Hi Benji,
I'm a girl in one of the photos you posted. I just wanted to clarify that my "job" is actually an internship. In reality, I have two internships with different companies, in addition to being a full time graduate student. The office that you refer to is a mail room, which is definitely an upgrade from my cubicle. Unfortunately, a compensation increase didn't come with the move. My frustration's developed after months of applying for paid, benefits eligible jobs.
I understand that this thread is meant as a space to vent, and that's fine. But I just wanted to take a moment to explain my situation, as it's not clear in my post, and is being misconstrued. I know that we aren't all going to agree, and I'm okay with that. But I certainly don't want anyone to think that I'm faking my situation, as I'm pretty open about who I am. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear.

WTF! Is this for real?
Wed Nov 23, 2011 2:18 pm
I'm sure it's real, but once the "girl flare" goes up and 13-year old filipinos are spamming her she'll probably regret "clarifying" her situation to an irrelevant moron like me.

In other words, you aren't jobless. Internships are deferring compensation in hopes of gaining relevant experience in a field.
Take solace in that at least you aren't attending fashion school whining about how you can't afford $2000 a month in clothing because "unqualified" rich girls like the former Editor in Chief stole your dream job. "Occupying Wall Street" isn't going to do anything for you either but it's probably cathartic anyway to think you can somehow be saved by handing over the last vestiges of power to the very thing that's screwing everyone on purpose for its own gain. Plus, look at all the attention you're getting, social media works!
In these forums in particular, they're groups of conservatives
lol nope.
You weren't being attacked here, you were being mocked like the rest of the morons of the "We are the 99%" temper tantrum.
After a half a year of applying, I've never even gotten a response to a resume. No matter how creative, no matter how boring, no matter how persistent.
Thing is, I freaking want to work.
months of applying for paid, benefits eligible jobs.
Maybe you should set your bar lower?

This can't be real.
It... it just can't be.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 3:27 pm
Why wouldn't it be? Track backs are easy to follow, dotorg used to get linked to from some strange places. And you can confirm it, as I did, by checking her Google Plus:
So I tracked the threads. My photo has even moved so far as to appear on an NBA forum. And of course, I'm being attacked.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 3:41 pm
Wow. Why the hell would she bother defending herself on a basketball video game forum? I mean, i'm in favour of occupy wall street, if anything. But I don't really see what that achieves.
Which picture is she?
Wed Nov 23, 2011 3:44 pm
The one that ends with "99%, y'all."
I mean, i'm in favour of occupy wall street
Of course you are.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 3:51 pm
I am just going to put my two cents in just so she can feel popular with her blog.
Conservative forum my ass.I can't speak for the others here but i am in no way in any shape or form a conservative.
If you are desperate for a job then go to a temp agency.
I hate the fact that people think that there is no help out there.
Oh and to state that "people standing at a camera with a piece of paper describing themselves as part of the 99%." is "iconic" is really really dumb. The picture of "Tank Man" who stood in front of a military tank in China is iconic. The picture of Martin Luther King on the balcony after he got assassinated is iconic. Those pictures are one of a kind.Pictures that mean something, even to this day.Pictures with a sheet of paper in front of/next to/behind your face is nothing but a fad.
Good luck finding a job Ms.McKinney.And next time you should give a big Good luck to the people who don't have a nice apartment, a schmancy computer, and nice things.Who spend hours in line at job sites just so they can have a part-time job that pays a measly hourly wage.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 3:57 pm
Our only regular "conservative" got banned a while back. And he was more religious conspiracy nut than a standard conservative.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 3:58 pm
The one that ends with "99%, y'all."
Oh god, that's the worst one, making the rest of the 99% look bad.
Clearly just looking to blame an external source for her own shortcomings/failure.Of course you are.
Oh shut the fuck up.

I'm appalled at such an insinuation!
I'm so mad right now at that accusation that I need to occupy something!
benji is such a ladies man.

Isn't that what 99% of them do?

