Seattle SuperSonics 2003-04 Season: Long Season Ahead

Image
Will the Sonics Stride into Having a Season to Remember?

By Kenneth F. Bunting

OCTOBER 27, 2004

SEATTLE, WA (AP)-The Seattle Supersonics have been through a tough training camp and will have their home opener tomorrow against Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

This team has went through a few losing seasons the past few years and they really want to have a great year in the 2003-04 season. "If we can give the fans a great year, and if they support us, we can do alot of things throughout the season. Our goal is to get to 41 games and if we can do that, we can start thinking playoffs," Coach Nate McMillan said.

With the new additions of Ray Allen and Ronald Murray who was acquired in a trade that sent future hall of famer Gary Payton to the Milwaukee Bucks, the Sonics are looking to all-star Ray Allen for answers. "Last season we didn't get a chance to get in a rhythm to really make a playoff push because of the late trade. This year since we have been through training camp, it will give us a better taste of reaching that goal of 41 wins," Ray Allen said.

Rashard Lewis has also boosted his game up and will be a key factor to the Sonics success this season. With the 1-2 punch of Allen and Lewis, the Sonics can become a very dangerous team.

There has been a few question marks on how hard center Jerome James want to work to get to his full potential. "During training camp I have seen alot of improvement from him. He has really been working hard over the summer and I think he can be an all-around double-double type of guy if he puts his heart into it. If he continues to work well with the trainers and show some effort out on the court, he will be very good in a matter of time," McMillan discussed.

With the new 2003-04 rosters recieved yesterday evening, here is how your Seattle Supersonics will look this season:

C-Jerome James
PF-Vladimir Radmanovic
SF-Rashard Lewis
SG-Ray Allen
PG-Brent Barry

6-Ronald Murray
7-Antonio Daniels
8-Luke Ridnour
9-Reggie Evans
10-Calvin Booth
11-Vitaly Potapenko
12-Ansu Sesay

IR1-Nick Collison
IR2-Richie Frahm
IR3-Leon Smith

Nick Collison suffered a terrible back injury which will leave him out for most of the 2003-04 season. During training camp he was caught going for a dunk in a scrimmage as Calvin Booth tried to jump in the air to block it. Collison fell on his back extremely hard and had to go to the paramedics.

You can watch your Seattle Supersonics tomorrow night on ESPN for the home opening game.

Hi, I'm Kevin Frazier along with Greg Anthony, Bill Lambier, Tim Legler and the man himself, Stephen A. Smith. We are opening up the 2003-04 season with great matchup between the Seattle Supersonics and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Greg Anthony what do you like about this matchup?

Image

The fact that we are going to watch the rookie phenom Lebron James is what so exciting about this matchup. I can't wait to see him go up against Ray Allen tonight. The Sonics are a great shooting team and if their hot, they will be very tough to beat.

Image

Well I have the same answer as Greg over here. We want to see Lebron! There has been so much talk about him and we just have to see them. We have to talk about the Seattle Supersonics though. They have really worked hard for this season and with their new format of winning 41 games and start talking about the playoffs is excellent. I like how Nate McMillan has fixed that up for the team.

Bill Lambier: I want to see some action and some big man getting mean under the glass tonight. I also think we will see plenty of high-flying action with guys like Lebron and Rashard Lewis in the game. It will be a great matchup and it's going to be fun to watch.

Image

If you want to know who is going to win the game, it will definitely be the Sonics. They have alot more talent than you think and they really have more talent than the Cleveland Cavaliers. I'm pretty sure Lebron will give you some action, but will he get his team to the playoffs is what I want to see. That's it!

Image

Alright viewers, the game will be coming to you live from Key Arena where the Seattle Supersonics take on the Cleveland Cavaliers. You heard it from Stephen A. that the Sonics will beat the Cavaliers tonight. Stay tuned for more action after the game.

