Inside Stuff Special Interview

Image

Hi I'm Ahmad Rashad, and I'm joined here by Ray Allen of the Golden State Warriors and Shaquille O'Neal of the Memphis Grizzlies. How you doin' fellas??

Allen - I'm doing great Ahmad

Shaq - I'm cool. I'm waiting to face Ray in the second round. Can't wait to whoop this boy's behind on Sunday.

Allen -

Shaq - It's time for me to send the Warriors home packing.

Allen - No you know what Shaq, we can't wait to go hunting for some Grizzlies this Sunday. We haven't had some good food for weeks and I'm starving.

Ahmad - Let's calm down here fellas. We're not here to argue.

Allen - We're just playin with you Ahmad. This was just a TV skit that your crew didn't know about haha. Isn't that right Shaq?? :D

Shaq - It was all Ray's idea Ahmad. He's the joker and I'm the big Aristotle

Ahmad - Alright guys, let's talk about the series that is coming up. How are you guys preparing for this?

Allen - I'm not saying anything ...... Shaq????

Shaq - Hell nah ... All i know is that they're gonna do the HACK-A-SHAQ.

Allen -

Shaq - But I ain't telling you our secrets Ahmad. I'll just say that this boy here is a hell of a shooter. And we really need to defend him the best we can. I know Mike (Miller) relishes these types of opportunities and he'll be up for the challange.

Allen - I think our biggest obstacle will be Shaq. He is one of the best players in history.

Shaq -

Allen - Hopefully, Big Z (Ilgauskas) can slow him down. We also know that Big Z can score so Shaq will have his hands full also. But we have other things to worry about. They also have Ben Wallace and we need to be agressive when taking the ball inside. We can't get scared of him. And they also have Mike Miller. He can hit three's like crazy. We have quite a challange infront of us.

Shaq - Yeah, this should be a fun series to watch for the fans out there. But we are confident we will come out on top. No offense to Ray; we will still be good friends. But we are not friends on the basketball court. He's gonna try to get the best of me. I'll try to get the best of him. And that's what basketball is about. Competition. But I'm telling y'all, we're coming out on top.

Ray - I like Shaq's optimism. But we'll come out on top Shaq. Hey Shaq, let's make a bet. If my team wins, and they will, then you will have to build a statue of me outside your house. And if you win, I will have to make a statue of you outside my house.

Shaq - Don't mess with the big Aristotle. It's a DEAL!!!!

Ahmad - Alright fans, you heard it from these two. And I would love to see who gets the best of whom. This should indeed be a great series.
Well thank you guys for coming on the show tonight.

Allen - Oh anything for you Ahmad. Don't forget to watch Shaq's team get KAZAAMED next week. In the meantime, go check out Shaq's new movie, Man of Steel

Shaq - Yeah check it out. I hope i'll win the Oscars. Alright Ahmad, thanks for having me :)

Yeah i'm sorry about that. The thing is that i played that series a long time ago. And I don't really remember what happened so I had to breeze through. But things will be different in the second round. I promise.

NBA DRAFT 2004 PREVIEW

Thursday, May 20,2004
Author: J.A. Adande (Los Angeles Times)

Today, the NBA draft lottery was held. To our surprise, the Miami Heat receive the first pick in the upcoming draft and the team with the worst record in the league, the Seattle Sonics, receive the second pick followed by the Clippers with the third pick.

Here are the top 10 teams for the NBA draft:

1. Miami Heat
2. Seattle Sonics
3. Los Angeles Clippers
4. Sacramento Kings
5. Chicago Bulls
6. Milwakee Bucks
7. Phoenix Suns
8. Cleveland Cavs
9. Denver Nuggets
10. Philadelphia Sixers

Now here are the most likely results for the upcoming draft:

1. Miami Heat - Although there is so much hype around Dwight Howard and Emeka Okafor, Miami is in desperate need of a Shooting Guard to take over the starting position over Reggie Miller (who has decided to retire this year). The Miami Heat will probably pick Andre Iguodala from the University of Arizona with the first pick.

2. Seattle Sonics - With a lineup that only has offensive depth and lacks defensive prowess, the Sonics cannot pass up on Emeka Okafor. This is a no-brainer. He will immediately give them defensive presence they need inside.

3. Los Angeles Clippers - The Clippers should select Dwight Howard. This kid is coming out of high school and will go no further than third. Hopefully this gamble will work out for the Clippers with their haunted past. He might not be able to score 20 and grab 10 boards immediately, but Dwight Howard can still be a defensive presence for them. But most importantly, he can bring a better future for the Clippers.

