If he had not gotten injured and continued to perform well, I don't think it would be out of the question. His media attention and the surrounding hype faded with his injury. It would be a gamble to put Lin on the cover this year.

There might've been an outside chance but I still reckon an established "superstar" level player would've been their first choice, even amidst all the Linsanity.

Yao has nothing to do with the cover and I did not even say ... I talked about how the Yao Ming effect on the Asian market. The same is the case with Lin. This is the main argument why I claim that Lin could be on the cover of

Like I said ... Yao Ming effect can be applied only in the case of Lin otherwise. It was not anything bad. This is my subjective position and time will tell.

I believe that we are not talking solely about the game ... Basketball as a sport in the instant case, transformed the NBA 2k13. Ok, I read somewhere that the 2k financially limited. Is it not a great way to gain a great deal of additional fans to such a move? I personally believe that even Yao (in its time) and Lin have no high season behind him to be on the cover. But as an economist by profession, I believe that the 2k run marketing and not just the wishes of fans ...

You think they will be like NBA Live and have different cover athletes for a certain region/country? I think that will help improve sales a lot.

It's possible, they did have multiple covers last year after all and from memory a few different Kobe cover designs were put to a fan vote for NBA 2K10. I don't know that they'd bother with regional covers but they might have a couple of different limited edition covers to choose from, perhaps a historical one (likely MJ) and one with a current star.

true, such things significantly increase sales and believe that it will be the best marketing move They are, for example to create an unprecedented 2K11 but again the ideal thing that literally makes people buy the game - Michael Jordan! In addition, they are perfect to add a little 2k12 and innovation. It is now expected something about these cover and of course, still some small innovations that will spice up the story and we have: new-old game but it will be named NBA 2k13

Presumably they've signed the cover athlete within the last couple of weeks so the outcome of the Finals won't have an impact on their choice. It would be appropriate if one game ends up featuring Durant and the other LeBron, though.

After seeing that commercial it could be another 3 choice cover with Rose, Griffin, and Kobe. Or all three on the same cover.

Although they've repeated cover players before, as recently as last year no less, my guess would be Rose or Griffin over Kobe since he had the 2K10 cover. If nothing else, I'm assuming all three will be involved in future commercials for NBA 2K13.

Seems that Blake Griffin,Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant are going to be on the 2k13 cover,not sure if all together or on different covers like MJ,Magic and Bird this year. The official 2k announcement,with a clue poster shows a griffin,a bunch of roses and a tarantula(-->Durantula maybe)
Though there's still the Brooklyn Bridge in the top of the image,which could still mean something. The article on pastapadre states that this might mean that Jordan is still going to be included in the cover,as Brooklyn is his birthplace.