Nice Pre-game recap. should be an exicting game. im doing my dynasty with the sonics too. there starting 5 is alright but dam the 2nd unit is mostly gaurds with a team of daniels, murray and ridnour.
one must play SF in the 2nd unti to be effective. you might think about moving rashard to PF when facing weaker PF's and having B.barry at SF and moving ridnour to PG.
this is my lineup against mostly east teams. James,Lewis, barry, allen, ridnour. i know Nate Mcmillian used this lineup this past season seens i do live in seattle. i watch all there games. best of luck on your season.

Antonio Daniels and the Sonics had a solid win to start the season off on the right foot.

OCTOBER 28, 2003

SEATTLE, WA (AP)-What can you say about Jerome James? He was a big man that had alot of potential, and is the closest thing to looking like Shaq. Late in the 3rd quarter, the Cavaliers took Zydrunas Ilgauskas out to get some rest. Jerome James took over the game around that time. No one could stop his inside game as he was taking Battie and Boozer down in the paint and dominating them. He scored 12 or his 16 pts in the 3rd quarter. He was also able to grab 16 rebs and block 4 shots in the game. "It was an all out effort. I want this team to win, and if I can contribute in some way at anytime during the game, I will do it," James commented.

Rashard Lewis was the main man in this game as he got Player of the Game honors. He scored 25pts, grabbed 5 rebs and dished out 4 asts. "If we we're going to win this game, Lewis, Allen and a role player was going to have to play big. That's what happened tonight and they took the game into their hands and played great basketball," Coach McMillan said.

The game was close all the way, until the Sonics broke lose late in the 4th quarter. Lewis had a thunderous slam that made the arena shake. The momentum was on the Sonics side and there was nothing the Cavaliers could do.

Lebron James had a game where he posted up 30 pts, 3 asts and 2 rebs. "I wasn't nervous in the game until the end when I had alot of pressure on me. The Sonics we're on the run and it was tough to get anything done with the fans screaming. It was the NBA atmosphere I was expecting sooner or later, but not the first game of the season," Lebron explained. "Lebron played great to have so much hype on his back. It wasn't all his fault the reason why we lost. As a team we have to improve our rebounding because the Sonics completely killed us on the boards," Coach Paul Silas said.

Ray Allen was a big spark in the game scoring 22 pts on 9-16 shooting from the field. He hit some key shots in the 4th quarter to keep the Sonics ahead of the Cavs. Radmanovic was the main factor in the 1st quarter for the Sonics. He scored 8 pts and grabbed 3 rebs in that quarter. He finished with 16 pts and 8 rebs in the game. Brent Barry was a flamethrower this game. He shot 3-5 from behind the arc and had a 4 point play in the game. He finished with 12 pts, 3 asts and 3 stls.

Ilgauskas had 19 pts, 8 rebs and 2 blks in the game. Eric Williams was a big help for the Cavaliers as he finished with 16 pts. Boozer had a double-double with 10 pts and 10 rebs. Jeff McInnis dished out a career-high 15 asts in the game.

Hi everyone, and welcome back to NBA Fastbreak. We have just finished the game and the Seattle Supersonics we're the ones to capture the win. Stephen A, can you give us your thoughts on tonight's game?

Image

"This game was a complete mess for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tell me this, how you lose a game when you shoot a better percentage from the field, had less turnovers and more assists than the opposite team? It was their REBOUNDING! If you can't rebound, your team isn't going anywhere. The Sonics outrebounded the Cavs 44-31. It's insane for something like that to happen. Lebron James was a key factor for the Cavs. He really showed me something tonight, but I won't judge him just by this one game. He will have to do a little more throughout the season for me to give him alot of credit. Jerome James really played some basketball tonight. The Supersonics are heading in the right direction with a good season open win."

Image

Well it looks like the Cavaliers need to get to work. We hope you all have a great night and we will see you later on in the week.

Well, I was basically testing the lineups out. When I sub, I don't sub the entire 2nd unit in. I may put Murray and Daniels in and live Lewis and Rad in. Take James out and put Booth in the game. Then after that qtr would end, I would take Lewis and Rad out and put Barry, James, Allen,Ridnour and Evans maybe. It's just the way I sub to make it where I won't have such a little lineup. I did put Lewis in at PF for a bit in the game where Battie and Boozer were in. Lewis did pretty well against Boozer. I will try that you said about putting Lewis at the PF position. I may change my lineup in some games just so I will match up well too. Thanks for the advice.