4. Sacramento Kings - They have Lebron James as their future savior. Who can be his sidekick? I believe that they will put their trust in Luol Deng out of Duke. This kid is tall and lengthy. He will provide offense and defense. We might have the Scottie and MJ of the new era in these two.

5. Chicago Bulls - The Bulls have a great starting lineup. But what killed them this year was their lack of depth in the bench. Look for them to pick up Luke Jackson (Oregon) to come off the bench and help them. The Bulls should be a power to reckon with next year.

6. Milwakee Bucks - The Bucks are looking a savior for their future. Who better to draft Shaun Livingston and let him take you to your dreamland??? They should pick up this kid.

7. Phoenix Suns - The Suns need someone to complement Steve Nash offensively. How about Josh Childress out of Stanford? Look for the Suns to pick up Childress and they can be a force to reckon with in the upcoming years.

8. Cleveland Cavs - How do the Cavs cope with the frequently injured Penny Hardaway? They draft Delonte West! And with Jason Kidd in the lineup, this kid and the Cavs will have a secure future.

9. Denver Nuggets - Having a weak post presence, the Nuggets would naturally look for someone big who will provide them that threat. However, there is nobody big in this draft that they could pick up this late. Unless someone doesn't pick Dwight Howard or Emeka Okafor. So look for them to find someone that will back up Baron Davis. Someone like Devin Harris.

10. Philadelphia Sixers - They don't really need any help on offense with the likes of Nick Van Exel, Allen Iverson, and Shareef Abdur Rahim. What they could use is a center. Look for them to draft Colin Miller out of Kentucky. He is 6'11 and 260 pounds. He will be a big improvement over Steven Hunter.

Well these are the projected top 10 draft picks for this years draft. Watch it on ESPN on June 24. Meanwhile, enjoy these playoffs. I haven't seen this much competition in quite some time.

Bill Walton (ESPN Analyst)

WOW, what a series this is going to be. You have a team with the MDE (Most Dominant Ever) in Shaquille O'neal (THROW IT DOWN BIG MAN, THROW IT DOWN!!!), a future superstar in Mike Miller, a #1 pick in Glenn Robinson, and Mr. BIG BEN WALLACE himself on one side. On the other side, you have one of the greatest shooters of ALL time in Ray Allen, a superstar of the future in Dwayne Wade, a BIG dominant center in Ilgauskas, and a high school phenomenon in Al Harrington. Add these two up and what do you get??? CHAOS ... complete chaos. This will be a series that will be remembered for the ages. These are titans clashing for the gold. This is a lot bigger than David and Goliath. It's so big that it's unexplainable. I can't believe how the first game went down. What an AMAZING game. Who would've thought that out of all the possibilities, a FOUR-POINT-PLAY would be the deciding factor of the game?? Oh BOY, I can't wait for the next game.

Breaking News!!! Dwayne Wade predicts a win for the Warriors in game 2

By Warren Blatt
San Fransisco Chronicle staff - NBA editor

Dwayne Wade, the ROOKIE, has done what not many rookies do and that is to predict a victory in a playoff game.

Here are his comments:

"We let game 1 slip away. We had it in our hands and we just let it slip away. I guarantee that we won't let the same thing happen again. We are confident that we can beat this team and I guarantee that we will win game two. You guys can write that down too. Game 2 will be ours!! No more comments."

Wow, a guarantee from the rookie. I believe that this is the first time that has ever happened in NBA history. That is a pretty bold move he just made there. But was it a wise move?

NO WAY!! If his team loses, he will be pounded by the media. It is not a very smart move for the rook out of Marquette University.

What will be the outcome? We will have to wait and find out.
Watch Game 2 of the Second Round on TNT this wednesday night to find out. It will surely be an interesting game.

Yeh, me too, I like the play of the game thingy...mind if I steal that idea from you? There's only so much you can do with one snapshot!

I do like the resolution that your screenshots have. What graphic card do you use...also the question of the day is... what detail setting do you use? Anisotropic/trilinear/bilinear? I don't know which one is best?

Well I play the dynasty on my Toshiba Laptop.
It has nVIDIA GeForce 4 420 Go Video card with 32 MB RAM

And I use the trilinear detail setting. I have no clue what it means but it sounds better than bilinear and anisotropic. I just figured tri means 3, bi means 2, and iso means 1 and i guessed that trilinear would be the best. So the results speak for themselves!

And yeah .. you can take that idea of the play of the game. We are all here to learn from each other. And I admit that I got some of my ideas from other people that post in this forum. So whatever makes our community better, I say go for it!

