Issues with Ps2 controller

Everytime I play online, If I hit the L2 button on my controller,the game disconnects. Any one else have this problem? Is it something I have to remap in the controller screen? It gets very frustrating when I'm playing a good game and by mistake I touch the L2 button and the game disconnects. Using the radio shack adapter. Please reply, I'm in a league and I can't have this happen. Thx.