Any thoughts on the game or dynasty? :)

Hi, I'm David Aldridge and welcome to tonight's version of NBATV. We are just getting our 2003-04 NBA season kicked off and we have a great game on our hands tonight. We have the Seattle Supersonics vs. Boston Celtics. The Celtics have started off with a great 2-0 record and are playing pretty good basketball so far. The Sonics came off a victory a few nights ago beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-91. Rashard Lewis played great in that game with 25 pts, 5 rebs and 4 asts. Rookie phenom Lebron James also had a great outing with 30 pts. I'm here with Fred Carter who will give our virtual GM's something to look forward to in tonight's game.

Fred Carter: Ok, if you want to choose a PG for tonight's matchup let it be Brent Barry. He can do it all just about. He can shoot the long range jumper, dish the ball and get rebounds. He can be the guy to get a triple double on any given night. For your two guard, I would choose Paul Pierce for tonight, basically because he is a superstar and is a very great scorer. At the SF position I say Rashard Lewis. He had a great season opener against Cleveland and you can expect him to play well tonight as well. At the PF position I will give that to Vladimir Radmanovic. He had a great 16 pt and 8 reb game against the Cavs and is the better man between him and McCarty. Finally for the C spot, it will be pretty tough between Lafrentz and James. I would say Lafrentz just because he can shoot the outside jumper and can cause some problems for James tonight. Those are your players for tonight's game that you would want to pick.

Image

Ok thank you Fred for the advice you gave the virtual GM's out there. We will see you all after tonight's game on the 1st of November. The Seattle Supersonics will host the Boston Celtics.

Marcus Banks and the Celtics couldn't get in a groove against the Sonics during the game.

NOVEMBER 1, 2003

SEATTLE, WA (AP)-The Sonics came to play tonight as they put a beaten on the Boston Celtics. They started the game off in the first quarter winning 24-13. Rashard Lewis started off great with 9 pts and 4 rebs. It was the bench player that definitely made this game very one-sided. Antonio Daniels had a great game with 17 pts and 5 asts.

Seattle did a little switching up in their lineup for tonight's game. They moved Rashard Lewis to the PF position, Barry at the SF spot and put Ridnour at the starting PG spot. It looks like this lineup works very well. "We decided how we we're going to play the Celtics and that was small. Boston had McCarty playing the PF position, so we decided to let Lewis play their tonight. We will only make do this when we really need to. I was also just testing out some lineups the first few games so I could see who to go with for most of the season," Coach McMillan said.

At the power forward position, Rashard Lewis earned Player of the Game honors with 21 pts and grabbing 9 rebs. Lewis has been playing great these first 2 games of the season and looks very healthy.

Ray Allen was the 2nd leading scorer for the Sonics scoring 20 pts, grabbing 4 rebs and dishing out 3 asts. "When they tried to help out down low against Vladimir and James, they left me open which led to easy jump shots for me," Allen said. With Radmanovic coming off the bench he produced just as well as being a starter. He had 11 pts and 4 rebs.

Ridnour was one of the main guys out there tonight along with Antonio Daniels. Ridnour played very solid with 11 pts, 4 asts and 1 TO. "I felt great in the starting lineup. I was glad the coach put me there to see how I reacted in the lineup," Ridnour said. Ronald Murray was also solid off the bench with 12 pts in the game. Jerome James scored 7 pts, but grabbed 10 boards in the game.

Boston had 4 guys with double figures. Paul Pierce led the team with 24 pts and scored 9 of the team's 13 pts in the 1st quarter. Jumaine Jones stepped his game up scoring 18 pts. Ricky Davis put in 17 pts off the bench. Walter McCarty scored 12 pts.

