Moving to Cleveland!

Postby BrotherJRB on Sat Jul 20, 2013 4:08 am

Although I might be the only one that would be happy to move to Cleveland, Ohio.....in September I will be there. The company I work for just offered me the job I wanted. Got a nice raise too.

Anyway I currently live in Houston, TX and I am so glad to get out of here. With Dwight Howard coming here I just couldn't take it. Houston is also the worst city I have ever lived in. I hated it here.

I will likely have less free time to create mods, but I will have a little more money to support those who do. I can't wait for NBA 2k14.

Now I am not sure if I should get Cavs season tickets?

Cleveland Rocks.

Congrats on the job, good to hear that you're excited about the new gig and the move. Probably not a bad time to catch some Cavs games live, given their up and coming young players. Just don't set the bar too high for the team as a whole, I guess. ;)

Houston is fucking terrible. San Antonio and El Paso are the only places worth living in when it comes toTexas.

Hey what did you hate in particular about Houston? Can you get into a bit detail?

Also, Cleveland games should be really fun. If Bynum turns out to be healthy by any chance they would be so damn fun to watch, especially with Anthony Bennett joining the mix too.

Bowdown my grips.

Houston is a very large city in size and people. It takes 45 minutes to get anywhere, constant traffic in the mornings. I am not a big driver (I didn't have a car for a few years as I used public transportation) but this city requires a vehicle....that is unless you can afford a $350k+ home in the few good neighborhoods within the loop. Suburbs the prices are fine but it takes many of my co-workers over a hour to get to work. Also relaxed zoning laws, so you have mini-mansions built next to whatever. Neighborhoods are really lacking in a homely feel.

My company is based in south houston....which is a pretty crime riddled area. Numerous times I had run ins with some dudes outside of a bar or adult establishment. A lot of petty crime. Cars broken into every night. My wife wouldn't go to a gas station at dark. A lot of permanent homelessness.

Very few people are from Houston. So there is not a lot of history. There is so much migration because of the booming economy that the city lacks a real identity other than a business hub. The diversity is great, I have never seen so many different combination ethnicity/races of women besides being in Miami so it would be a great city for a single 20 something....not so much for a married 32 year old guy.

Houston is also really hot and humid. Not my favorite mix. Every place is air conditioned so you go from 100 degrees outside to 70 degrees inside....something just feels wrong in my bones with that. And it is unbearably hot for 6 months. Galveston beach is alright (it was nice to be taht close) but it is the worst looking beach/water that I have been to.

Houston just wasn't my type of city. To sum it up it just lacks soul.

Guess Shaq did no wrong unintentionally insulting the city of Houston.

And grats to jrlocke. Good to know man. Don't know about the whole season but you should at least be in the Quicken Loans when Heat is visiting :D

Anyway, congrats on your new job. I could imagine a major positive about Cleveland would be its less extreme summers.
