AlphaSports' My Player blog - Bud the Bull

Postby Alphasim on Sat Oct 08, 2011 4:28 pm

Hey all. I posted about my NBA 2K11 My Player, Rick Daniel here before. Now, with 2K12 out, I've gone away from my two-year star (2K10 and 2K11) Rick Daniel to his bigger brother, Bud Daniel. While Rick was a 6'2" point guard, Bud is a 6'9" power forward. He got drafted by the Knicks, and left them after three years for the Bulls.

#35 Rick Daniel - PF
Chicago Bull
- Playing 5 minute quarters -

I'm not going to repost my entire blog posts here, but I'll pop in with highlights. If you want to read his entire story (along with Rick Daniel's total four and a half years over two games), please stop by my NBA 2K My Player blog, AlphaSports

The latest news is best summed up with a picture.

This was only the half of it. Read it all here.

Enjoy everyone. I'll be back as highlights occur.

I think that's a good deal. So you can have more playing time.

EDIT: Read the article. All I can is...

Yeah, everybody has that problem with those trades. In mine, I'm on the Bucks, and our starting five is me, DJ Augustin, Quentin Richardson, Lamar Odom and Tyrus Thomas.

You're pretty far along in the season. Do you play all the games or just the key ones?

My first thought when I saw the mid-season trade list was, "these teams trade like it's a video game."

As for which games I'm playing, it's a little of both. I'll play the next key game, and if I see a game between that game and the next key game that I want to participate in I'll play the games one by one to get to it. The key game option really speeds up the season, since after only about eight hours of play I'm on game 69 of my first season. I'm now almost half wondering how many full careers I can get in before 2K13 comes out. I may have to slow down to get my blog back on track and not just end up posting quarterly or mid-season wrap ups. I'm not a fan of this year's replay mode for getting my pictures though, especially using Gametrack.

I'm in the playoffs now as the starting power forward. We swept the Bucks but are facing a stiff challenge from the Heat.

I'm not playing bad (most of the time), but I did cost us game three. I recorded it and uploaded it in the following blog post.

Read "Game Three - In Action"

I really screwed up the last two plays of the game. I'm linking my blog instead of YouTube because I goofed on the video and the fix will be posted on the blog when it's up. I can edit this with the proper YouTube link when it's done as well, if people would prefer.

(edit: the video has been fixed, and can be found here)

My team has reached the NBA Finals! They almost cruised in without me, which is terrible for my morale.

Image
I'm shooting terrible and my defense has gone south. I was so bad I was benched the entire fourth quarter of game seven against the Celtics in the Conference Finals.

How the hell did that team make the Finals? Especially with you sitting out the 4th quarter of the decisive game.

We made the Finals, we went up 3-0 in the Finals.... we blew our lead and lost the Finals.

Image
I struggled for five of the games before coming around in games six and seven. In game seven I through in 27 points but the Rockets guards were shooting the lights out from deep and couldn't miss. In game six we had a chance to win but Billups threw the ball straight to Baron Davis (not on our team, obviously) to cost us the game. My team got me here so I guess they figured they could blow it, too. I was livid as the games fell apart on plays I didn't have a part in. "No, Chauncey, don't shoot a fall away three again!" "Someone get a hand in Baron's face!" "Who's freaking man was that?!" That sort of thing.

I don't know how we got this far, but I'm almost happy we lost. If this sloppy crew could roll into the Finals and win it I was going to be disappointed in this year's game. I'm averaging a B+ for my team grade, with a few A+'s. Even in my bad games I don't usually fall below B.

3-0!? And lost? That sucks. I would weep a little.lol. I mean I think you are the only one who wouldn't happy if you win.:))

After getting the itch to recreate my star from the last two NBA 2Ks, point guard Rick Daniel (Bud's littler brother), I found that I flowed right back into the role. I've put a poll up on the site asking who I should focus on in the future, Rick, Bud or both.

Hilariously, they really look a like but Bud loos a lot younger.:D but then, how about you create Rick Daniel and put him into Pacers, or a team where you left him on 2k11 and start a mp again.:D Or you can do it on 2013.:D

I was thinking of putting Rick on the Hawks (where he left off last year) using Create a Legend. How about that?

It would be really cool if it were possible to modify draft classes in My Player (they have those, right? Never made it past season 1 except for in 2K10 where I was stuck in D-League forever despite being the GOAT.

If you've never made it out of season 1 or the D-League, this year's version is for you. There's no D-League and you can breeze through the seasons by playing just the key games.

As for draft classes, I wish there was a draft class. There's only three or so active rookies in My Player (I don't know what happens to the ones you played against in the Rookie Showcase), so no rookie/sophomore game and an almost guaranteed Rookie of the Year.

So in season 2, no new rookies are infused into the game? The league just ages? That's lame.

No, there's random rookies in season two - just not season one.

That really sucks. Hope Lockout is gone so we can have rookies. I think when I make my player, I'll just skip season 1 and play key games only.

I've arrived - I've got my own commercial. lol

Nice.

Bud's also continuing to play on while the poll on the blog helps decide who the blog should focus on.

My jumpshot is getting much better, but our defense has a small hitch.

Image
Our guards don't cover shooters. This killed us in the finals and it could kill us again.

I just ran an hour and nineteen minute Livestream of Bud Daniel, and you can find the replay here. I played terrible and it's there for all to see. I posted the start on my Twitter account (@alphasim), and will do so again if I do another.

It would appear that the result to the poll for who AlphaSports should cover is: nobody really cares. I received four votes on the blog for Rick and Bud to split time and one for just Bud. Here I received but one vote, and it for the two to split time on the blog.

As it stands I'm on a roll with Bud, so I'm going to see where he goes this season before checking back in with Rick. Thanks for the input.

Here's the roster:

PG: Chauncey Billups
SG: J.R. Smith
SF: Paul Pierce
PF: Bud Daniel (me)
C: Al Horford
Bench: Jamal Crawford, David West, Glen Davis, Carl Landry, Jordan Crawford, D. Gadson (rookie), T. Bonner (rookie)

As a side note, I don't like sharing the court with Big Baby Davis. Why? Because he and I always seem to want to be at the same place at the same time. Physics says that's a no-no.