Hi, we're back and the Seattle Supersonics overpowered the Celtics tonight by winning 112-89. Here are a few key stats from the game. The Sonics shot 51% from the field, while the Celtics shot 49%. The Boston Celtics attempted 41 3 pointers in that contest. Yes, I said 41 and they only made 14 of them. Seattle outrebounded the Celtics 48-27 and 17 of those 48 rebounds we're offensive. Last but not least, the Sonics bench outscored the Celtics bench 42-24. We are here now with Rashard Lewis on our live cam.

Image -Rashard Lewis

Aldridge: How's it going Rashard? You had a great game tonight.

Lewis: I'm doing fine. Thank you.

Aldridge: How did it feel to play the PF spot tonight? Do you like playing that position better than playing at the SF position?

Lewis: Well it all depends on who I'm facing. Tonight's matchup was a little more my type of player. He wasn't a big threat in the post. Sometimes we may have to switch up like that in different matchup situations because Coach loves to play around with different matchups. Naw, I like the SF position better because I know I won't have to rebound half as much at the SF position.

Aldridge:How did your teams bench play, playout tonight?

Lewis: I was glad they came in and did a great job. Daniels, Murray and Rad all played great for us off the bench. They we're very solid and never choked during the game.

Aldridge: How well has your team chemistry so far in the season?

Lewis: Better than I thought it would be. Nobody is complaining and most of us we're on the same team last year. It's a matter of taking one game at a time and listening to the coach. If we do that, our team chemistry will be great all throughout the season.

Aldridge: Final question because I know you all have to head out to Philadelphia for your next game. Do you think your team will get to your goal mark 41 games?

Lewis: (HAHAHA) Well, I'm not going to jinx us right now. I will answer that question when we get mid-way through the season.

Aldridge: (HA) Alright Rashard thanks. Have a great flight and be safe.

Lewis: Thank you and I will.

Well thats it for tonight ladies and gentlemen. We will see you next time on NBATV.

ESPN NBA Fastbreak

Image

Hi, this is Kevin Frazier along with Greg Anthony, Tim Legler, Bill Lambier and Stephen A. Smith once again here in New York for NBA Fastbreak. We have another game on our hands tonight which includes the Seattle Supersonics vs. Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers have a 1-1 record, while the Sonics have started off with a surprising 2-0 record. Rashard Lewis has been in the main man on this team averaging 23 ppg in the first 2 contests. What do you guys have think about tonight's game and what will be the key factors for both teams?

Image

Well for the Sixers, they will have to get AI involved somehow in the game. AI won't be able to win this game by himself, so role players like Glenn Robinson, Kenny Thomas, Eric Snow and Dalembert will have to play well. The Sonics have been playing great these first 2 games of the season, but they have only been challenged by Eastern teams so far who aren't very strong. They've had the Cavs, Celtics and now the Sixers. The good thing about that is they are taking care of the teams they suppose to beat. They have really responded well so far in the season.

Image

The Sixers will need Glenn Robinson to have a big game if they want to win. With his scoring mentality, they can even make the playoffs. If this team show some heart tonight and play hard, they can win this game. They will have to shut down all of the Sonics role players. That's how the Celtics messed up the other night when they played Seattle. If Seattle role players get involved in the game, they will be very tough to beat.

Bill Lambier:If the Sixers big men get involed in the game, such as Dalembert, Kenny Thomas and Derrick Coleman, they will give Seattle a tough time. Seattle will need a good performance from their bench if they want to go 3-0 in the season.

Image

Well, you know I'm a Philly native, but I'm not going to give the Philadelphia 76ers any credit tonight unless they show some heart out there and give the Sonics are good fight. If they do that, I would most definitely give them credit. Philly has been a team that hasn't showed any heart after reaching the Finals in 2001. They seem pretty dead and with the coaching changes, I don't know how well this team will react this season without Larry Brown. As for the Sonics, they haven't impressed me thus far, because all they have played we're Eastern teams that aren't in the top elite group. When they start playing some pretty good West teams and some elite teams in the East, I will give them some more credit.

