly guarded about his personal dealings, has been mum about any potential sale. Instead, Kohl said he still derives much pleasure from owning the Bucks and now that his senatorial duties are done, intends on being even more involved with the team.

And that may indeed occur. But Kohl turned 78 in February and, rest assured, has given considerable thought to his own welfare and that of the Bucks. As such, some of his confidantes claim they wouldn’t be surprised if he passes on the Bucks’ torch sooner rather than later.

The decks certainly have been cleared for a change in Bucks’ ownership. General manager John Hammond is a “lame duck.”

Yet, there have been rumblings Hammond may actually receive an extension — whether Kohl is or isn’t the majority owner next season. While the Bucks have made the NBA playoffs just once in the last four seasons under the Hammond regime, Hammond was the 2010 NBA Executive of the Year and is highly respected by his peers. Hammond refused to comment on whether there have been any talks about an extension for him. The Bucks have made a promising start to the 2013-14 season and Hammond might be rubbing his hands in anticipation of getting that extension.

I'm surprised that this association does not have that many replies. It's pretty solid.

I like that you are trying to spice it up with a potential relocation too. My vote would be for Seattle. That city desperately needs a team.

Narrow win against the Pistons; Mayo's input made it happen. (Y) I'd imagine it's a little difficult to win games without a true point guard, but 18-17 is pretty solid so far.

Yeah its something i'm looking at upgrading. Knight is putting up solid numbers though. Team flows a little better with Ridnour on the court. Mayo has been an elite scorer and I think he is in the top 5 in the league in ppg at the moment. Got a deep team with Ridnour, Delfino, Redd, Ilyasova and Pachulia on the bench. Solid but not spectacular.

Bucks pushing hard, looking to make major moves.

Image

Has John Hammond lost his mind? The Bucks stand at 6th in the East at 21-17. A good solid season with a nice young core built around Mayo, Henson and Sanders. And yet Hammond cant help but look at the aging Lakers longingly. The Lakers stand at 12-25 and 2nd last in the West. A franchise in turmoil, a roster with no room for moves to upgrade appreciably.

Nash is turning 40 and finally looks his age on court. Gasol is 33 and hasn't been the dominant force he once was 2-3 years ago. Kobe Bryant is 35 years old and is picking up a lot of injuries every week. He tore his achilles tendon last summer and rushed back from it. He has lost a lot of explosiveness this season. Mike D'Antoni had proven to be every bit the horrible hire that every except the Lakers front office knew he would be. They drove away Dwight Howard in the summer, and where left with a threadbare roster.

Now why on Gods green earth would anyone want anything to do with this shambles? Hammond has seemingly been ringing daily to make trade offers and enquiries for most of the Laker stars. Nash and Gasol might add a little to the Bucks, but in order to make salaries work, the Bucks would have to give up some assets. The Lakers seem unwilling to take on salary past this year, as they have an eye on LeBron and Carmelo this summer.

But Hammond is banking on the Lakers blowing it all up before the trade deadline in February and tanking for Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker and company in the draft.

Here are some of the scenarios being touted around:

Steve Nash (Lakers) for Luke Ridnour and 2015 2nd Rd Pick (Bucks)

Likelihood of happening - 7/10

Reason: Ridnour is expiring, Lakers grab a pick and clear almost 10m more cap for this offseason. Bucks get a vet leader and someone to continue to develop Brandon Knight. The only snag is Steve Nash may not be happy to move to Milwaukee.

Pau Gasol (Lakers) for Ersan Ilyasova, Carlos Delfino, Ronny Turiaf (Bucks)

Likelihood of happening - 5/10

Reason: Lakers take on almost 8m with Ilyasova for next year. Only a sideways move talent wise. Unless they look to move him again. Bucks already have a nice frontcourt with Henson and Sanders. This could help or hinder their development.

Kobe Bryant (Lakers) for OJ Mayo, Larry Sanders and Ersan Ilyasova (Bucks)

Likelihood of happening - 2/10

Reason: You dont trade one of your franchises greatest players ever. Unless he demands out. Which he has before. A 30m expiring contract for a possible top 10 center, top 5 scorer and a decent stretch 4 in Ilyasova. I cant see many other teams giving up that much for Kobe at this stage. A massive gamble as Kobe could use his no trade clause. Even if he waives it, he could still walk in the summer. I think teams like the Bulls and Knicks are a far likelier destination if Kobe wants out. Bucks give up a lot but Kobe could push them higher in the playoff race. Only aided by Brandon Knight, John Henson and Derrick Williams, a 1st rd exit could still be on the cards.

