Yeah, I hope he succeeds. I really do. I just don't like his attitude most of the time. In saying that though, I really like Andrew Bogut and he's provided some cringe-worthy moments in his career.

Isn't Goulding the one Arcane coached? I know he had some affiliation with him.

I'll have to watch those on iView, since my TV doesn't seem to get any of the ABC channels here.

So it turns out that "2:00pm AEST LIVE on ABC1" actually means "2:00pm everywhere LIVE in AEST states on ABC1".

Y'know, because those two things aren't completely different.

The pre-season tourney is on this weekend in Sydney. There was word it would be streamed free, but it doesn't appear that'll happen. The league had its launch today, which seems to have gone well.

The new ownership has done more for the league in the past month than BA in the three years it was involved, which is absurd. The pre-season is the Loggins-Bruton Cup, Loggins and Bruton have signed on as ambassadors, the Ray Borner medal for pre-season MVP returns, and Mal Cooper has taken Peter Carey's job as head of officiating, assisted by Bill Mildenhall and Ray Hunt. The first decree: actually call fouls. Adelaide defeated Perth 102-91 last night. Other scores haven't been quite as high, but the offense is certainly being given much more protection, so the slugfests of old are gone.

The Loggins-Bruton cup WILL be streamed via the Sydney Kings' UStream channel: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/sydneykings

That just shows radio streams for past games at the moment, but this weekend's games will include video.

Interim NBL CEO Steve Dunn was interviewed at halftime of the Breakers/Wildcats game last night, revealing:
*One game, delayed, on Friday night at 9.30 (live in DST states if from Perth)
*One game, live (in DST states) on Sunday afternoon at 2.00 on Ten, or One if Ten have something more important on
*NBL.TV will return
*The NBL, not Ten, will be producing the FTA games, and will have full control over what is broadcast, "such as commentators" (goodbye Carfino!), so effort will actually go into the TV broadcasts this year. They hope to also produce the NBL.TV games in future seasons.
*NBL HQ in Sydney is apparently awesome. Basketball hoops, NBA 2k games, TV monitors with NBA and NBL on, etc.

Sounds like they've actually got around to going through the old tape archives, too, which Chuck Harmison was planning on getting around to but never did.

NBL.TV appears to be accepting signups for 2013/14, in that the signup price listed has increased from $80 to $99. No other sign of the site having been updated though. Those with a subscription last year will have it automatically renew, unless you've specified otherwise. Production is apparently going to take a big step up from last season, although no specifics have been mentioned.

The Blitz coverage is single-camera with no replays or graphics, other than a picture-in-picture of a camera pointed at the scoreboard on the wall, so no hints there.

Between all that, the new emphasis on protecting the offensive players, which has opened things up tremendously (although foul counts are through the roof at the moment, most teams have only played a couple of games under the new interpretations and it'll take time to adjust), and the fact that NZ and Perth have come back to the pack, I would be very surprised if this isn't the best year to follow the NBL in years.

This week's contestant on "How Badly Can You Mismanage a Queensland Basketball Team?": The Logan Thunder, who waited until a week before the start of the WNBL season to mention that they kinda didn't have any money.

Say what you will about NBL teams folding, at least they're not that stupid about it.

Thunder Survive

And on the NBL front, Boti also has a good piece on the referees and their implementation of the new interpretations this season: http://www.botinagy.com/blog/team-nine-needs-time-too/

Good to hear after he went undrafted. Hope he can at least get a bit of a run.

NBL Open to Tassie Team

Rumour has it that Brisbane are already in, but nothing's been officially announced. They may not, however, be the Bullets: a lot of people have suddenly decided that Washington had the right idea.

The Tigers haven't announced anything, but Chris Anstey has said in radio appearances that they will be playing at Margaret Court Arena once the retractable roof is in place, which should be in time for next season.

Interview with NBL CEO Fraser Neill

Sounds promising, particularly for Brisbane fans. The Perform and Ten deals are an absolute pain, though. Given that Ten have been trying to get out of theirs for years now, I don't see how the league can be stuck with it; I'd imagine Ten would jump at an opportunity to part ways.

Sam Young has apparently signed with the Kings, though the Kings have made no comment on the subject thus far.

Sam Young, James Ennis, Jonny Flynn, and Patty Mills over the past three years. And yet apparently we can't attract quality players anymore.

EDIT: Boti Nagy article. For context, Sanders is very much a hustle-and-defence type, so his low stats are pretty irrelevant, and Sydney have zero players capable of replacing him. Carmouche is definitely the one to go.

Be interesting to see how he performs tomorrow night. 9.30pm on One.

Re: Aussie Basketball Discussion: Sam Young to Kings?

Sanders, for some reason, is the one who's been cut. Kings hoping to have Sam Young for Sunday's game against Perth. If that's the case, two guys drafted to the NBA in the past four years will be matched up against each other. Meanwhile, James Ennis actually has a battle on his hands for MVP, with Chris Goulding in the sort of form that would have Cleveland wondering why they cut him.

Sam Young officially signs with the Kings: http://www.nbl.com.au/article/id/71zwmk ... 2153xi3a3h, http://www.sydneykings.com/article/id/3 ... ysswza6xjp

Adelaide vs Perth on Friday, which could potentially be the best game of the year.