Image

Well, all of you are right about your comments. The Sonics have only played Eastern teams thus far, but you can't doubt that they have taken care of business. The Seattle Supersonics vs. Philadelphia 76ers are up next.

NOVEMBER 4, 2003

SEATTLE, WA (AP)-Rashard Lewis was the key guy in this game. Whoever thought we would have such an exciting game this early in the season?

With 41.2 seconds, the Sonics gave the ball down low to Jerome James. He committed a foul and hit both FT's at the line. On the Sixers next possession, Allen Iverson was guarded tightly by Flip Murray. Kenny Thomas got the ball and forced a 12 footer that did not go in. Seattle had the ball with the shot clock still running with 25.1 seconds remaining. The Sonics called a timeout with 13.2 seconds to set up a play for Rashard Lewis who had just entered the game. The Sonics set an iso for Lewis against McKie. Lewis made a few moves and decided to shoot a fadeaway that went in with 0.2 seconds left on the clock. "I played the best defense I could on him. My hand was right in his face and when he the ball went in, there was nothing I could do," said a disappointing McKie.

This game was one to remember for the season because of the exciting finish. Coach Nate McMillan had made another starting lineup adjustment for this game. He ended up starting Daniels against Iverson, and putting Allen at the SF position. Barry was playing the PG spot and Lewis was at PF. James was the usually man in the middle. Daniels held Iverson to 18 pts, and Iverson couldn't get a hot streak going except for the 1st quarter when he scored 9 pts.

Ronald "Flip" Murray was one of the main guys in tonight's game that really helped contribute to this win. He had 13 pts and 4 rebs off the bench for the game, but he played great defense on AI in the closing minutes of the 4th quarter. "I was just trying to play my best because I wanted us to win this game very badly. We have some tough Western teams coming up and we really needed to get this win on the road," said Murray. Murray also hit a key layup that put the Sonics up by 2 at the end of the 3rd quarter with 0.1 seconds left.

Image
Iverson and the Sixers we're heartbroken after the game-winning shot by Rashard Lewis with 0.2 seconds left.
Philadelphia shot a better percentage from the field than the Sonics, but still fell to get the W. The 76ers shot 51%, while the Sonics shot 38% from the field. Seattle did outrebound the Sixers 49-36 though.

Jerome James was the Player of the Game, and had 16 pts, 16 rebs and 5 blks. "I'm so glad to see him playing to his potential now. He is really getting the hang of it, and I can see us going very far with him playing so well," Coach McMillan stated. Rashard Lewis led the Sonics with 25 pts ad 7 rebs. Allen did his normal damage with 21 pts. "We are feeling great heading into this tough road game against the Kings, so this was a great win for us tonight," Allen said.

After talking to Rashard Lewis, this what he had to say about hitting the game winner shot with 0.2 seconds left. "I couldn't believe it myself when the ball went in. I was so shocked that I didn't know what else to do, but jump up and down. It was a memorable moment, and I can't name one time that I have done anything more dramatic than that. I felt so good after the game and that shot could have motivated us for the whole season."

Hi everyone and welcome back to NBA Fastbreak. Wow! What a game from Philadelphia. Rashard Lewis hit the game winning FG with 0.2 seconds left on the clock. He led the Sonics with 25 pts and 7 rebs. Kenny Thomas led the Sixers with 22 pts and 7 rebs. Stephen A, what you think of that remarkable shot?

Image

There's nothing else to say, but it went in. It was a great shot by Rashard, but he even said it himself that he didn't even know if it was going in or not. I have to give him credit for making that shot. BUT! if he didn't make that shot, and the game went into OT, the Sixers would have got the Sonics. The Sixers we're playing too well for them to end up winning that game in OT in Philly. The Sixers really came to play, and I will give them alot of credit, because they did what they had to do. It was just a great shot by Rashard Lewis that broke their hearts at the end. If the Sixers can play like this every game this season, they can make the playoffs. As for the Sonics, I want to see them when they play Sacramento. I would like to see if they can have that same intensity as they've had from the past 3 games then they may come out with a strong victory.

