Then use Howard's Bird Rights to rejoin. It's possible if salary cap wise trust me I read it in the articles.
I'll link if I have time :D

Not according to cap guru Larry Coon:

30. Can a team with cap room sign all the free agents it wants (up to the salary cap) and THEN re-sign its own free agents using the Bird exception?

A team's ability to do this is very limited. The team's free agents continue to count against their team salary (against the salary cap). This charge is called the "free agent amount." There may not be enough money available under the cap to sign another team's free agent, because the team's own free agents are taking up all their cap room.

32. Why do free agents continue to count against a team's cap?

It closes another loophole. Teams otherwise would be able to sign other teams' free agents using their cap room, and then turn their attention to their own free agents using the Bird exceptions. This rule restricts their ability to do that. It doesn't close this loophole completely -- for example, in 2005 Michael Redd's free agent amount was $6 million, even though the Bucks intended to re-sign him for the maximum salary. By waiting to sign Redd last, the Bucks were able to take advantage of the difference by signing Bobby Simmons. Had they signed Redd first, they would have had no cap room to sign Simmons.

33. When do free agents stop counting against the team's cap?

When any one of the following three things happen:

The player signs a new contract with the same team. When this happens, the player's effect on his team's team salary is based on his new salary.

The player signs with a different team. As soon as this happens, the player becomes the new team's problem, and his salary no longer counts against his old team.

The team renounces the player.

In other words, Dwight Howard still continues to count against the cap for 150% of his previous contract (according to the table under question 31 in the FAQ) unless he's renounced to make room for Deron Williams (and looking at their projected salaries, they'd probably still be slightly over the cap). And if Howard is renounced, they can't use the Bird Exception to re-sign him.

The Mavs and Nets can still sign Dwight and Deron if they renounce their own upcoming free agents with Bird Rights.
The Magic can't. If they renounce Dwight in order to sign Deron then the Magic will also lose Dwight's Bird Rights and since signing Deron will make them have them over the salary cap Dwight can't sign with the Magic unless it's the MLE which I doubt Dwight will take when there are other teams that can offer him bigger money with better teammates like the Mavs or Lakers.

So yeah, no clapping for joy. Until Diwght signs an extension or other teams are willing to take your bad contracts in a trade for another star player, just give it up Magic fans for Dwight coming back.

Oh that's great but would it be still enough? they have long term large contracts with Dirk Nowitzki Shawn Marion and Brendan Haywood.

Lakers will be in deep trouble acquiring the both of them, only Andrew Bynum has a significant expiring contract of 15+ Million :P
Plus Odom's trade exception

So this means it's Dallas :D . Unless other teams would accept a trade for a "Rent-a-Player".

BTW I already gave up long time ago :D look at my previous posts. I said its either Lakers or Mavs

Lakers will only need either Dwight to team-up with The G.O.A.T. aka Kobe. Lakers don't need both of them, Deron and Dwight.

Deron said he would sign 90% with Nets, if the Nets could a BIG NAME to play with him.
In short... NO
Magic wouldn't accept garbage offers from Nets, especially their main piece is Injured.
I found some articles that Magic organization would rather get Veterans instead of Draft picks and rebuild.
Magic's owner is 85 yrs old so what do you expect? May be he wants to see his team win a Championship be fore he dies.

If Dwight joins the Lakers then Deron would head to Dallas or the other way around. So they won't be playing together after all :(

He isn't too stupid to accept significant lesser contract as well, especially at the peak of his popularity.

Why are you shifting to Team franchise contracts? We are talking about endorsements right? not Team franchise contracts
If you are concerned about Team contracts, there is no discussion that Dwight would get a maximum deal anywhere unless he teams up with Deron in Lakers or Mavs or another contending team.
You think Dwight would receive an Adidas 250 Million endorsement or a lil closer than that if he teams up with DROSE?

And as one high-ranking sneaker executive says, “Adidas simply cannot have its two signature players on the same team in the same market. … Derrick is the face of that market, owns that market, and Adidas can’t possibly have maximum bang for its buck with Dwight there.

“It serves Adidas no purpose. They need them as rivals in competing markets.”

Howard knows this, too. He has an Adidas renewal on deck in the next year, and Los Angeles and Brooklyn guarantee him maximum money.

And Wade is not stupid, he chose to decline renewing Converse contract, and sign with Jordan Brand because of bigger contract.

No.
The main topic regarding the Dwight situation I was/am talking about his desire to have better teammates instead of that D-League team currently called the Orlando Magic. If Dwight can team-up with Derrick Rose in Chicago, I think he'll accept it even at the loss of a stupid shoe contract.
Any other topics like shoe contracts or salary that come up are still related to Dwight's wishes of having a better team.

They need them as rivals in competing markets."

LOL at this. Srsly? You consider the words of a sneaker executive as an argument that Dwight will have no way in hell accept going to Chicago?

Main Bounce wrote:And Wade is not stupid, he chose to decline renewing Converse contract, and sign with Jordan Brand because of bigger contract.

Both Converse and the Jordan Brand are under Nike. It's not like Wade chose to leave Converse, he merely got 'promoted'.

BTW Lebron's deal hasn't expired yet before teaming up with Bosh and Wade. And even though Jordan Brand is affiliated with Nike, Micheal Jordan(I have my own Deep Pocket) still has an individual option or freedom whether to give a bigger deal to his superstar. So that separates Wade and James. And I don't think Bosh would contest to have better deals than James, unlike Dwight Howard since he is the Best Center active in the NBA. So, in short the 3 of them didn't lose a significant amount of money unlike Dwight Howard would.