Whether its the Bucks with Hammond or another GM hoping to strike gold, the rumor mill is pretty certain the Lakers roster will not be the same at the trade deadline. Hammond has his contract up for renewal, and this could be the making or breaking of him. With the ownership of the franchise in the air, Hammond may not be just trying to impress Herb Kohl but any prospective new owners.

Milwaukee Bucks sale draws closer

Image

The sale of the Milwaukee Bucks seems to be drawing to a close. Or at least it seemed so. Rumors have been emerging that the Milwaukee Bucks were reportedly almost sold to Chicago based millionaire Michael Heisley. Herb Kohl and Heisley were close to a deal before Heisley suffered a stroke in February of last year. Heisley is recovering after being in a coma for several months. But it seems the former Memphis Grizzlies owner ailing health has changed his tune on getting back into the NBA. This is understandable as it could leave the Bucks in a difficult position should Heisleys health further deteriorate.

However with Kohl's dismay at this deal falling through, he needs a knight in shining armor to come along. Or maybe in Under Armor. Yes Under Armor CEO and owner Kevin Plank is interested in buying the Bucks. Plank sees it as a way to fully break into the NBA merchandising game and further increase sales and worldwide recognition. However Plank is considered a longshot due to his lack of knowledge in the major sporting field.

But maybe someone else from that area of the country with a lot more sporting expertise may be ready to swoop in and seal a deal. Quite literally swooping in, Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti is looking to expand his list of assets. Bisciotti is a succesful NFL owner and is looking to buy a team near his hometown of Baltimore. Since the Wizards aren't up for sale, and Michael Jordan isn't budging, Bisciotti sees this as a happy medium for now. The Ravens won the Super Bowl in 2000 and 2012 after Bisciotti bought the team. Quite the track record. Bisciotti knows how to run a major sporting franchise. Biscotti was even pictured at a recent Bucks game last week. Its presumed it was in advance of a private meeting with Herb Kohl about the purchase of the franchise.

I wouldn't do any of those deals, you should keep Sanders and Ilyasova. Getting Nash for half a year might be good.

Bucks get Nash and Butler in 3 Team Trade

Image

The Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers have agreed on a 3 team trade. The Bucks are sending Luke Ridnour, Nate Wolters, Khris Middleton and Miroslav Radulijuca out and receiving Steve Nash and Caron Butler. The Suns are sending Caron Butler in exchange for Wolters, Middleton, Radulijuca and cap space. The Lakers look to be going into full on tank mode now by sending Steve Nash in exchange for Luke Ridnour. This trade means the Lakers and Suns now are hotly contesting the battle at the bottom of the West.

The Bucks have gained two experienced players who will strengthen the starting 5 and bench. The Bucks now look to have one of the deepest squads in the East. Right behind the Heat, Pacers and Nets. Nash will compete with Brandon Knight for the starting spot. Butler and Derrick Williams will contest the small forward spot. This could mean a starting 5 of Nash, Mayo, Williams, Henson and Sanders. The bench looks extremely strong with Knight, Delfino, Butler, Ilyasova and Pachulia. The Bucks have played inside out this season, and this trade looks to further strengthen that notion. They've not only added experience, but plenty of floor spacing and 3 point shooting.

Its hard to know how Steve Nash feels about playing in Milwaukee, but I have to imagine he ok'ed this deal with Mitch Kupchak. Lets see how Kobe reacts to this move. The Lakers clearing capspace and downgrading at the point. Look for the Lakers to quietly go into wind down mode. The Suns too want to shed salary and decrease win numbers with this move. Butler had been playing well and helping them win some games. Exit stage left Caron, not in the plan this season.

One side note remarked on by some fellow writers here, this move comes hot on the heels of the Steve Ballmer visit to the Bucks owner Herb Kohl. I wonder has he influenced this decision in anyway. If the Bucks decline all their team options this summer, they have close to 30m of capspace to sign free agents. Some of the 2014 free agents could include, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and Dwayne Wade.

The first big move before the trade deadline in less than a month. Look for the Kobe trade rumors to heat up very very soon...
