April 2014 In Review

Record: 42-40 (2-8) | 4th in division, 8th in conference

Image Image

The final month of the season was a disastrous one for the Bobcats, who went 2-8 in April without all-star Bradley Beal. Charlotte nearly fell out of the playoff picture with a six game losing streak but secured a playoff spot and winning record with a win over the 76ers, who would finish just a game behind them. With a 42-40 record, Charlotte slides to the 8 seed, and will be facing the two-time defending champion Miami Heat in the first round. Without Beal, most expect the Heat to roll over the Bobcats. Time will tell.

2014 NBA Playoffs:

I`m surprised you have managed to pry Bargnani away from Bryan Colangelo. I have not seen a GM fall in love with a mediocre player that badly in a long time...

At least it looks like you`ve managed to squeeze some potential out of him though.

I sort of expected you to win around 41 games and snag a low playoff seed. Not to far off I guess. The Heat will be a hassle without Beal around.

The 7 and 8 seed in the East has a winning record while the West has the losing record.

Sweep! (By Miami)

I don't see you having much chance in this series, especially without Beal. But when you play the games, who knows.

NBA First Round Preview: (1) Heat (61-21) vs. (8) Bobcats (42-40)

Image

The two-time defending champion Miami Heat have earned the #1 seed with the best record in the league, and will face the floundering Charlotte Bobcats in the first round. The Bobcats had their most promising season in years derailed by a late season injury to all-star guard Bradley Beal. "This series should be a good warm-up for us. Even with [Beal] out, they have some guys who can give us trouble", commented MVP favorite LeBron James.

As usual, Miami has it's advantages at the 2, 3 and 4. Charlotte has a minor edge at the 1 and the 5 and perhaps it's reserves, but it's hard to see them with anywhere near enough firepower to hang with the big three. The big story will be whether the Bobcats can finally win it's first playoff game as a franchise. Odds are slim.

Heat Steamroll Bobcats In Playoff Opener
Wade leads Heat with 35 points

Heat 113, Bobcats 85
Heat lead 1-0

For a couple minute there, Andrea Bargnani was sticking it to former teammate Chris Bosh, scoring 14 of his 32 points in the first quarter. Unfortunately, that was more than the entire team could manage in the second quarter, and the Heat ended up winning big. Behind a huge game from Dwyane Wade, Miami dominated the Bobcats, who simply didn't have enough firepower or any way to stop the big three.

Luol Deng got in quick foul trouble trying to guard LeBron, and despite a very good game from Bargnani, the game was never close after halftime.

Bradley Rice (SA) wins Rookie of the Year

Spurs fans were given some reason to cheer after a tiebreaker with the Blazers kept them out of the post-season this year. #1 overall pick Bradley Rice follows in the footsteps of fellow Spurs #1 picks David Robinson and Tim Duncan by winning rookie of the year. While Portland and #2 overall pick Abraham Huffman will be lambs to be slaughtered by OKC, a Spur takes home some hardware. Rice led all rookies in scoring by a wide margin with 22.9 points per game, on .419% shooting from the field.

Not a good way to start the series. Wade had a big game, while LeBron was near triple-double. Bargnani played well, but that wasn't enough. Hope you'll get revenge next game (Y)

Different Game, Same Result
Another big game from Bargnani not enough

Miami shot 56% from the field and forced the Bobcats to commit twelve more turnovers than they did as they once again blow out the Charlotte Bobcats. This game was a drubbing from start to finish as LeBron was unstoppable, and Bargnani was the only Bobcat able to consistently get his shot off.

The Bobcats will return home for games 3 & 4 and will hope to finally win its first playoff game in franchise history. Charlotte is 0-6 in playoff games as a franchise. "You know, we're really more focused on seeing how Atlanta-Orlando shakes out", commented LeBron James after the win.