Image

Well folks, you have witness a murder tonight. Rashard Lewis shot was still a great shot. Your final score was Seattle Supersonics 93, Philadelphia 76ers 91. Thank you for watching and we will see you later on in the week.

ESPN NBA Fastbreak

Image

Hi everyone and welcome to NBA Fastbreak on this fine Wednesday evening. We are working another day as we hosted a game last night that included the Seattle Supersonics vs. Philadelphia 76ers. That game ending in exciting fashion with Rashard Lewis hitting a game winning shot with 0.2 secs left. I'm joined by Greg Anthony, Tim Legler, Bill Lambier and yours trule Stephen A. Smith. We are here tonight because the undefeated Seattle Supersonics are hosting the Sacramento Kings in a great matchup. What are the keys for tonight's game and what will you expect to see tonight Greg?

Image

In order for the Kings to win, Doug Christie will have to have a good game. If he doesn't produce a good amount of points and do what he does on the defensive end, then I don't see the Kings winning tonight. Seattle is slowly becoming a dangerous team and I favor them in this matchup tonight. Rashard Lewis vs. Peja Stoajkovic will be one hell of a matchup tonight.
Image

Expect the PG matchup to be a big factor tonight. You have a solid PG on the Kings side in Bibby, but who will the Sonics go with tonight? It will be tough to tell becausce they have been switching up lineups alot each game they have played so far. The Sonics will need solid PG play from whoever is playing that position.

Bill Lambier: If Brad Miller and Vlade Divac don't come to play the Sacramento Kings will most likely be in trouble. They will need some solid contribution from both of them to win this game. We all know the big 2 from Seattle will get it done in Lewis and Allen, but they will need a few more guys to help them out tonight if they planning on winning. It will be a great matchup and I can't wait.

Image

You know I have been waiting for this matchup for a while now! The Seattle Supersonics will finally play an elite team and I can't wait to see what happens. I just want to see can the Sonics play with the big dawgs in the league and how will they perform under the pressure in Arco Arena. Enough talking, I'm ready for this game.

Image

We here ya Stephen A, but let me give a few game notes for tonight. Rashard Lewis is averaging 23.7 ppg and 7 rpg thus far in the season. Jerome James has been a key factor with 13 ppg and 14 rpg. For the Kings, Webber is leading the team with 22.8 ppg and 10 rpg. Peja is scoring 17 ppg and is shooting 45% from 3 point range. He has attempted 24 three pointers and made 11 of them. Sonics better watch out for his hot shooting tonight. We will see you after the game.

NOVEMBER 5, 2003

SEATTLE, WA (AP)-When you hear the story of this game, you would wonder how the Kings stoled this one in overtime. The game was close throughout all 3 quarters.

In the 1st quarter, the Sonics started out by missing their first 7 shots in the game, but at they end they cut the lead to 2 points leaving the Kings with a 23-21 lead. Lewis was the bright spot in the 1st half scoring 18 pts. Starting the 2nd half, the Sonics went on an 11-0 run led by Rashard Leweis who scored 7 of those points. The Kings still had a tight lead and we're up by 1 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Seattle had scored 30 points in that quarter and outplayed the Kings.

The thing about this game was that the Sonics turned the ball over 18 times, while the Kings only had 9 turnovers. "That really cost us the game we're the turnovers. Some of them we're unforced errors and we really need to work on that for more games to come," Coach McMillan said.

Nearing the end of the 4th quarter, the game was knotted at 96-96 all with 1:00 remaining in the game. Brent Barry had the ball, but had it stolen by backup guard Bobby Jackson with 47.1 seconds. Peja Stoajkovic missed a 3 point shot with 36.9 seconds left in the game. On the Sonics next possession, Lewis nailed a clutch 3 pointer to put Seattle up 99-96 with 30.4 seconds. Doug Christie took the ball to the time and missed a contested shot. Booth got the rebound and was fouled. Booth missed both FT's which was unbelievable at the time.

