The Atlanta Hawks are closing in on their second significant trade of this early offseason, agreeing in principle Monday to trade forward Marvin Williams for Utah Jazz point guard Devin Harris, according to sources briefed on the discussions.

The deal, which is pending league approval, would mean that new Hawks general manager Danny Ferry will have shed Atlanta's two most onerous contracts -- Joe Johnson and Williams -- in his first week-plus on the job.

Marvin has shown improvement and just entering his prime. And I didn't like how Harris has been in recent few years. Player to player wise, Marvin is a keeper imo.

Seemingly the Hawks are doing everything in their power to give Josh Smith green light to do anything he wants to on the court. Are they pushing it to become a lottery team from playoffs team?

Harris is an expiring contract. Williams is an average starter making Asik money.

Utah needed Harris off the team for Williams to pick up his option and accept the trade. The question is whether Marvin Williams is worth having. He is a combo forward and might see some time at the 4 if they deal Millsap and/or Al Jefferson. Utah should be getting a pick or something for the extra money.

Harris is likely dealt or bought out by the deadline since they have Jeff Teague and seem to be going for 2013 cap space.

Yep. We all saw their best and it was 1st or 2nd round exit for several years now. I can envision the Pacer walking down the same path in a few years, starting with giving out near or max contract to Hibbert.

That is just mean. At least give George some time to develop and a full season with George hill at pg. as long as they hibbert they should be giving the heat fits.

Can Brooklyn Still Get Dwight Howard?

The financial fallout from the move to Brooklyn has been overwhelmingly positive—even more than originally projected—and that means there’s a good chance this organization could spend the way the Lakers and Knicks do. But at the end of the day, the Nets still have to find a deal that works for Orlando, and apparently what they’re putting out there right now just isn’t good enough.

Howard is from Atlanta and is very good friends with Josh Smith. That’s a possibility now, especially now that they’ve got the cap space to potentially make a run at Chris Paul should he hit free agency a year from now. Or maybe a trade to L.A. keeps Paul in a Clippers uniform, because those two with Blake Griffin would be undeniably nasty.

There are options here for Howard, but Brooklyn seems like the least of them at present. The Nets haven’t ended their pursuit of Dwight just yet, despite the numbers saying it looks impossible financially.

It’s not impossible, just improbable, and those odds are just good enough for Brooklyn to keep at it.

But we don't know what that russian dude with billions of dollars is capable of yet.
