Talk about NBA 2K14 here.

It seems like the textures are a little bit better. Animations look smooth and fluid. AI still looks a bit stupid. Overall good update, everything else will come with next gen. Also the guy playing with the Heat is horrible lol.
Sun Aug 25, 2013 10:53 am
collisions look fine, but shit, so much canimation going on with them....hopefully there is a nice balance.
Sun Aug 25, 2013 10:56 am
We wont know until we get our hands on the downgraded version of 2k14. I hope they dont rip us of off like they did this year.
Sun Aug 25, 2013 11:01 am
what is your definition of getting ripped off for our half priced game?
Sun Aug 25, 2013 11:10 am
Oh yea forgot about the half price. But we never asked for the that. I would be just fine paying the full 60 dollars for the full game.
Sun Aug 25, 2013 12:42 pm
It certainly doesn't put the game in the best light when the person playing it isn't particularly skilled, but bottom line, once again it looks like more of the same. That's fine and to be expected for current gen, the improvements to the feel and whatnot won't be apparent until we actually get our hands on the game.
I think we have a pretty good idea of what the game will look like at this point. I'm more interested to hear a bit more about specific updates, fixes and enhancements to the gameplay and game modes through the Developer Insights, then get a brief taste of it via the demo.

To me this looks a bit better than the other videos, looks like they did add a ton of new animations
Mon Aug 26, 2013 3:43 am
The video gameplay is a bit early to be commented on but damn still i see those ugly animations from last year
Mon Aug 26, 2013 8:18 am
Ok, i can say right now, find 2 differences between 2k13 and 2k14? Answer: oops sry, only one, euro teams. Im not buyin this, 2k start working like EA Sports back in 2006-2008.
Maybe i will change my opinion later but right now i say NO to 2K14.
Mon Aug 26, 2013 10:50 pm
well, i like it

i see some new animations which is cool. not the mention euroleague mod. and hey, at least i won't need to buy new pc for that one

It was quite dumb for you to assume 2K is going to spend whole year working on current-gen version. That "year of work" of yours was put into the next-gen version, obviously. As you yourself mentioned a few posts earlier it has already happened when older gen colided with a brand new one, like those 06-08 NBA Live's on current-gen. I don't know what you expected, this gen is done and won't get better, because game developers have already reached it's limits..

As Andrew said somewhere before, just some enhancements here and there. 2k13 with a few new additions. But there are some things that I'm looking forward to, like the Path of Greatness and the new gameplay features like flashy passes, blocking dunks & ankle breaking skill(whatever that is, I mean how it will different from the normal 2k13 dribbling is what I want to know). Also, it would be great that we will be able to use the files from the previous 2k games(11-13), especially cfs.
The only thing I desperately hope is that they have fixed the replay bug and will include all-star weekend for current gen.

dude im not talking about previous year, im talking about last five years from 2k9. 2k10 was 2k9.1 and so on, if u cant see this u must be blind. They add few animations, few options(some removes lol-like all star), did not updating rosters or doin this poor, cant use accurate colors of courts, jerseys; releasing games with the same bugs and issues, updating patch in february or march year to year but you still think they work hard. No they're not. I like NBA 2k but im not blind.
And another sign of easy way of 2k is not implement new gen on nowadays PCs which are probably(i dont know details) same powerful as ps4. But its norm in gaming world from years so they cant just be first.
Hehe and one more about EA, yeah they work so hard on next gen in 06-08 that they just cant release next gen lol, cmon they are just lazy.

good point

Well I don't think you can revolutionize a game when you have to make yearly releases. At best, you can tweak and add some things while constantly runing through strict deadlines. Personally, I think 2k's 9 through 13 were updated and tweaked enough to feel like new games. They introduced new features like My Career, My Player, Online asociation, upgraded ones they already had and made a really good job. Of course there were some annoying bugs, like that contract bug that carried over for 2k12 to 2k13, but even big games that are being made for more than 1 year have many bugs (just ask Bethesda). Of course if they really wanted they could use many resources and do a really hard work to add many new things in one year, but that would just be an ill-advised bussiness practice, since you bought 2k9-13 as they are now anyway

They aren't making these games for a greater good you know and it's ok as long as they do it to clever extents. And yeah, high end PC's today are as or even more powerful than PS4's, but I really can't imagine releasing next-gen version before a next-gen itself. Pushing release date for an already existing platform doesn't make any sense either. And seeing how EA hesitated to release a next-gen versions of NBA Live and FIFA on PC when the now-current gen has arrived makes me wonder if they have any agreements with Sony and Microsoft to release next-gen versions of their sports games only on consoles to help boost their sale. That's just my thoughts, though. Maybe it was just because of a different system architecture between consoles and PC and seeing how X1 and PS4 are similar to PC's this gen, maybe we could expect next-gen versions as early as next year..

There were some big changes with game modes and such. But those "little" tweaks might not seem like much year to year, but they add up over the course of 3, 4 years. The game plays pretty damn good and improvements are there year to year. Also it's pretty clear by now 2K doesn't care much about the PC version, I dusted off my 360 to play on it and they do address issues. Let's keep things in perspective.
Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:15 pm
Having been in 2Ks offices for 6 weeks, let me just laugh off any claims that the people at VC aren't working hard. With the exception of 2K12, the game felt consistently better every year, even on years when it wasn't that improved in the places I wanted it to be.
If you think all VC has been doing all year long is add a few animations, man you just (don't) see what you (don't) want to see.
Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:21 pm
Just watched a bit of this.
Looks like all 2K spent the last year on was dumping the award-winning Jay-Z hand-designed UI design for something designed by probably some cubicle farmer.
They should have completely overhauled the engine starting from scratch and recoded it straight to the metal. Lazy developers strike again.
Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:22 pm
Amen benji. I should hand in my resignation tomorrow.
Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:35 pm
They should just hire the community, we pretty much do all the work and make the game every year anyway.
Just look at how many classic teams they've added in two years compared to the community. No contest. Not to mention stuff like NCAA FEATURES and everything else the community does to fix 2K's slackoffware.
And this despite them bringing in all the profits while the people who actually sell the game do it for the love.
Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:42 pm
Hard work doesn't necessarily always give great results.
I'd rather prefer an efficient and effective lazy dev team than an inefficient and ineffective hard working team.
For all we know the 2K devs are working hard on a single or few particular things to the detriment of improving a lot of important things in the game like the option to have custom socks and headband colors.
Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:45 pm
And I agree with that. Us working hard doesn't mean the game will end up being all any one person will want it to be. What you consider important may go against a whole year's or a whole team's philosophy. I don't doubt nor do I have some weird expectation that we'll satisfy everyone. I just can't take the "lazy" line.
P.S. Yes. I replied seriously, even with your post's last few words. Did I just blow your mind?
Tue Aug 27, 2013 5:50 pm
If you consider that post mind blowing, I'll lower my expectations then.