I'm also not too fond of posting too many pictures. I feel that posting more than 2 pictures per game is putting too much detail in your thread.I just go for the "great" snapshot that comes around only once per game. If you look at the real NBA recaps, you only see one or two pictures. So I usually take many snapshots during a game and I select the snapshot that looks the best.

Tony: Alright Mike, topic of the day. The Warriors just dismantled the Grizzlies last night. How many points did they win by? 21 points?? 21 POINTS!!!! I mean this is just ridiculuos Mike, how could you lose by 21 points in the playoffs when you have Shaq and Ben Wallace on your team??? You wanna answer that question Mike?

Mike: One Word, Tony .... INSPIRATION. The Warriors were inspired last night and they felt as if they wouldn't lose. We heard Dwayne Wade make the predictions before the game and I believe he did the right thing. His prediction inspired his teammates because if the Warriors would have lost that game, then Wade would be in a media whirlwind today. And probably for the rest of his LIFE. Tony, simply put, the Warriors just wanted this game more than the Grizzlies.

Tony: But 21 points MIKE!!! 21 POINTS!!!! How????

Mike: I don't know Tony, beats me

Actually Anisostrophic is the best. Trust me, it is. I don't remember all the reasons for it, but worst is bilinear, middle is tri, and best is aniso.

Nice dynasty. The only thing I dislike is the mispelling on DwYAne Wade's name.

Yeah i just realized that my settings were actually on Anisotropic. So I tried trilinear, and you're right, anisotropic is a lot better!

NBA Playoffs 2004

#2 Golden State Warriors (51-31) vs. #3 Memphis Grizzlies (53-29)

Second Round of Playoffs

Series is tied 1 - 1

Game 3: Warriors @ Grizzlies

Starters:

Golden State Warriors:

C - Zydrunas Ilgauskas
PF - Keon Clark
SF - Al Harrington
SG - Ray Allen
PG - Dwayne Wade

Memphis Grizzlies:

C - Shaquille O'Neal
PF - Ben Wallace
SF - Glenn Robinson
SG - Mike Miller
PG - Darrel Armstrong

Game 3 Summary:

The Grizzlies have a 10 point lead at halftime. After the third, their lead diminishes to 3. In the fourth quarter, they surrender the lead and fall behind by 10 with two minutes left. All of a sudden, the Grizzlies start to become aggressive on the defensive end like never before. And before you know it, after two threes by Mike Miller and two more by Glenn Robinson, the score is 91 - 90 in favor of the Warriors after Dwyane Wade made the first one and missed the second. With about 8 seconds left, Armstrong throws the ball to Shaq (it was actually a fastbreak) and Shaq has the ball in his hands when Ilgauskas catches up to him. Shaq can't shake him so he's forced to take a shot 18 feet out from the left wing. He missed as expected ... BUT a miracle happened for the Grizzlies. Ben Wallace comes out of nowhere, and dunks in the rebound with 0.3 seconds LEFT!!! Grizzlies lead 92-91. Then after a Warriors time-out, Dwyane Wade knocks down a three ... but he was 0.1 seconds too late.

Final Score:
Grizzlies - 92
Warriors - 91

Player of the Game:

Mike Miller - 34 points, 7 - 9 three pointers, 5 assists.

Other Notables:

Ray Allen - 32 points, 4 assists
Dwyane Wade - 23 points, 10 assists, 5 steals

Shaquille O'Neal - 23 points, 15 rebounds
Glenn Robinson - 18 points, 8 rebounds
Ben Wallace - 13 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks, and game winning shot

Play Of the Game:

Ben Wallace's Rebound Dunk To Win The Game

Image

Post Game Analysis:

Image

ESPN's PTI
Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon

Tony: Topic of the day folks .... Ben Wallace's heroics. It was by far the biggest play and biggest win in Grizzley history. I was just speechless after Wallace dunked that. Nobody was expecting it. Everybody thought that the game was over once Shaq missed that prayer. But wait, here comes Big Ben in a split second, and wins the GAME!!!!   Mike, you have to believe that this series is over.

Mike: Well Tony, I won't say it's over yet. If the Grizzlies win the next game, then I will have no doubt in my mind that the Grizzlies will win. But I will have to see one more win. But like you said Tony, WHAT A SHOT!!! I thought the game was clearly over. That's what I call a miracle Tony. It was a pure miracle!!