No, the worst one is the one higher up, the second one I posted with the pink writing taken in a library or something.
making the rest of the 99% look bad.
They don't really need any help with that.
Nick wrote:Oh shut the fuck up.
What? You're saying you don't latch onto emotionally driven trends filled with ignorance? How if we just wish and hope enough we'll have paradise?
What about our "massive energy shift" in 2012? Or how our thought vibrations can bring us personal success?
Wed Nov 23, 2011 4:25 pm
I have zero desire to engage with you benji. Not only is it like talking to a brick wall, it's clear you're more interested in having fun with making creative & argumentative type of posts that disrespect people more than they respectfully challenge, than you are of actually being interested to see other people's perspectives and learn what makes people tick.
You're a dick mate, but dammit i respect you.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 4:48 pm
Yeah, because you've ever bothered to even halfway explain your "perspective."
Shit, you couldn't explain what the fuck you were talking about regarding vibrations NOR knew where it even came from. You told me to do the work, I did, found out it was a bunch of 1920's era gibberish and you ran away upset because your "perspective" on this was exposed for the laughable bullshit it is.
And I doubt you could even rationally explain why you "favor Occupy Wall Street" so instead you'll just whine about me being mean instead of manning the fuck up and defending your absurd and nonsensical positions.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 5:15 pm
Cool ben.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 5:18 pm
See, yep, yet again. Barn-Z is asked to explain, or try and defend, any of his wild claims and he pulls the "cool ben"/"don't care what you think"/"that's just what i feel/believe" and runs away.
Yet he's the one demanding I should want to see others "perspectives" and learn "how people tick."
And yet I'm the dick.

Who are you talking to?
Mate, i'm just pointing out a weakness in your attitude in general. You always say there's value in being challenged, right? Well then you will see the value in this claim: You don't demonstrate any respect or humility towards others. Some people don't know how to express love and respect and that apples to you 100%. And you know it's true otherwise you wouldn't be so intent on shooting me down right now. And don't give me this "ohhh listen to the hippy talk about lovey dovey new age bullshit" because that's not the case at all. I'm just referring to basic human qualities. You are trying to hide behind this truth by saying i'm not "manning up" and that i'm "running away". But to me, it's really not important.
I'm sorry i'm not setting you up with my set of perspectives for you to have a field day ripping apart. If i know your internet self, and i think i do, it's that nobody will ever change your opinion on something. You will argue to the very death, no matter who you shit on in the process, and you will enjoy typing out every single word. Why should i bother if i already know the end result? If you showed an ounce of respect, and a willingness to listen and some intent on actually TRYING to see the other person's point view, i will discuss with you until the cows come home. (And i'm not talking specifically about this thread, i'm talking about your entire NLSC douchey history). I don't mind whether you agree with me or not, but to me the positive about discussion is that you expand your horizon of understanding. I don't get that in arguing with you.
Now you're going to dissect everything i just said in a million separate quotes and cleverly twist it all. Have fun.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 6:05 pm
No, I won't. Because I know you can't and won't explain or defend any of your positions.
But this:
And don't give me this "ohhh listen to the hippy talk about lovey dovey new age bullshit" because that's not the case at all.
Some people don't know how to express love and respect and that apples to you 100%.

Wed Nov 23, 2011 6:24 pm
Here's the best part actually.
a willingness to listen and some intent on actually TRYING to see the other person's point view
Except I already know their point of view, I'm sure I've spent a magnitude far more time than you have in listening to them and their incoherent babbling. (Just like the fact I've spent more than 5 minutes listening about exactly what quantum physics is.) They're upset that because they did nothing of any value they haven't instantly become part of the elite, acquired their dreams and been set for life, and now they want the "wreckers" to be "dealt with" in their name by the true villains. It's simple envy and rage. They see that other people are accomplished, they have no clue how to become that and they have no understanding of history or economics so they lash out in anger demanding thugs to bring others down to their level and absolve them of responsibility. They blame it on "promises" they were told because they're morons who believe anything anyone tells them apparently.
The entire "we are the 99%" meme is just like the "we are the ones we are waiting for" one they attached to a few years ago before reality smacked them in the face. It's complete self-centered hubris, a notion that they are owed something by simply existing, that they should be given what they want and if others have it then it should be taken from them.
It's the only explanations that make sense. They aren't raging at the villains who "did this" to them or their own personal stupidity. They're raging at the ones the villains told them to rage at, and they're doing it by like...well, demanding awareness! They don't even know what they want, or how to get to it, except that if they just emote about it then things will change.
Which is exactly new age postmodern gibberish.
Even Marxist analytics can figure this out:
http://volokh.com/2011/10/31/the-fragme ... -mobility/(To be fair, New Class is one of those times where even the oft broken clock of Marxist-based analysis can figure out the obvious. And either Michaels or Bakunin got there first. And Hayek got there as well for the last part of the triangle. )
Now, how about you show an ounce of respect, a willingness to listen and actually try to see this person's point of view and perspective:

We're a conservative forum? News to me.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 6:35 pm
You're using the wrong definition of conservative probably. What she means is "anyone who disagrees with me" because there are only two exact and completely uniform political ideologies and they just happen to line up perfectly with the Democratic and Republican Parties.
Wed Nov 23, 2011 6:39 pm

That looks like you're asking Andrew.