Stoajkovic had the ball on the Kings next possession and got fouled while going inside to get an easy 2. Peja made the 1st FT, but missed the 2nd. Chris Webber sneaked in and got the offensive rebound. Both Lewis and Jerome James surrounded Webber and lost the ball, but got it back somehow. He shot a 17 foot jumper and tied the game up 99-99 with 10.7 seconds remaining. Seattle set up the same play as they did last night for Lewis. Peja was on Lewis as he shot a 16 foot jumper off balance and he missed it at the buzzer. Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis we're dominating the game with a combined total of 65 pts. Webber had 21 pts through regulation. Mike Bibby scored 18 pts, while Christie had a surprising game with 17.

In overtime the Sonics played like they we're restless as the Kings had a 9 point advantage over them. Ray Allen did not give up as he nailed three 3 pointers to close the gap to 119-115 with 26.9 seconds left. As Seattle called a timeout, Allen came out and nailed another 3 with 19.8 seconds left to cut the lead to 1 point.

Seattle immediately fouled Doug Christie and sent him to the line with 19 seconds. Christie nailed both FT's very clam. Seattle had no timeouts remaining so Ray Allen was the guy to advance the ball upcourt. Booth set a nice pick for him to free him up for a wide open 3. Allen shot the ball and missed the shot with 10.4 seconds left. "I had a great look at the shot, but it was jutst one of those times where the game didn't go your way at the end," Allen said. Bibby was fouled and he went to the line to only hit both FT's to give the Kings 5 point lead. Flip Murray came down to hit a 3 with 3.9 seconds left. The Kings kept the ball away from the Sonics and ran out the clock to win the game 125-123.

Mike Bibby was the Player of the Game with 22 pts, 9 asts and 5 rebs. Ray Allen was the only Sonic to score in OT, with the exception of Flip Murray and Rashard Lewis. Allen finished with 45 pts (12 in overtime), 6-13 from 3 point range, 7 rebs and 4 asts. Rashard Lewis finished with 36 pts, 4-8 from downtown, 6 rebs and 5 asts. Murray was the only spark off the bench scoring 13 pts. Jerome James had a double-double performance with 10 pts and 19 rebs. Radmanovic was able to grab 12 rebs in the game. Chris Webber led the Kings with 25 pts on 12-13 shooting from the field and grabbed 8 boards. CHristie was the key factor in the game and scored 21 pts. Peja Stojakovic scored 18 pts, 5 asts and 4 rebs. Bobby Jackson came off the bench for the Kings to score 14 pts behind PG Mike Bibby.

Seattle shot 42% in the game, while the Kings shot an amazing 58%.

Hi everyone, and welcome back from an exciting finish in Arco Arena. The Supersonics fell short of winning their 4th straight game as the Kings knocked them off in overtime 125-123 in a high scoring affair. What are your thoughts about this game Stephen A, and how well do you think Seattle performed as they finally faced an elite team in the NBA?

Image

Seattle came out and did their thing. What kept them from winning this game, was the fact that Ray Allen was basically the only one scoring in the overtime period which really hurt them. He was almost able to do it all himself, but in the final seconds he missed the 3 point shot that could've sent the game into double OT. I was reall surprised at Rashard Lewis during the OT period because he only scored 3 pts. If he could've produced just as well as Ray Allen, then the Sonics would've won this game tonight. The Kings played like the Kings as usual. They ran a fast pace game and got the score all the way up in the 120's. They knew that Seattle couldn't keep up with their high-powered offense, so their strategy was to go in and score as many points as possible. Seattle will be a good team this year and they showed it tonight, by giving the Kings all they had to beat them in overtime.

Image

Stephen A, finally given the Sonics some love here. This has been a great night of basketball, and we will see you all later on in the week. Goodnight ladies and gentlmen.

Fox Sports Net Pre-Game Update

with Lisa Guerrero

Image

Hi everyone, I'm Lisa Guerrero and we a game on our NBA schedule tonight for all of the northwest coast audience. It's the Portland Trailblazers at Seattle Supersonics in Key Arena. The Seattle Supersonics have been on a roll to start the season, but where heartbroken on Wednesday night by the Sacramento Kings who beat them in overtime 125-123. "We are looking to get back on Friday against the Blazers and work on handling the ball alot better," Coach McMillan said.

