lol wtf the 80's Celtics and Lakers weren't super teams? The six-time Bulls weren't as much a "super team" as Miami is currently? The 1983 Sixers weren't a super team?

you and i both know its very different in how the teams were formed

The only "super team" different in league history is Miami because the three stars all took pay cuts in order to play together. And even that doesn't explain how you think the league is different NOW because of a single instance dictated almost entirely by circumstances (just look at how Melo/Dwight/Paul/Deron all fucked up despite wanting to supposedly do the same thing) and that they suddenly want "super teams" when that's only been the way the league has always operated (Mikan/Mikkelsen/Martin) because nobody wants to watch shitty teams play each other.

I think some of this just gets back to how you'd basically prefer the reserve clause existed in the NBA rather than players having the ability to play where they want to on the terms they want to. That players taking pay cuts somehow makes it "less pure" when "super teams" get assembled.

Silly benji. The core of the '83 Sixers already had Andrew Toney and Maurice Cheeks since they were rookies, Julius Erving and Bobby Jones were already with the team 6 and 4 years before respectively, it was Moses Malone that joined them for that season.
It's not like Andrew Toney, Julius Erving, and Moses Malone met up during the offseason as free agents and had a nefarious plan to team up like a crew of no good ring chasing championship mercenaries.

Maybe with the lack of social media, we all missed the truly first "decision" in sports. :cheeky:

The Heat Trio are just dicks, products of this new age generation. "Look at me, look at me!"

Garnett/Pierce/Allen teamed up in Boston and no one was this irritated at them. Sure it sucked cuz Garnett is awesome but they didn't make such a hoopla about it. The constant need for attention by Lebron is like watching a spoiled rich white kid from the Hamptons. Anyone seen The Purge? Know the guy that comes to the door/main bad guy with the stupid grin on his face? That's Lebron. "I am the chosen one."

Anyways, little teen tampons love the kid & he's the best player in basketball so all glory to him. Doesn't mean I have to like his fivehead though.

There are plenty of reasons that fans dislike certain teams and players, some petty, some more reasonable. However, I think the mere use of the word "haters" creates more haters, often being needlessly defiant while simultaneously playing victim and villain.

Very funny jackass! HaHaHA?

It's funny how you refer to LeBron as an attention whore while your Kobe has hard time keeping his mouth shut from hospital. Irritating? That's what your boy was all about for your team, txting/calling during half time to motivate/advise(lol), twitting like a boss so the world knows he better than D'antoni like usual Lamers fans.

Most attention LeBron gets is not due to his wants nor that he asked for much of it, but it's been like that ever since his high school days. Media and haters are usually the one that like to over-analyze him and hype everything up.

But hashtags are purty entertainin, keep em coming.

If I picked on every single dumb statement haters say these days, it's an endless series of trainwreck. But ignoring is a good skill to have. Goes both ways.

That'd be easier to believe if he hadn't pulled stunts like declare his entry into the dunk contest moments after someone else's victory (only to pull out again), schedule a one hour special on ESPN to announce where he's going to sign, make bold proclamations about the number of titles he's going to win and keep bringing up the "haters", not to mention branding himself with tattoos that read "Chosen 1" or introducing himself as "The King" when speaking to young players he's trying to recruit for his management group. If he doesn't want attention or hype, he's pretty lousy at avoiding both.

Of course, in that respect he's no different to most other professional athletes and celebrities, plus LeBron has the added bonus of actually living up to the hype. A lot of NBA stars who want to be in the spotlight don't manage that; LeBron can walk the walk, so he can talk the talk, to use the old cliche. Of course, that doesn't mean that everyone has to like him, his approach or the way he carries himself, but only a true hater would dismiss his accomplishments or abilities because of it.

I believe that's the kind of thing which already has been discussed prior to this mess. I don't know if you could entirely put it as 'attention whoring' though as such vast attention is warranted on a star of his caliber anyways. Wouldn't it make more sense that he's just not handling it right. Certainly, things that he does and says sometimes are really off putting. I just don't think those are calculated moves solely to earn attention(especially negative ones). Rather I'm inclined to believe it has more to do with his immaturity as a person(or simply a self absorbed douche), which media can expose on because it often becomes good story to sell. Attention? He's been under microscope since high school.

"Attention whore LeBron". I thought I would move past that...but anyway. LeBron doesn't need any attention, he already has more than enough with the 2 trophies he won a week ago. Who needs attention? Ya, someone who hasn't been of any hype since the playoffs started and grabs or whores for attention during his own team games through Twitter and partly turns a small crowd against his coach while at it. As for hashtags, Jackass said something about Bieber trending it off. Go check some tweets of your teams megastars, damn even I couldn't hurt Kobe like that, comparing or mistaking him for Bieber. And there is always the media to play LeBron as the villain. Hell, even guys like Magic Johnson want people to turn on LeBron. It might be a little of his fault, but majority of it comes from the opposition party. And Andrew, it's one thing to not like or root for a team/player, but it's another to hope for him to fail in every stage. If you won't call that hate, who would you call haters, right?

