I still can't believe this trailer is real.

It erases all my possible doubts (and I probably have more than Jao, and I did with The Third, I'm just not weakwilled) every time I watch it.

The Third was like some half-assed (and based on everything IdolNinja just posted it was, undercut by a dying THQ) self-aware but not confident evolution and consolidation of Saints Row 2.

This adds self-awareness of The Third and its place. And it sounds like more freedom. (And no shared team.)

The largest complaint I had about The Third was its tone and its occasional lifelessness. But the "Power", diedeckers and final arc missions were beyond amazing so it along with the plot just felt like they were so rushed. (Again, thankfully this was confirmed over the years.)

TL;DR: This trailer (and IdolNinja's reports) sounds like they get all that.

Looking at the demo, this feels too much like Prototype.

I just finished playing through SR2 and SR3 and loved both. The Third was a huge step-up from a gameplay standpoint but the epicness of the final missions was hindered somewhat by the excessive upgrades.

I think GTA V will be a better game but this should be a lot of fun.

I just came from GTA V thread, and I have nothing to say here.

Six years of development time with an unlimited budget and thousand plus man team vs. less than two years with a bankrupt publisher, budget in limbo for quarters and less than 250.

Still tempted to skip out on entire SR series that's come out so far and wait for SR IV to go on a sale. Heck, I'm not even planning on to pick up GTA at full price because of huge video game backlog.

They're different animals. The Third has vastly superior mission design and "omg they're actually doing this" moments. 2 is superior in most of the open world components. The core gameplay is better in The Third, but 2 already had smart third person shooter controls so that's not a big deal at all.

2 is definitely more of the "gangster" rising up from the streets to become a kingpin GTA style story. It also features superior gas-station-play.

2 has a bad PC port that has various issues, but can be just fine on some peoples PCs it was on mine until I installed 7 which goofs up the speed of the game that you need a little tool to fix, and I'd assume a used copy of the PS3 version would be easy and cheaper to pick up. Depends on if you want to use some of the mods like Gentleman of the Row.

The Third is on sale all the time, and it's Steamworks so anywhere you buy it from registers on Steam. Plus they've been having free weekends for it from time to time.

SAINT ROW THE THIRD RevieW

The game's actually quite enjoyable. I decided to try the 3 because it sounded less like Sleeping Dawgs which I recently finished. One thing I didn't like in Sleeping Dawgs was too much driving but that doesn't really bother me in this one because you get to point a to b farily quickly. And losing the Heat is made easy which I also like. I just stole an armored vehicle and kept it in my garage. That feels fucking awesome, something you couldn't do any other game. Overall, this game is over the top action, but in a very very very very good ways. And it runs smooth on Ultra Setting which is also a plus. Only minor issue is lack of online games to avail. But totally worth $5 and more. I recommend this game.

I still haven't decided on SR IV though yet. I will probably rely on Sauru's probably unreliable feedback before deciding how much I will spend on IV.

I KNEW IT!

It's hard to go back to Saints Row 2 after The Third because of the graphics and ability to leap into cars. The Third has no replay value but it was a great 25 or so hours taking over the city and beating the story. Would recommend overall.
