MyPlayer - do you create yourself or someone fictional?

Postby Nick on Sat Sep 08, 2012 12:19 pm

I've never quite been able to make a decision on this. I'm curious to see what other guys around here do.

When you start a MyPlayer mode, do you create a guy who looks like you, has your name, plays like you, etc? Or do you create someone fictional altogether and just making a beast.

Making yourself seems to be what 2k aim for, right? It's fun because i feel more attached to the things i do with him, but i usually just end up thinking "i would never make a move like that... i can't dunk, that's not realistic" etc. Also i don't have the "star" name, or look. So usually i just make some athletic black dude and turn him into a stud.

What do you do, and why? Lemme hear it.

Well, atleast I am tall enough to be a NBA PG/SG so that works out in my favor to help me feel immersed. But it doesnt really matter. In the end you just focus on your stats and your performance regardless of your abilities like monster dunks or killer crossovers.

Both, there have been plenty of Jon Smith, Jao Sming, and random ass names in the 3 years I've played around with MP. I dont think I play different though with one or the other

i think i am too much of an nba fanatic/purist to ever create a "fake" player and put him on a team or creating custom teams. it's really weird. i have no problems creating players/teams in college games, but i haven't done that in an nba game since i had nba live 98

Both, I create myself with the idea shaped around what I'd be if I was a great player.

I don't know why, but I've always tried to create Carl Johnson from San Andreas :D He's been a beast for the last 2 or so years.

Both. Height and weight are "correct", but the created player will be about 10 years younger than myself. ;)

Other than the position and playing style, all fictional. I usually create a forward since that's what I'm always assigned to irl then.
Height may vary from 6'5 to 6'9, depending on what forward position I want to play in-game. Weight is real weight plus 5 lbs. increase for every inch increase from my real height. Age is always 28 based on my own observations regarding player potential back then in 2K10. With that age, I don't want any natural increase in my player's ratings and want to see how long my player will last in the league.

"Do you create yourself or someone fictional?"... The answer neither. I like to create my friends/ family. Usually I create a few players and give the names of friends followed by some fictional attribute ratings. When tools are released to mod the games I go and create a cyberface for each character using my friends facebook pictures.

I mostly create my cousin

Most of the time I try to make myself. My real life stats, like height, weight and stuff is good to be a nice PG.

A bit of both. Obviously my name is there, but I'm certainly not as handsome as my 2k counterpart usually. Nor am I 6'6 athletic Penny Hardaway clone.

Before My Player existed, I would create friends, some family, and some fictional players like Scott Howard, Sidney Deane and Billy Hoyle. I would create a team and dominate, or free agent pool/draft mod them into Live and let the game do the rest. If they added the ability to import draft classes to my player, I could do something similar. Until then, I just create an "NBA version" of myself at my position of choice.

The last couple of years, I've created players based on myself but I think I'll move away from that a bit this year. Being 6'3.5" basically limits me to being a guard and I'd like a change of pace, while 27/28 is older than the average rookie. Therefore, I might give my player my name, birthday and general appearance, but I'll make him taller and younger.

One I like is: Erwin Tyler. 6-11, 192. LeBron-ish skill wise.

Another from Live 2000 is Todd Wilkins who at 6-10 260 anchored my Clippers franchise and put up Dwight like numbers for a decade and a half. I used him as my main in 10 and 11. Was averaging like 16 rebounds a game with him in 11 in only 28 minutes per.

I tend to play multiple positions and types. I've never gotten through a full season with one because of my jumping between them. But as my steam stats show, I have played quite a bit of them, though it has started diminishing.

I always create myself. Why? so I can immerse myself in the 'dream' :) I know its corny but thats what keeps me coming back to NBA2k12 - I have multiple versions of myself usually as PF or SF, mainly because I've always preferred the PF type role.

heck, I even have a super me where I've installed a cheat to max out my points...just fun once in a while to not suck or be so bad as when starting out. But the phase dies quite quickly because getting 40+ points each game gets boring after a while (even if its for the Wizards and we lose 110-50! lol).

But yes...always me - my game, my decisions, my results, etc etc....MY PLAYER!! :)