As for the Blazers, they hold a 4-1 record and Zach Randolph is becoming one of the most improved players in the league in the early season. He leads the team with 23.6 ppg and 10.4 rpg and has the Blazers on track.
"Coach Cheeks really helped me through training camp and got me good shape for the season. I thank him for helping me turn into a great inside presence," Randolph said.

Hope you enjoy the game and we will have post game interviews from the players after the game.

Throwback night in Seattle gave Ray Allen and the Sonics the wisdom to hold off the Blazers comeback.
By Kenneth F. Bunting

NOVEMBER 7, 2003

SEATTLE, WA (AP)-The Seattle Supersonics had on their throwback jerseys for the 1st time this season and had them for a good reason. We're they luck for the Sonics? Whatever it was, the Sonics kept the Blazers from winning this game in a tremendous comeback in the 4th quarter.

Seattle was outscored 29-21 in the 4th quarter. They had led all game long and their largest lead was 16. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Sonics led 72-61. Rashard Lewis was the main guy once again as he made some very clutch plays at the end of the game to keep the Sonics ahead.

The turn-off in this game was the Sonics 3 point shooting. They shot 0-21 from 3 point range and it was just a terrible scene. "I don't understand what happened to us in that game. It was embarrasing for us not to hit at least one 3 pointer, but luckily we came out with the W," Brent Barry said.

What did help Seattle was their FT shooting at the line. They attempted 30 FT's and made 27 of them. The Blazers attempted only 14 FT's and made 11 of those. Maybe if the Blazers would've hit all of their FT's the game could've been alot more closer. "This was a bunch of BS for us. As much as we went inside to the basket, we only had a few calls, and I know Seattle had more than half the attempts we had because they we're at the line all night long," Derek Anderson said.

Rashard Lewis was the Player of the Game with 25 pts, 11-13 from the field and grabbing 12 boards. Allen scored 24 pts for Seattle. Jerome James had another double-double with 15 pts and 10 rebs. Brent Barry chipped in with 11 pts. Antonio Daniels was the only spark off the bench for the Sonics tonight scoring 9 pts and dishing out 6 asts. Radmanovic shot terrible from the field scoring 5 pts on 1-11 shooting, but he did grab 11 rebs.

Damon Stoudamire led the Blazers with 28 pts and 8 asts. Derek Anderson and Shareef Abdur-Rahim both scored 14 pts apiece. Zach Randolph was played tight all game long and could barely get a shot off. He scored 7 pts on 2-4 shooting in 30 minutes of play. He also grabbed 10 rebs in the game.

Fox Sports Net After-Game Coverage

with Lisa Guerrero

Image

Hello once again, I'm Lisa Guerrero and you have just watched the Seattle Supersonics take on the Portland Trailblazers as the Sonics came out in a close one 93-90. Let's go to the press conference where Sonics coach Nate McMillan is speaking at this time.

Reporter: How well did your team play under pressure in the 4th quarter?

McMillan: Not very well, because I told them in the huddle to not let this team comeback. You must take care of the ball and do the smart things to finish this game out calmly. They got out there and did the exact opposite because Portland got in our heads and forced us to make mistakes.

Reporter: Can you explain why your team went 0-21 from 3 point range tonight?

McMillan: Well, there's nothing to say, but we couldn't hit the ocean if we we're standing 5 feet away from it. It was very frustrating seeing a missed shot after another missed shot. We will work hard on that in practice tomorrow morning so we can't repeat that same performance again.

Reporter: How do you feel about playing a back-to-back against the same team at their arena tomorrow night? You know many teams aren't successful on back-to-back games against the same team.
McMillan: I will always have confidence in my team no matter what the odds are. If we go in there and take care of business, then we can come out with win. It's not an easy thing to do, but with the work ethic we can put in, we can win this game.

Reporter: That's all we have for today. Thank you Coach.

McMillan: Your welcome.