SteveHTOWN wrote:That's really something I do not like. And even worse Paul George being the copycat when calling himself "King George"...

It's not something that should be focused into that much. It's just a nick, nothing more nothing less. And in this case, it's the truth.

If only people from specific cities rooted for their teams, then every sport would be limited to that country only. And what shame! A Miami citizen who hasn't got any respect for Heat or Wade & Haslem. #You#should#be#hung

shadowgrin wrote:lol why would Pippen from the Bulls join Jordan if he was in Cleveland. Pippen would be the main man in Chicago if that's the case and Based on Pip's HoF speech he would be more than happy to be the franchise player.

He wouldn't. That's the point I was making where it was previously said that LeBron should have gotten players to join him.

Sauru wrote:if jordan was on cleveland back then he still wins a ring and no one would talk about the bulls like they were anything special. if not for the bulls no one would give 2 shits about chicago sports anyway. the only reason chicago is relative is because of jordan. lebron could have done the same with Cleveland but instead it was easier for him to leave. just admit to the fact that he took the easy way out. its not like he was old or past his prime. what if jordan bolted from the bulls to join detroit? oh shit i cant beat them so lets join them?

now i will grant that the league is different now. it seems the league wants super teams for some reason. i feel it has watered down basketball and has made it a much less interesting sport. if lebron was in the league when jordan player would he have stayed or bolted? who knows. he was raised to get what he wants right away so his attitude is not really that surprising to me. its one thing to give your career to a team then at the end after you have come so close join someone else for that one last chance(malone, payton, bourque in the nhl, so on) its another to bolt in your prime.

also this "its cleveland" shit needs to be thrown out the damn window. whats the point in having a team in clevelenad if they are looked down on? why not just toss out 20 teams in the league and only let the big cities play?

Jordan made Chicago but Chicago was nothing like Cleveland, it was better. "Bolting" at your prime, well, if you are to bolt, you can only on your prime. If you are old and done, then you can't bolt. I don't have nothing against Cleveland, but it is Cleveland. Just check out Houston, would they have ever made it if it wasn't for Harden? Otherwise, it would have been "it's Rockets".

Lol! No no never!
Chicago had a 38-44 record in Jordan's rookie season (1984-85).They finished 27-55 the year before. The Bulls finished 30-52 during the 1985-86 season when Jordan played only 18 games and had a 40-42 record when he returned the next season (1986-87). The Bulls rosters of MJ's early years were mediocre at best. They just did a great job of adding piece by piece to build around MJ who stood by his team...

Of course a player of LeBron's magnitude is going to draw attention and be in the spotlight a lot of the time. There's nothing that says he has to shun the spotlight either; it's not like Charles Barkley has shut up since 1984. I don't think it's fair of anyone to suggest that LeBron wakes up every day and thinks to himself "How can I get the spotlight on me today?" and even if he does, it's usually by going out and being the best player in the league, so he's doing his job. As you put it, it's more likely mishandling of the situation, immaturity or self-absorption. Of course, such traits can still be disliked and criticised.

At the end of the day though, like I said he lives up to the hype.

SoF'nAwesome wrote:And Andrew, it's one thing to not like or root for a team/player, but it's another to hope for him to fail in every stage. If you won't call that hate, who would you call haters, right?

I'm not a big fan of the term "hater" to begin with, since it's used way too often and way too quickly to dismiss criticism, even if the criticism is fair-handed and warranted. However, I think a true hater doesn't give any kind of fair acknowledgement or assessment of whatever it is they dislike.

The mere act of simply cheering against a player because you don't particularly like them or the team they're on (say, because they're a rival of your favourite team) doesn't automatically make you a hater. In terms of sports rivalries and fanbases, they're the "enemy" and the concept of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" tends to come into play. Beyond that, every sport has its villains, the players and teams that most folks outside of their fanbase don't really care for, for whatever reason. If nothing else, people often like an underdog and will thus cheer against the favoured team.

Again, it comes down to respect and regard for the player. If someone's attitude is "I don't like LeBron or the Heat, I'll never cheer for them, but he's the best player in the league and they're a force to be reckoned with, the team to beat", then I don't think that's hating. There's no bashing or marginalising accomplishments or abilities, it's just a matter of personal taste and preference with credit being given where it's due.

When criticisms are laughably off-base due to their bias or the dislike is ridiculously personal and obsessive, then "hater" is a fair term. When there's incessant bashing and refusal to give any kind of credit where it's due, you can definitely call it "hating". It's an overused term however, frequently levied at anyone who isn't a fawning fan or dares to critique a player or team, even when there's merit in the criticism.

In short: a hater takes their dislike way too far and it clouds their judgement. Anyone not taking it to that extreme isn't really "hating" as is often claimed.

i know the league is different now. i did not mean its different now cause of superteams i mean its different now as big name free agents are much more willing to relocate. it was not very often you saw an all star player switch teams in the prime of his career. its kind of expected now
