This news will probably catch some flack. Some player will definitely be frightened by it. I would think that some of the older owners who were raised in a different era would be discouraged to sign him. If he signs with a team and they travel on the road, I would imagine that he will get some abuse from the fans that are not open to his situation. I think there is definitely still a good portion of players that I think will not be receptive of him.

As for Collins, it was certainly a bold move given his profession; more power to him. Presumably he's looking to continue his NBA career, hopefully he'll be able to do so without persecution.

He did it so he can sue the league once he doesn't get signed, or to put pressure on a team to sign him. Obviously the story will continue depending on if any team and it's players will be willing to take on the pr along with him. Hopefully it's positive and an organization is looking to sign him with no concern of his sexuality.

He is going to encourage opponents to post him up down low and back him down. Hard.
Collins will lead the league in boxing out, as his coming out will prompt the stat to become recorded on box scores.
With Collins coming out, he will become a much greater rebounder being less wary about grabbing the ball.
He should have been playing baseball. That way he could pitch or catch.
Everyone will feel awkward when they encourage him to take it to the hole.

I live in a city where gays are openly accepted and gay marriages are allowed. There is even a gay street in downtown. Every year on regular basis, there's some sort of gay festival that goes on. In general, people here see gays as no different people but the same, just with different sexual preference. So for me, I don't get what the big fuss is about beacuse Jason Collins never really was an issue maker, especially at this stage of his career. Now if this was somebody like Charles, or Kenny... LoL

The woman who was once engaged to NBA star Jason Collins tells TMZ, she had NO CLUE he was gay at the time of their relationship ... in fact, she only found out last weekend ... and she was floored.

Carolyn Moos (who played a few seasons in the WNBA) dated Collins for seven years and was engaged to him until they broke up in 2009 ... after Collins pulled the plug on their wedding.

Carolyn tells TMZ, she never once suspected he was gay, so the news is shocking. She says Collins eventually revealed everything last weekend -- just days before his big announcement -- and said that his homosexuality was the real reason he ended things with her.

At the time of their breakup, Carolyn says Jason gave a bunch of BS reasons for calling it quits ... and she could never understand what went wrong, until now.

Carolyn -- who's back on the hunt for Mr. Right -- tells us, "It's very emotional for me as a woman to have invested 8 years in my dream to have a husband, soul mate, and best friend in him. So this is all hard to understand."