Tony: You also have to consider Wade's last shot that went in. I mean if Wallace was a split second early with that dunk, then the Warriors might be walking away with that win. But 0.3 is now the favorite number in Memphis. If it was 0.4 seconds, then Warriors would have clearly won that game. No doubt about it. But almost doesn't count Mike. I felt that the dunk by Wallace was just STUNNIG!! This is why I love this game.

Mike:True Dat Tony, true dat. :)

Grizzlies now lead the series (2 - 1)

Stay tuned for game 4

Ben Wallace - A Hero In Memphis
By Mike Lopresti, USA Today Newspaper

In our lives, we all have moments that come around only once in a lifetime. Last night's dunk by Ben Wallace was one of those moments. And it couldn't have come at a better time for him and for his fans. Ben Wallace, at the epitome of his career, came through at the most crucial time in his team's history. The shot he made last night is of historic proportions. Never in my lifetime have I seen a moment so spectacular. When for a split second, it seems as if everything is done. Then before you know it, a miracle happens. And that miracle for the Grizzlies is Ben Wallace. Nobody expected it. Nobody imagined it. And it couldn't have been drawn out any better.

From the moment he started playing in this league, we all knew that he was different. Like the Charles Barkeleys that came before, like the Mohammad Alis, like the Jim Browns ... Ben Wallace is a unique player. He has a personality and a work ethic that is different from anyone that has ever played this game. And perhaps, we might never see another Ben Wallace. But in his time in the spotlight, when his teammates looked to him for leadership, when his fans supported him, he delivered. Not only for himself and his fans, but for a whole generation of people who work hard and question if there is any light at the end of the tunnel. Well folks, today we have found the answer to that question. There is not only a light at the end of the tunnel, but there is a new life there. A life like you never imagined before. And that light for Ben Wallace was delivered by his never-give-up attitude. His inner will that wouldn't let his team lose. One thing is for sure, he made us realize that even such a small thing such as a split second can change not only you, but the millions of people around you.

Today in Memphis, stores have sold out Ben Wallace jerseys. On the streets, people are selling "0.3" T-Shirts and custom "0.3" jerseys. Ben Wallace has brought a new-found-light to Memphis. You can feel it in the air. The atmosphere is electric around here. There are billboards around town that say "Thank You Ben." The shot that Ben Wallace made wasn't just a simple little shot. It was a beginning of a new revolution. And that revolution is taking place in Memphis right now.

Tony: After watching the Grizzlies' come from behind victory last night, it seems that all hope is lost for the Warriors. In fact, it wasn't last night's game that demoralized them. The blow came from Ben Wallace in game 3. Of course, even on paper, this team looks better than the Warriors. Mike, is it even worth it to watch game 5? Was this series hyped up too much? It seems as if it will be over in 5 games!!!

Mike: Well Tony, I know I said that if the Warriors lost this game, then this series is clearly over. Well guess what Tony ... it is over. No ifs, no buts, no hows. Memphis clearly has the better team. Let's look at who they have: Shaq, Ben Wallace, Glenn Robinson, even Mike Miller, and we can't forget Darrel Armstrong. Golden State, on the other hand, they're a young team. And this is a good experience for them. But they will lose game 6. No doubt about it Tony.

Tony: Well Mike, hopefully you won't have to eat your words. Next subject ......

Game 5: Grizzlies @ Warriors

Game 5 Summary:

The Warriors started the game out "ON FIRE." They played relentless D, stole the ball countless times, and killed Memphis with the fast break. It was a blowout at halftime and even a bigger blowout in the second half. The Warriors played an inspired game from the get-go and never lost focus once. Ray Allen and Dwyane Wade were unstoppable in this one.

Tony: Topic of the day folks .... The Warriors stun Mike Wilbon and the rest of the world with their blowout of the Grizzlies.

Mike:

Tony: Mike, what do you have to say about game 5??? :P
Mike: Well Tony, I still believe that this series belongs to the Grizzlies. They just didn't bring their game last night. The Warriors played the type of game they should have played in game 4. And frankly, it's a little too late now Tony. It was just one of those games for the Grizzlies last night.

Tony: Just one of those games? Mike, I saw the Grizzlies actually "trying hard" last night. It wasn't just one of those games. I think the Warriors might actually have a chance this time Mike. They just played dominating basketball last night. And I don't think any team on the planet could have beat them.

Mike: Tony, stop it with your non-sense. The Grizzlies clearly didn't bring it last night. This thing ends tomorrow in game 6. Grizzlies walk away to face Dirk Nowtzki and the Spurs in the next round.

Tony: You're making your predictions for that series too Mike? Wow, you're on a streak today. But we will see what happens. Next Topic .....
