Windy City Takeover - Story

Isiah Thomas has purchased the Charlotte Bobcats from long time NBA rival Michael Jordan. The first thing Isiah did when given control of the team was file for relocation. David Stern woke up files to relocate to Chicago, sharing the United center with the Bulls. New York has two teams, Texas has multiple teams, and Los Angeles has two teams, so why not Chicago?

Will it be difficult for a second Chicago franchise to take some fans away from the already well-established and rabid Bulls fanbase? Without a doubt. However, it can be done. Look at the demand for Bulls tickets and you will see that a second NBA team in the Second City is an enticing proposition. The team will abandon the name 'Bobcat', and move towards something fresh and original. Rumors have circulated that the team may become the Panthers, Rhinos, or Flight, however no decision has been reached at this time.

The Takeover: Volume 1

"Sit down", David Stern adressed to Isiah Thomas. Isiah jerked his head towards his representatives, as they followed suit. Isiah sat down, Stern gave him a cheeky grin, and began speaking - "So, you're offering Mr. Jordan 195 million dollars. yes"? Isiah nodded, "I'm confident he will view our offer", he continued, "I'm looking forward to building a fanbase in the Windy City", he said with arrogance. David Stern nodded, as Isiah's phone began ringing, he checked it casually, to see it was one of Jordan's representatives. Jordan's P.R said they have accepted the offer, Isiah grinned from ear to ear. Stern nodded, and Isiah flamboyantly slided a relocation file over to Stern. Stern skimmed through it, nodding. Stern glanced over at his representative, and began speaking in a hushed tone. Stern then began speaking aloud to Isiah, saying, "I will look this over in depth and we will be meeting on a later date, okay?" Isiah nodded, walked over towards Stern and shook his hand with a firm grip.

Isiah arrived to NBA headquarters in a sleek black Cadillac, with four other men. They swiftly entered the facility, heading towards the reception desk. "We have a meeting with Mr. Stern, m'am?" She nodded, jerking her head towards the sitting area. "I will buzz Mr. Stern for you", she continued, "Hello Mr. Stern, Mr. Thomas here for you", a muzzled voice game through the machine, "Tell them to come up, room two", Isiah headed towards the elevator. He met eye to eye with Stern, giving him a nod and a smile. "Hi, how are you?" "Good, good", Stern said with indifference, "Sit down, please", Isiah sat down. Stern began speaking, "We have agreed to your relocation." Isiah nodded, "We are thankful for what you've done." Stern smiled, "You will be able to play the 2013-2014 NBA season in the United Center"

After going over the details, they parted ways.

I'm playing on a console, so it'll be a little difficult.

Look, i'm all down for an eventful story, but I LOVE the Bobcats and HATE to see them go. I feel like a Sac-Town fan right now. Anyway, good luck. I'm following too.

Yeah that is what I am doing with mine. I like to be ahead of real life for some reason.

I get ya. Keep in mind that this is just story telling! I'd hate to see Charlotte not have an NBA team, bro.

The Takeover: Volume 2

"Dunlap isn't working, huh?" Isiah said, "Nope, not he isn't - uhm, I've hired Lawrence Frank", he said, "Mike Malone will be the assistant."

"Stern is announcing our name tonight, fun way to do it, huh?" "Yeah", "Have you talked to Gerald? Yeah. I have. We've got the fourth pick in the draft. I've talked to the scouts", Isiah said, "They say that McLemore is our guy. I'm not so sure, I believe in Gerald." Mooch nodded, "I've been looking at Alex Len, he looks pretty good, yeah?" Isiah nodded, "Yeah, he does."

"Draft day is upon us, I've talked to scouts - apparently Noel's stock has dropped due to his ACL tear", Mooch continued, "He's our guy." Stern was busy announcing the second pick, then the third, until Chicago was placed on the clock. Chicago's scouting team all huddled together to hear the selection Mooch was about to make, until the phone rang. "Hello?" "Yeah, this is the GM of the Clippers. I want Sessions and Gordon." Mooch raised an eyebrow, but began speaking, "Give us Crawford and that rookie Orlando Johnson, mhm?" "Ah, damn. Uhm, okay, sure - but, throw in your 2nd rounder", Mooch snickered, "You got it." The message was passed along to Stern, who announced the trade - "Jamal Crawford and Orlando Johnson for Sessions, Gordon and a 2nd", the pick was up.

Image

"With the fourth pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Chicago Rhinos selected, Nerlens Noel from Kentucky!" The crowd roared, Noel walked up on stage in a boot, looking silly, shaking Stern's hand with a sheepish grin. "Great job, guys", Mooch said to the scouts.

Image

"You read Crawford's tweet?" Isiah said, "No, I haven't", Mooch said curiously, "He seems happy to be in Chicago", Mooch grinned, "Can't blame him."

Nice pick there. By the sounds of it, they don't expect Noel to be affected by his ACL that much.

The scouts raved over his ability to "get" it. They liked his timing, comparing him to Larry Sanders.

Larry Sanders, no! How about an actually good Hasheem Thabeet? Length, with great defensive ability.

I love Noel as a player, and it's an awesome pick, but you already have loads of defensive big men. While he shows crazy athleticism, you should focus in the offseason with camps on fine tuning his offensive game.

Noel is our future. Since he's pretty athletic, we're gonna try to find a way for him and Kemba to master the pick and roll/pop game.
