CUTSCENES........CUTSCENES

Postby WalleO on Fri May 14, 2004 6:09 am

Cutscenes are very important to the feel and atmostphere of the game if you ask me. there isnt a time you see a player at the freethrow line making or bricking a shot not giving daps and colliding fist with a team player. its just the culture of the game. you see every time. also, when a player gets an assist and makes the bucket, you see the player point out his finger as if he's saying " thanks men, you got me that bucket" things like thing which was present in live 2001 adds soo much more to the feel of the game in my book and make it that much real. for player who dont want to see the cutscene, EA can just add an option to toggle it off or reduce it. i sure hope EA adds cutscences from within the game this year and not the silly ones from 2003 where they more more comedy than real. Anyone else feels this way?

yes... i want the cutscenes back... I have a feeling they will because of their new graphics engine.

Cutscenes are very important to me. They let you have a feel for the game.

Argueing with the Ref, Celbrating, stare downs, everthing.

I also hope they had crowd cutscenes and before and after game cutscenes

I usually get tired of the cutscenes after a while, but I agree that they help create the atmosphere. This was painfully apparent in NBA Live 2003, when (in my opinion) the "courtside comedy" cutscenes kind of ruined the atmosphere. NBA Live 2004's cutscenes are much, much better - NBA Live 2004 is far and away my favourite of the series, and the edition that I've enjoyed the most so far.

a cut scene i'd like to see, is at halftime or full time with marv and mike talking about the highlights and stuff of the game..
that would be sweet.

Yea. The ones from 2003 became very old and blaise after some time.
The main reason for that was probeblly that they were happening quite often and that they were to repedative.
There were only a few to play. And they were played so often that they got dull quickly.
To avoid it it would only be a matter of impleanting more of them. Many more...
If they can do that it would be great and ad some nice atmosphere to the game

Cutscenes such as trainingcamp, when you hire/fire a player, he walks in/out of the locker room.

When your player retires, another guy will be standing there waving him goodbye.

When you make team purchases, you either see a coach working with the players or you see the coach signing some papers, probably divorce papers the wife asked for...because he's too into his job. Oh wait, I control that raggidy 3D coach.

Got carried away there, but those are the ones that come to mind first.

Sorry, I was talking about the 2003 cut-scenes...

There's one with a player gets up and takes the coaches seat, and then the coach sitts down... Funny the first two times.
There's one with two players being filmed and one of them starts shaking the camera. The other one laughes his arse of... Not realy funny.
Those were the kind of cutscenes in 2003.

2004 has nice cutscenes I think. If they can be classefied as that.
It had those rather cool ones as Psycho Jackal descrived.

the cutscenes i was refering to for live 2005 are the ones that will never get old. the ones that always happen. example, like pointing your finger to tony parker while running back the court to show appreciate for the assist he just gave you (duncan). or like i said earlier, making a free throw and colliding/shaking hands with team mates after the bucket. these happen all the time and they should never get old cuase that exactly what happens. ofcourse these cutscence will only come up once in a while.

Yeah. Every dead ball there was a cutscene. We need less cutscenes, but more variety. It's not like Duncan is gonna argue with the ref every time he commits a foul.

Aside from the ones already mentioned...

The camera focusing on the team huddle during a timeout, players walking off the court at halftime or at the end of the game, and waiting for the ref to review a shot at the buzzer.

My favourite examples of far too generic courtside comedy cutscenes from Live 2003 include Brendan Haywood chewing out MJ for not paying attention during a timeout, and Efthimos Rentzias signing an autograph at halftime.

I like the idea someone had of showing like a virtual Marv and Mike during halftime.

One thing I think they should do involving cutscenes, is show more of them during the end of the season/playoffs. Maybe they could have like a segment of the GM's desk offering generic analyses of the teams in the playoffs, their strengths/weaknesses, lol I don't know.

I just think that Live should do more to create a playoff atmosphere come May/June. As it is now, all we have is a cutscene at the end of the game, and player introductions at the beginning of the game.

You guys are missing the point of this thread completely. as far as i can tell, 2004 DOES NOT have any cutscence. at least the ones im refering to. im not talking about cutscences during a timeout or during training camp or stuff like that. im taking about cutscence from within when the game is still playing. the only close one i can think of in 2004 is when a player is hurt and is escorted to the bench. im talking of the cutscence like the ones in 2001 or espn basketball. the ones the zoom in on a player briefly or a set of players on the field briefly after something different or special happens to capture the facial and bodily emotions. this happens for like 1-2 sec and then it returns back to the game. the last time EA did this was in 2001. go back and play that game and you'll see what im talking about.

I never liked those cutscenes in the middle of a game, I like the ones at dead balls. The kind of cut scenes I want are the ones with the players in their suits in dynasty mode (one of my favourite additions this year), time-out huddles, a digital shot of marv or mike after quarters, fist taps between free throws.

I think they should not have cut scenes...and only have cut scenes for introduction of players...I want the whole introduction of players btw...that would be awesome...not just "Michael Jordan"
But..."From North..................CAROLINA...A GUARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...." you get the idea - -;;

NBA live 2004 cutscenes sucked period compared to any game. 2003 was the first b-ball game to have A class cutscenes. To me 2004 cutscenes were too short and there were not enough, actually those aren't even called cutscenes because the definition of a cutscene is a scene that cuts from a play.

NBA Live 2003's cutscenes were just too goofy in my opinion. I felt they were too cartoonish, too silly. They took away from the atmosphere, and had little to do with the play.

I don't think we're missing the point of the thread. I'm sure most people would like to see cutscenes such as those, in addition to players being helped to the bench, leaving the court at the end of the game, and so on.
