Rookie Ratings

Sun Jun 27, 2004 2:03 am

I know andrew's releasing a roster patch with the latest draft, (which im really excited). But how bout giving us some "looks" and "ratings" regarding the latest draft, so we can make our own rookies while we wait for the latest roster, if that is not so much to ask. :) Thanks! :)

I'm yet to assign appropriate ratings to the rookies themselves, so I can't really suggest any at this time. However, I'm open to suggestions myself - hopefully if I make any glaring mistakes with the ratings of the rookies in v1.08, they'll be corrected for the next update.

personally i dont think the ratings for the coming draftees should be that good i dont think this drfat class was as superior as last year. sooooo i think the highest should emeka at about 62-66 and everyone from their downhill except jameer who deserves to be high seeing coming from, college not high school.

The new rookies certainly won't be among the best players in the game, but I'll try not underrate them either.

I agree! but how about howard, da top pick? shouldn't he be higher that emeka? Do you think the magic made a mistake drafting howard rather than okafor?

I personally think howard should get a 70+. especially he can be a future Garnet... hopefully!

okay andrew! I hope this topic can help you ease up your work! :)

I don't think any of the rookies will be rated higher than 70, at least at the start of the season.

yEAH your right about emeka being a star. oh well I hope howard becomes a star soon, for the magic sake. especially now that Tmac is being traded to houston.

Goodluck in making the roster! hope to experience it soon! :)

What bothers me most about the ratings the game gives the generated rookies, is that the players jump, speed, quickness ratings are very low. They should be much higher for obvious reasons.

As for the rest of the ratings, one way of going about it is by making 'guessing' stats for the rookies and then calculating the appropriate ratings.
Example:
Let's say Okafor averages about 10 pts a game and maybe 10 rebounds, 2,5 blocks a game. He'll play about 35 minutes a game. Now calculate his per minute stats and compare it to the rest of the NBA. Let's say the league leader in rebounds with 14 rebounds a game, that would give him a 99 rebound rating (ofcourse there are offensive and defensive rebounds but this is just an example). Okafor will then have a:
99/(LeagueLeading ReboundsPerMinuteAverage)*OkaforsReboundPerMinuteAverage= X rebound rating.

then again, there are easier ways...

Andrew, do you need help with some ratings? If I find some time I might mess around with some rookies today (just tell me who, if not I'll start from the bottom of the 1st round).

BTW, I just finished JR Smith down to Harrison, if you're interested.

What I was thinking of doing was creating all of the rookies with ratings as I see fit, releasing the patch and relying on everyone to give me a lot of corrections. ;) However, since today's unfortunate incident, if you already have ratings sorted out I'd be happy to use them.

what unforunate incident? what happened?

andrew would you be trading tmac to houston ifever he will be traded later this week or next week?

Yeah that must suck :(. When I get back home today, I can email you the players.dbf and you can tweak them as you see fit. Actually though I only have Dorell Wright (I started JR Smith but never finished) and only did ratings, position, and name. I forgot to mention earlier that I'm bad with the looks :D.

The game quit unexpectedly before I was able to save. I lost 2.5 hours of work ie. the first 20 rookies in the draft. That's set me back a little bit, but I should be able to get back up to speed.

Of course. The whole idea of a current roster update is to update the rosters so that they are current. Obviously there are other important areas, editing players so that their ratings are more appropriate and yield correct simulated performance as well as realistic performance in gameplay, but the main objective of roster updates is to keep the rosters up to date. So yes, if T-Mac is traded in real life, I will trade him in the rosters.

I've made a lot of changes to the dbf files since v1.07, so what I might do is open your players.dbf file in Excel, cut it down to the ratings of the rookies that you have created, print it out and use it as a reference. In any event, thanks very much for any help you can provide with the ratings. :)
