Transferring Files

Does anyone know if (and/or how) I can copy my Live 2000 files (franchises, created players, created teams, etc.) from one harddrive and then transfer those files to a new cpu? In other words, are Live 2000 files "retrievable" . . . can I "write" them onto a CD or save them on a floppy and then upload them from that medium for play, after installing the Live 2000 software on a new harddrive? Without damaging the files, that is . . .?

Any insight is highly appreciated.

of course, that trick works well. Just don't forget for instance to save the roster too if you save cyberfaces

Do floppy disks contain sufficient space to save Live 2000 files? I'm attempting to transfer two main rosters -- with 33 or 34 created teams and approximately 350 of my own created players -- and three franchise files. No cyberfaces or patches. Should 3 1/2 floppy disks work for this amount of data? Thanks much, Alex.

when it's all about rosters (without any added custom art) it shall be alright, as it's just DBF files and that doesn't take a lot of space. But if you include cyberfaces, jerseys or courts, you'd better save it on a CD-Rom, else you will run short of space too quickly.

And keep in mind that floppy disks are not very reliable supports, so make a backup on another floppy whenever you can. Also, you can zip your rosters to get extra space and decrease the risk of disk failure

Could someone walk me (in STEP BY STEP fashion) through transferring NBA LIVE 2000 data files from one hard-drive to another via floppy disk?

After installing Live 2000 on a new hard-drive, is it indeed possible to transfer saved franshises, created players and created teams to the new hard-drive; and if so, how do I access those transferred files (saved playes, teams and franchises) for gameplay on the new hard-drive?

I'm switching from Microsoft ME to an old version of MS 98. I appreciate any information provided in clear, simple STEP BY STEP format. Thanks.

If you're only talking of rosters and franchises, then it's pretty easy. All you have to do is to access to your saves directory, located in your Live 2000 Directory (by default C:\Program Files\EA Sports\NBA Live 2000. If you located it elsewhere but you don't know where, search the nbawin.exe file)

In your saves directory you will see different folders, each with three figures, each corresponding to a roster or a franchise in your game. The number of the directory is the same as the number you find in game, next to your save name.
Simply copy the folders you want on one or different floppies (depending how many rosters and franchises you want to save). You can zip them with WinZip for instance, it will take less room on your floppies.

Then once you've reinstalled the game on a new computer, copy the rosters on the saves directory on your live 2000 folder. That's all. Now all you have to do is to launch the game and go to load/save to see your rosters and franchises back.