250 Million Rose Deal? I thought there was RECESSION?

So what is the reason your telling me that Dwight wont join Chicago then?
Obviously Chicago is a top contending team. Not dissing any Mavericks, Lakers or Nets fans here , but don't you think the best option
for Dwight is teaming up with the youngest MVP ever? I think this is better long term goal than teaming with Kobe or Dirk. Bulls also have good package for Dwight, Noah Boozer or Deng. Why is it the Bulls not on Dwight's list then?

shadowgrin wrote:LOL at this. Srsly? You consider the words of a sneaker executive as an argument that Dwight will have no way in hell accept going to Chicago?

NO, I consider MONEY. Like every each and one of us do :cheeky:

You also mentioned that Dwight would join Chicago at a loss of a stupid shoe contract. REALLY? STUPID SHOE CONTRACT = Lifetime MultiMILLION Deal.
BTW the Rose Adidas deal is more than 250% than his NBA contract.
You would be a hypocrite if you say wouldn't consider that amount of money, especially this hard times of RECESSION.

Dwight Howard is going to make millions regardless of where he signs. If money were his chief concern, he'd stay in Orlando.

Well GOOD POINT. But MONEY plus more chances of winning, wouldn't that be better?
If he stay with Orlando he would make a little extra Millions but not really that significant compared to endorsement deals.
Derrick Rose deals
From Chicago Contract = 94 Million
From Adidas Endoresement= 250 Million
See the Difference?
So he'd rather choose other contending teams(except Bulls), sacrificing little Millions, but still harvesting a HUGE CHUNK amount of Endorsement money.

Someone certainly isn't reading or understands my posts. I have never said or implied that Dwight won't join the Bulls, my opinion on that is the complete opposite (the possibility of it).

NO, I consider MONEY. Like every each and one of us do :cheeky:

Chicago is considered as a big market. Dwight will find other ways to make his millions from the possible lesser deal from Adidas or even signing with Nike instead of a possible lower offer from Adidas.

Why is it the Bulls not on Dwight's list then?

I maybe wrong but the Bulls can't sign Dwight when he becomes a FA. The only way the Bulls can get him is through a trade. And that is a possibility. Just because Bulls are not on his list doesn't mean he's not open to going there. Just look at Chris Paul. Clippers weren't on his initial list and yet he ended there.

You also mentioned that Dwight would join Chicago at a loss of a stupid shoe contract. REALLY? STUPID SHOE CONTRACT = Lifetime MultiMILLION Deal.

Stupid in context of the earning power of multimillionaire basketball players and not in context of the averaging working Joe.
It's not a lifetime deal. It's only for 10 years. It's called a lifetime deal because it lasts for the (possible) entirety of his career as an NBA player and not the time that he will be continuing to breath oxygen.
I also doubt Dwight will get a deal with the same number of years because of his age, possibly 5-6 years if he stays with Adidas.

Yeah Dwight wont get the a same 10 year length deal with Adidas, however he would try his best to get a closer to that deal.
But I don't think Nike and Dwight had reached a future deal close to Howard's expectations. Really still odd Nike decisions

Remember 2003, when Kobe, already 3-time NBA Champion, transfer to Nike from Adidas? And LeBron doesn't have a NBA team yet.
Kobe deal = under 40 Million
LeBron deal = over 80 Million

But there must be a reason why Dwight didn't put Bulls on the his list. I don't think he would question the talent of the Bulls as a contender, especially he could have a younger partner PG who could carry a team as D-Will could and as you said it is a BIG market team as well.

Oh sorry my bad... :( this was a long time ago. Here are the exact details:

Kobe, 3-time NBA Champ, multi All-Star appearance, etc... = $ 41 Million, 5 years
LeBron, top draftee prospect, no NBA team yet = my bad again it's not $ 80 Million it is $ 93 Million, 7 years :D

You do remember that LeBron was the most hyped prospect? He was followed by media (mostly ESPN) even during his 2nd year in HS. And Kobe wasn't as big then as he is now. He was still tasting Shaq's ass during that time.

There may be some credibility to the suggestion that Howard isn't that interested in going to Chicago because of his adidas deal and the possibility of earning more when he's not playing on the same team as the company's other marquee NBA player. Of course, as T-Mac put it:

“You’re going to have other endorsements because you’re playing in a big-ass city like Chicago, and because you’re [bleeping] Dwight Howard,” McGrady said.

Right now, it seems nothing will be happening until the deadline. The Magic are 4-2 and the season is young, there's time to try and make a move (easier said than done) or at least convince Howard to opt in to his final year or if they can really sell him on it, sign an extension. I'd suggest Howard will be a professional and give it his all while he's still with the Magic - his scoring is down a bit through the first six games but it's pretty much business as usual elsewhere across the board - but probably hasn't given up on the idea of leaving and the situation will continue to hang over the team until they can sell him on signing an extension or find a taker around the deadline.

The All-Star Weekend being in Orlando this year may also add some incentive to hold onto him as long as they can. The trade deadline supposedly has been pushed back to March in light of the lockout and late tipoff, so they'll have a little extra time after All-Star Weekend to bring about a resolution to the situation and make a deal if it comes to that.
