I voted for January tipoff.I think right now we can just guess when will it start.Better start in February than dont start at all.

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. I thought the point that he was getting at was that to everyone else, millionaires and billionaires squabbling over money doesn't look good, a fair enough assessment.

Andrew wrote:They currently get 58% of BRI. Why would they want to give up salary to enrich their opposition? 53% is their CONCESSION to the horrible plight of the owners who just can't find any self-restraint in overpaying everyone in sight.

I'm aware of that. Still, I'd think in principle a 50-50 split is the fairest deal for both sides (concessions from previous agreements aside), certainly fairer than the owners were pushing for which I believe would've given players less than 50%.

It's pretty much guaranteed at this point games will be cut. I wanted to see the Bulls and Mavs play in the opening game...

I voted for no season. The players want the owners to be insane and overpay them. The owners want the players to ask for less money from the start. Wont fucking happen easily. Too bad too cuz the season last year was one of the most entertaining since ive began following basketball (actually that post lockout 99 season).

Can we add to the CBA: anyone that has insane contracts that blows it all and goes bankrupt becomes the team's indentured servant? Antoine Walker could shoot 4's all he wanted in the front office!

Disagree, I thought 2007 or whatever year it was when you had teams having to win 50 games to even make the playoffs out West (I think Warriors won like 46 or 48 & still missed that year) was a lot more enthralling season.

I felt some things that happened really took the focus off basketball, like the season long Melo drama for example. Plus the pending lockout was always in the back of everybody's mind.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good season, but I wouldn't call the most entertaining.

Oz did say it was one of the most entertaining, not the most entertaining. ;)

Also, i didnt have cable in college so it was harder for me to be entertained by the games. Pretty much saw box scores and Playoffs.

Before the season ended and when the lockout was just a rumor I predicted that there will be a lockout, but the season would start back up in Febuary. But im getting a feeling that the 2011-12 season will be canceled..

Supposedly tomorrow is either going to bring a deal or the announcement of the first cancellation of regular season games. I have a feeling it's going to be the latter, but at least they've been talking through the weekend.

Was very surprised that both sides talked on Sunday and have also scheduled talks for Monday. I still hope the best but expect the worst. What makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable is that some players might not see the urgency of reaching a deal better sooner than later. Well maybe it's just a part of their negotiating strategy...

If the player's union is acting for the best of the majority then they'll take a near 50/50 split & make sure league doesn't cut MLE, contract lengths etc

And they'll take a deal before the one on the table is any worse, if we're to assume the owners have already won.

Starting on time is now officially out of the question. Still picking a January tipoff at the earliest.

That's fine with me. The NBA regular season is too long to begin with. 82 games is ridiculous. Do it like the 1999 season. That was perfect.

I have no problem with 82 game seasons but I'd have to agree that a shorter season does have its merits in some respects.

I like the idea of 58 game season and 5-5-7-7 playoff format. Kind of like ideal dynasty length (Y)

Safe to assume Jeffx is not a fan of the long MLB regular season either?

I'd get along if regular season would be a little bit shorter (maybe around 70 games) but please do not touch the playoffs...

I don't mind the length of the season because of the way it facilitates so many ups and downs. It also gives players more time to recover from injuries and the time missed due to minor injuries is less significant, with more opportunities to see teams at full strength with the best players in the game going head to head.

It also keeps the prices lower for tickets.
