NBA 2K13 Developer Insight #1 - Gameplay, Part 1

phpBB [video]

Content is 90 seconds long almost, shows off the new dribbling motions and some on-ball defense. Really like it so far.

Dribbling is combined on both the left and right stick this year, and there's no mention if there'll be a shot stick (by using a combination of a trigger or a button + RS for example). Guess we'll know in the weeks to come.

Seems like you can beat defenders, physics won't allow them to keep up with a good dribbling move as they'll inertia will force them to keep going the way they were going for a while (and that' shown in the video). They're saying they tried to eliminate sliding, which is nice.

Well, he didnt just call it a "dribble stick" he said "control stick". I never thought I'd see 2K drop the shot stick in favor of dribbling (at least not with the default control scheme, I am aware of 'Alternate C')
Opinions are my own.

2K has apparently said in various articles that the shot stick is now LT + Control/Right Stick on offense.

yea, I would rather have dribbling be a 2-press combination than shooting

should be interesting though

Hopefully they will make it customizable...
Should test before giving an opinion but I think I would rather have LT (lol still call it L1 from old PS) + right stick to make dribbles/iso motions, and normal right stick to shoot....if not well....get used to LT+RT+RS to dunk...

The control system sounds a lot like EA Skate, where you would control your skateboard with the right stick, I think. Can't wait, that Jrue in-out crossover got me hyped

As much as I've grown more accustomed to Isomotion the last couple of years, I still prefer the Freestyle approach of dribbling on the right stick, so my first thought is that I'll probably like and quickly adapt to the change. Not too much you can glean from those snippets but they looked alright, too. Keen to see more.

Think about what you do more. Do you shoot or do you dribble? You dribble more often, so using a modifier to turn it into a shot stick makes sense to me.

2K6 had the shot stick by default, but its been an alternate control scheme since then too

2K framerate sucks confirmed. Everything seems like it's in slow motion.

shot stick isn't dropped, you now have to hold a modifier (left bumper i believe) and use the shot stick to shot, i actually like this new way of them doing this, going to take some getting use to

I find D.Rose very annoying in 2k12 superstar/hof level difficulty. The trademark cpu up'n'under cheese works wonder with him.
The problem i can't score with him myself, none of his dribble moves seems to affect defender and he can't hit open shots consestently as well. I score better with Jason Kidd... .

I hope they will really improve on quickness/footwork differences on players. They almoust nailed it with 2k11 and then completely screwd up with 2k12.

So Wang took Live's dribble controls too

I'm not excited at all about dribble controls since I won't use them. Passing is a lot more important to me.

I like that they're giving defender more options like shading etc. I won't to be able to shade my guy to the corners or to help defenders.
