Congratulations on your 10000th post, Pdub. (Y)

It's becoming sorta like a ritual for people to either shit on Miami thread or make mockery out of Lebron on their milestone achievement. Hey, you wouldn't have had your milestone if it wasn't for the Heat. :D

volsey wrote:Lol this is just dumb now. You're on a relatively young team, who you say is contending. You want to win a championship, so you ask to be traded?

I don't know whether he didn't think things through, didn't expect it to blow into a huge story like this or whether there's other circumstances for him wanting to leave Orlando (and not just winning a championship). But I tell ya this whole situation is dumb. Every time I listen to an interview he's saying something different or contradicting himself.

"Like I've been telling management this whole time I just want out"
"Like I've been telling management this whole time it's completely up to them"
"Like I've been telling management this whole time I just want to cuddle with Deron WIlliams"
"Like I've been telling management this whole time I want to stay for the rest of the season"

Quit talking.

It seems he's in two minds about the whole situation. I'd say he's lost confidence in the front office - certainly understandable - and sees other opportunities out there that he'd like to be a part of. At the same time though he doesn't want to be the bad guy, the belligerent star demanding a trade, and probably still feels he has a place with and a sense of obligation to the Magic. I think it's a case of him being committed to the cause as long as he's with the Magic, but he's definitely keeping his options open. He's not going to force a trade by the deadline, but he's giving no assurances about staying beyond this season either.

I think he should do a parody on youtube if he decides to stay.

No way he can top Anthony Tolliver.

Rumours are saying Dwight will opt in.

Do we really have to go through one more season of this shit?

Possible. Dwight doesn't want to be traded so any new team he will go to will still have a good rotation of players. By opting in for next season with the Magic by the time he becomes a FA in 2013 the Nets will be in Brooklyn by then and much better for Dwight so he won't have to experience New Jersey as a Net. That is if Deron Williams stays with the Nets. Dwight is smart.

Or maybe he could skip the 2012-13 season and join to Brooklyn? with Deron, maybe the Top 10 pick of 2012 Draft and maybe a mid-level sign in the offseason, plus all Nets team in this season an Woala! you have a build team.

The Nets will be in Brooklyn beginning with the 2012/2013 season. I don't see Howard sitting out a whole year or part thereof, either. Either he opts in and we go through another year of "Is he staying, is he going or will he be traded first?" or he opts out and signs with the Nets/gets sent to the Nets in a sign-and-trade this offseason.

Why a whole year? Howard had the decision of taking his final year of his contract (2012-13) or not taking it and being a Free Agent at the end of this season.
Why Howard would sign and trade at the end of this season, if he had the possibility of go to Brooklyn/Mavs/Lakers being a FA?

He could simply go to the Nets at the end of this season (or the next if he opts in and stays with the Magic through the 2013 season), but a sign-and-trade would allow him to go to the Nets with a bigger contract, since the Magic can re-sign him for an extra year and for more money.

Yeah but if today isn't trade (and lose the oportunity of earn more money), then why he should sign and trade in the summer if he just can sign with a complete Brooklyn team instead of making Brooklyn weaker.

To make more money. If he's willing to forego that extra year on his contract and more money, obviously he doesn't have to be a part of sign-and-trade.

Supposedly he's opting in to that final year though, so if he leaves via free agency it won't be until 2013 after all.

At least that the Magic is eliminated again in the first round and request a trade

That's the thing, the saga continues through the offseason and into next year, though as I just posted in the Magic thread they've bought themselves a little more time to try and work things out. At least the issue can be put aside in the short term, or so it seems.

I actually see this scenario happening between New Jersey and Orlando, as we all know New Jersey being the likely destination for Dwight. Here's the trade that i see happening.

Orlando-First of all, Orlando needs a better, less injury prone point guard, so not only do i see Dwight Howard leaving orlando, but also Jameer Nelson. Though i don't think New Jersey wants to trade Deron Williams, they eventually will have to.

Orlando Trades:Dwight Howard, Jason Richardson and Jameer Nelson to New Jersey.
New Jersey Trades:Brook Lopez, Anthony Marrow and Deron Williams.

Fair? In a way yes for and in a way now. No, because New Jersey is loosing Deron Williams and in return is getting an injury prone Jameer Nelson. I think though over all, that this trade would be perfect for both teams, Orlando would be getting younger with there three additions.

Although to virtually match the salary New Jersey would have to add Krish Humphries, and orlando could throw in a 2012 or future 2nd round pick. I did this trade and included Harper from New Jersey, the salaries are around $1 million apart, I did this trade at the espn trade machine and it was successful.

Though Orlando had minus 2 wins, and New Jersey had +4 wins, so overall a bad deal for the Magic, but it would be nice if New Jersey added a 2012 1st round pick to make it all even out.

Although Dwight is staying now it's moot but still. Why the hell would either team do that? The Nets can keep all their players and add Dwight for essentially nothing without having to take on Richardson's deal. And why would Orlando want to rent Deron Williams for three months? He definitely wouldn't be resigning with them.

Why would the Nets HAVE to trade Deron Williams? If they were getting Dwight both of them will be in Brooklyn for years. And if they aren't, and Deron is headed to Dallas, why trade him and assume salaries instead of making cap space?

Losing Dwight for nothing would really suck for the Magic. They seriously should consider landing next best big man in Bosh through sign-and-trade. This thought wouldn't stop lingering in my head after tonight's game.

I guess thats it. Dwight Howard decided to stay in Orlando. Is this a player option or a team option?

If it is player option, then Orlando need to brace themselves coz this looks like a "Lebron-James-Decision". After the contract for 1 year, the player has the option to leave.

If it is a team option, then Orlando can still have the authority to either trade Dwight after the 1 year extension.

For me, its more like the former than the latter. The Press Conference didnt mention that earlier.

Nop, he had the option to be a free agent this season. Now that he opt at the end of 2012-13 season(as he signed in 2007?) he will be a free agent (I dont know if restricted or no-restricted) and if he doesn't sign another contract (he'll have this season and all 2012-13 season to sign it), the apocalypse will be in the Magic once again.

He will be a non-restricted FA after next season. Restricted FA only applies to rookies at the end of their rookie contracts.
