I didn't reply or vote yet since it's a non-issue for me. I live in an area of barely any cell service, and when I do get it, it's not that fancy shmancy 3G or 4G.

Pretty much everyone under 30 is living in the text generation. At this point the average teenager sends more than a 100 damned texts a day. Last year, an astounding 6.1 trillion text messages were sent worldwide. Yes, we said trillion, with a "T." Now think about the sheer repetition of the thumb motions a person makes while texting on a number pad phone -- the average 16-year-old can probably send a text in her sleep.

Jeez...I do text, but I don't send anywhere near 100 per month, let alone per day.

I voted for the creator. It's pretty obvious in my mind. If the creator produces a shit game it's not going to be successful, if it's good, then it's more successful. Sure, the community is significant, no doubt about it. But c'mon. It's all in the hands of the creator.

Minecraft is a pretty unique situation, since it's so dependent on its users. But i would attest that minecraft is almost less of a game and more of a software. Whatever you call it though, if it had not been created in the first place then it can't be successful.

I'm going to say the creators as well. Significant as a video game community is, it's on the developers to put in the hours, utilise the tech available to them, etc. If the developers are putting out a product that the consumers want or establish brand recognition, there will be an online community there for it. However, I also think it's on the developers to keep tabs on those communities and make the best possible use for them. Even though it doesn't always go smoothly or garner the desired results on either side, I think the increased interaction between developers and their customers through online communities is one of the best things to happen with video game development.

If you enjoy discussion and debate, sure it is. As already mentioned, that's the whole point of online discussion.

Having said that, if you're making too big an emotional investment in defending your opinion online then you might have a problem because in the long run, it's not a hill worth dying for. With all the trolls and..."interesting" people out there, it's important to be able to recognise when it's no longer a quality discussion and either back away or go tongue-in-cheek. It's fine to get involved in a discussion and argue a point of view passionately; just don't treat it like a life or death matter and don't feed the trolls.
